  1. If it rev's out to 5000 - 6000rpm in netural then it is the prop.

If not then check the linkages to see if throttle connection in the motor are opening 100%

If it's fuel , the motor will tend to surge rather go to 3200 then go no further

I dought it is electrical as it will start missing when the load gets to 3200

  2. As for yakka , I have found that if I have a livie out hoping for that big fish the squid attack it eating into the back of the neck .

The livie does not last very long and the chances of hooking the squid is remote so I have taken one of the skewer "jigs" cut the shaft down attached a hook to a leader then attached the spikes to the leader close as possible above the hook with cable ties so if a squid attacks the livie before a fish my chances of a hook up should be improved.

Hopefully the livie will not go to waste & I have two options , fish or squid

Sounds good in theory , have yet to give it a field test

  3. I'm going to try them next time but will purchase 6 or so green king prawns & skewer them . I think a prawn will be more attractive & they are a lot firmer than a pillie so harder for the squid to get off & more chance of being caught on the spikes

  4. Derek Watching the video yr correct , the action appears to be equally , if not more important than the actual colour used

One video I saw the guy was flicking with a rod but had another line out with jig floating under a bobby cork. This also brought results

Have u found that squid are seasonal or are more active at certain times of the year ??

If so , would be interested to hear yr experiences

  5. Thanks again for all yr responses . I've discovered this morning There is a lot more to this than first meets the eye

I'm heading down the south coast at Easter , will be trying close off shore , water should be clear & hopefully sunny & only a slight drift , depending on the wind

Had a look at the video & what to use in various conditions , explains what colour to use & when also some interesting methods

  6. I'm planning on trying for some squid & need to purchase a few jigs

Had a look around , there are a lot of different colours to choose from but not keen to spend a heap of money on every colour available

Perhaps if it could be narrowed down to 2 or 3 would be nice

What colours appear to bring the best results

    Tks

  7. What sort of boat it it , ??

    what motor has been fitted

What is the approx. age of the boat / motor

How long roughly has it been since it's last outing

Have someone check it over to make sure every things works the way it should & the boat is sea worthy

  8. Injectors , possibly but if they were playing up I suspect the engine would be running rough. Currently , this is not the case

Fab1 , yr comment " Just remember some codes/faults don't show until the sensors have deteriated to a certain degree " is well worth keeping in mind

From all yr information I think it comes down to 6 options

Fuel pump . I had a similar problem on occusions with a VS Holden some years ago . This is easy to check , ie turn on the ignition a listen to see if the pump is running

    Idle Air Control (IAC)

    Crank Sensor

    Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) Possible but unlikely

    Immobilizer

My mechanic is very cluey but with out any code showing on the scanner he is reluctant to start replacing parts which could run into a lot of $$$$ before the faulty part is found

I will speak with him today however , as I am going away for a few weeks may not have time to get the car fixed until I get back

    Regards

  9. Thanks guys for your reply especially Fab1

I will try to cover the points you raised but let me say again there are NO error codes appear when the computer is checked .

Ambrose607 I had not thought of the NRMA , will give that a try . The CEL light goes off along with all the other dash lights when the engine starts

Singers . Crank angle sensor. This is a possibility as if you try to start the motor by just cranking over you can sit there cranking all day & it will not start , however crank for a few seconds , off then on again , normally by the third or fourth time it will start

    Fab1

**The problem is similar regardless of the engine temp so temp is not a factor

**Just recently the motor turns off just after starting , this has occurred 3 time over the past few weeks , You then need to go through the starting process again . Once in gear & driving it is OK

** There is no misfireing or acceleration hesitation . Once it starts the motor is 100% ok

** Intermittent starting . Which sensor are you refering to , the crank sensor ??

** Stalling . If you mean the engine just stops when in neutral , yes , as mentioned above , this is occasionally occurring

** Other than what I have mentioned , there are no irregular motor functions at this time

** MAF failure . Maybe but this component appears to be operational when the engine is running not when starting

** TPS , Oxygen sensor , Knock sensor , Ignition Coil & plug wires I think , at this time are all OK . It is a starting problem not a running problem

** IAC valve , maybe , will have it checked

EGR valve , this appears to more in use when the engine is running rather than starting

What are the possibilities that the problem is in the fuel system or with the Immobilizer??

    Thanks again

    Regards

  10. At the risk of stating the obvious the positive (red) wire is getting power to it from someware other than the pump switch , the trick is to find out from whare .

Perhaps start by inserting the pump fuse so the pump is running then remove the other fuses one by one & if the pump stops that will indicate the power source.

Trace the wireing for both & see where they are touching

The other option , trace the red wire from the pump back to the pump fuse & switch pannel , some ware it will be touching a positive cable , possibility the main cable running from the battery to the switch panel

  11. My daughter has a 2006 2.4lt petrol RAV4 with 110k on the clock

In recent months it has become hard to start , especially when hot

Once started the car performs faultlessly

The computer is not showing any faults and the web is not much help

The throttle body has been cleaned with only minor improvements

Im reluctant to take it to Toyota as this time an just throw $$$$ at it until I have some idea what is the solution

Has any one experienced this problem , if so how did u fix it ??

    Tks

    Geoff

  12. Pumps draw very little power & should not be a problem however , my concern is the weight that bin will have on the back of the boat when it is filled with water.

I think u will find the bin will hold a lot more than 100lt

I appreiciate the cost aspect but why so big ???

  13. When u say hire , do u mean a charter boat which come complete with a crew , tackle & bait ??

There are pro's & con's , the main one being the frequency of use , ie if u only fish a few time a year hire is the way to go as having yr own boat may sound good

but just leaving it parked at home can cost around $1000 PA in rego & insurance before u even get to running cost like fuel , servicing & maintance.

The main thing is to do yr homework regarding cost comparision V's conveinance
