  1. A recent study found the average Australian walks about 900 miles a year.

Another study found Australians drink, on average, 22 gallons of beer a year.

That means, on average, Australians get about 41 miles to the gallon.

    Kind of makes you proud.

    Ross

Thanks to whoever is contributing to my 900 miles :tease:

I think the 22 gallons is a bit light on though lol :bleh: , my calculation comes out to around 150 gallons :beersmile: and the same for mileage :biggrin2:

Makes my economy come out at around 1 mile per gallon :drunk:

  2. Just received our new fuel prices for JulyAt this rate - who can afford it? :ranting2:

Here's our prices for the last 6 months.

    ------------ Feb -- Mar -- Apr -- May -- June -- July

    Unleaded 1.07 -- 1.08 -- 1.13 -- 1.19 -- 1.24 -- 1.51

    Diesel---- 1.12 -- 1.11 -- 1.17 -- 1.31 -- 1.43 -- 1.73

    Kero------ 1.25 -- 1.22 -- 1.28 -- 1.37 -- 1.42 -- 1.70

These are AUD$ prices per litre.

How long before we're paying 2 dollars a litre?

Included in our price is 15% GST and $0.015 Sales Tax per litre.

World prices of crude are now really hitting home! :(

  3. The debate over referee Tony Archer's handling of the State of Origin series took another twist last night when former Queensland great Gorden Tallis declared Archer should be congratulated for taking a stand on the influence of wrestling on the game.

NSW selector Bob Fulton suggested yesterday Archer had clamped down on the play-the-ball in Origin II because referees' boss Robert Finch had taken it upon himself to try to "change the face of Origin".

But former Brisbane second-rower Tallis, who played 17 Origin games, applauded Archer for being prepared to battle against wrestling tactics that were designed to slow the game. NSW lost the second game 30-0 at Suncorp Stadium, after winning a slower opening game 18-10 at ANZ Stadium.

"Queensland deserved to win the second game, and if the third game is refereed the same way and NSW win it, I'll accept they deserved to win it. NSW have got some great players. They have got to go out there and back their skills, and the referee has got to go out there and referee it."

New South Wales captain Danny Buderus says the Blues will remained focused on winning the State of Origin decider, rather than his impending retirement from the sky blue jersey.

Wednesday's decider in Sydney will be Buderus's 15th as Captain, eclipsing Brad Fittler's record.

However the Newcastle hooker says his last game for the Blues will not play on his team's mind.

"Origin's too hard to do it for someone else," he said.

"The only motivation they'll need is for themselves, so that's all I'll be talking to them about."

Buderus says his team plans to keep a close eye on Queensland centre Greg Inglis, after his dominant appearance in game two.

Inglis scored two tries in the match-up at Lang Park and was named man of the match.

Buderus says the Blues will do everything in their power to limit the big centre.

"It's hard to contain someone like that; we've just got to limit [inglis's] opportunities and take away his space," Buderus said. "That's what we've been training for."

The Blues have named St George Illawarra's Ben Hornby as 18th man for the decider, while the Maroons called upon David Shillington as their 18th.

Queensland coach Mal Meninga expects a close encounter in the third and deciding match of the State of Origin rugby league series against NSW on Wednesday, despite his team's record win in game two.

Queensland won the second match by a record-equaling 30-0 in Brisbane to level the series

after New South Wales had won the opening game at Sydney 18-10. The Queensland coach said the outcome of game two could be disregarded and the third match was so close it was «a flip of the coin.

«This could be the best game of the lot,» Meninga said Tuesday.

«It may take a field goal in the 80th minute to win the footy game,» he added. «We'll prepare as if it's going to be a close game. We'll make sure everybody knows their roles and responsibilities. It's a flip of the coin basically, this game.

Queensland will be seeking its 17th State of Origin title but will have to overcome a poor record in Sydney where it has won only one and drawn one of its last 13 matches.

  5. In my experience, as a salesman for Shakespeare (A few moons ago) we had them coupled with telescopics as a combo that one could put in his suitcase whilst travelling on a business trip or the like. Similarly, the travelling salesman (Sales Rep) could keep one on the back seat of the car to use when passing by a suitable location. Never was considered something for the serious sports fisherperson but more-so a typical American gadget that was more for convenience than purpose. Not to crazy an idea to keep one in the car for when the opportunity arises to wet a line in the middle of no where. Quite affordably priced as well.

Reel capacity is the only downfall, but who cares if you have a chance at a few moments of pleasure when you would not have had the opportunity otherwise. Unless you keep a fully rigged spinstick on your roof racks permanently.

  6. A slight lapse in concentration while bleeding the fish saw me nastily cut.

I spent the rest of the afternoon in hospital and needed 9 stitches.

My tendons were luckily not damaged and my nerves intact which meant i did not need major surgery.

It did however rupture one of the arteries in the finger.

My point is to all that it can happen to the best of us.

I'm sure we have all had close calls so take care and think for that extra second,

regardless of how exciting the situation may be...

Safe and enjoyable fishing to all.

Good advice, I'm sure that most of us become so engrossed in the excitement of the moment that we drop our "guards" for short periods of time, not thinking too much about hooks flying around, gill rakers, knives or the like.

Hopefully you will recover 100% and soon be back out fishing again.

Nice fin, eases the pain a bit.

  7. A teacher is explaining biology to her 4th grade students.

'Human beings are the only animals that stutter', she says.

A little girl raises her hand 'I had a kitty-cat who stuttered', she volunteered.

The teacher, knowing how precious some of these stories could become, asked the girl to describe the incident.

'Well', she began, 'I was in the back yard with my kitty, and the Rottweiler that lives next door got a running start, and before we knew it, he jumped over the fence into our yard!

'That must've been scary', said the teacher. '

It sure was', said the little girl.

'My kitty raised his back, went 'Fffff, Fffff, Fffff'... And before he could say 'f##k', the Rottweiler ate him!

  8. The way they keep getting bigger from left to right, if you'd kept fishing you might have needed to pull out the LBG outfit and a harness. They're some awesome looking fish.

    Cheers, Slinky

Totally agree with Slinky. Those two on the right are god damned stompers.

Is that a standard newspaper they are laying on? It would mean that those last two are around the 50cm mark. Great catch.

Is the second from the right greyer in colour than the rest, or would that just be the angle of the photo?

    Congratulations on some super specimens.

  9. Platypus line has been around long before all these fancy lines that are on the market now.

As a kid, and with mum and dad we used it for many, many years and experienced no specific problems.

I don't use it now, not for any particular reason, only following the trend of all the fancy lines, new technologies, flouro, spider, etc.

Take Ray R's advise and return it to where you purchased it. Alternatively send off a sample to the manufacturer.

I would think there is a simple explanation for the poor quality line you have ended up with - although doesn't say too much for the quality control on the production line.

May have been a Monday production. :tease:

  10. Sounds typical of my standard fishing expedition.

If it was as easy and serene as your last trip, it would not be fishing, nor an adventure.

Congratulations on posting both the good and the bad.

All we need now is the ugly :tease:

  11. No because it is still deemed a landing net which is not illegal. You can use it how you wish. It would only be illegal if they were netting with drift nets, cast nets etc etc

I only ask because I used to do a similar thing in the Hacking years ago, but we used the telescopic landing net and scooped up the blue swimmers.

A mate told me then that what we were doing was illegal so we stopped doing it.

  12. QUEENSLAND

Queensland has named an unchanged line-up to face the NSW Blues in the Origin decider at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday 2nd July. Another week to go to game, plenty of time for this debate.

    By 7 points :tease:

A record-equalling victory is a hard act to follow - especially in State of Origin.

But Queensland believe they must conjure an effort "better" than their 30-0 game two drubbing of NSW to clinch what is already tipped to be a classic series decider in Sydney on July 2.

Desperate to again dodge the dreaded favourites tag, Maroons coach Mal Meninga today claimed Queensland had lost all momentum from the Origin II mauling due to the three week break between games.

But Meninga still predicted an Origin heartstopper at ANZ Stadium next Wednesday, drawing comparisons with the 2006 series opener at the same venue.

In that match last minute inclusion and NSW halfback Brett Finch broke Maroon hearts on debut with a field goal that sealed a 17-16 win.

"This could be the best game of the lot - it will probably be the closest of the lot," Meninga said in Brisbane today.

"It may take a field goal in the 80th minute to win the footy game, like it did in 2006 with Finchy.

"It's a flip of the coin this game."

Meninga was all smiles when an unchanged Maroons team was announced today with no injury concerns.

But as bookmakers named Queensland warm favourites at their bogey venue, Meninga typically grasped for underdog status.

"We have to rebuild that momentum," he said of game two's record-equalling win.

"We just can't think we won game two and keep riding on a high into game three."

But Bronco Karmichael Hunt - retained as starting fullback for Queensland - clearly forgot his lines.

He talked up the Maroons, saying a NSW team still reeling from their game two mauling may not have seen anything yet.

"We don't want to repeat our performance in game two - we want to do better," he said.

Hunt said Queensland had also taken heart from the fact that they played so poorly in the series opener at Sydney - and still only lost 18-10.

"We only lost by eight points but we didn't play our best football," he said.

"That was the positive we took into game two and it turned our attitude around, had us firing from the first whistle."

Meninga once again summed up the key to Queensland's winning chances in Sydney - "attitude".

But Hunt admitted the team would have to create their own intensity at the vacuous ANZ Stadium after the luxury of feeding off a rabid Suncorp Stadium in June 11's thrashing.

"I think we do. The crowd's not as hyped as it is at Suncorp and ANZ is so open and the stands are so far from the field," he said.

"You have to mentally prepare different but I think we'll get it right."

Queensland's chairman of selectors Des Morris admitted the panel went close to replacing incumbent forward Ben Hannant with Cowboys enforcer Carl Webb.

"There was certainly some discussion about Carl Webb," he said.

"He has been playing extremely well over the last few weeks but these guys have done the job for us.

"I know Carl was hurting pretty badly after missing the last one but unfortunately an opportunity has been given to other players and they have taken it."

The Maroons will assemble tonight in Cairns, where they will have a fan day and training session tomorrow before flying to NSW.

They will be based at Terrigal on NSW's Central Coast in the countdown to Origin III.

This could be the best game of the lot - it will probably be the closest of the lot...

  13. Maybe Jewgaffer could go with you to assist?

Excellent first hand advise, and with all the contact names supplied.

Good chance to have the signwriter paint the boat Maroon colour. :tease:

    :yahoo:GO QUEENSLAND :yahoo:

  14. you would see leatherjackets and they appear to be asleep or in a trance so much so you can scoop them up with a landing net,if you dont touch them and doit slowly you will scoop them up everytime

    cheers arman

Wouldn't that be classed as "netting" and illegal?

  15. I've got some - still in the plastic and yet to use them.

Always reluctant to try something different whilst still getting results on my favourite lures.

    Interested to hear from others!

  16. Another great day out Roberta. Wendy didn't join you?

Nice Blackie, I note that it doesn't have the customary cut on the back of the head?

How about the breambos - did they go back to fight another day?

Haven't got any jointed lures, always considered them to have "too much action", but good to hear that you had success with them. Might think about buying one next time!

How long did you fish the change of the tide? and did they stay on the bite for much of the run out?

    Great photos too!

    Cheers
