  1. Gray's Point is a very popular spot for launching canoes so should be no problem for a yak but if yr planning on the weekend be early

as the car park can fill up quickly.

As for fishing a short paddle down stream where the sand flats are is worth trying preferably at high tide

  2. It is normal for the primer bulb to be soft once the motor is running . When the problem occurred , did u squeeze the bulb , did it go hard ??. What was the effect on the engine performance , ran ok for a while or made no difference

Whilst it may be the primer bulb , if the valve fails it does not prime. Very rarely does the valve close especially when the motor is running.

You don't mention if there is a fuel filter fitted. Most motors have two , one in the fuel line between the tank & the motor & another one under the cowling just next to the fuel pump . These should be checked , cleaned , and , or replaced first .

The other item to check is water in tank or the filler bowl next to the fuel petrol pump

Prior to spending yr $$$$ , by pass the primer bulb. If the motor runs ok then fit a new bulb

  3. Bilge pumps are normally optional so unless the original owner requested one fitted it's unlikely to be there.

Other than what u have checked so far , if one is fitted then there will be a hose coming up through the floor & out the side of the boat.

Is the floor F/Glass or ply. If ply then it will be held down with screws

  4. Why do u need to replace the axle , they normally last a life time ??

With the U bolts , if the nuts & threads are rusty don't waste yr time with WD40 , just get an angle grinder & cut them off. Assuming the axle is under the spring it should sit there while u fit the new U bolts

Just to do the U bolts 1 -1.5 hours

  5. A lot will depend on how deep the trailer is in the water , if water only up to the axle a lot of power will be required , at the other end of the scale if the trailer is deep in the water & the boat basically floats on then it will require very little power .

Then there is all the variations in between

  6. In addition to the items u mention ,

Using good quality marine grease , grease all the nipples

    Lubricate linkages

Clean & lub the stearing linkage

Remove the prop , clean shaft , lub & replace

Compression test cold / hot ,

Check all fuel lines for leaks or cracking

    Replace fuel filter

Check & clean any corrosion in & around the motor

Check the anode mounted on the motor

    Check & clean battery terminals

Check under dash for loose wires or corrosion

  7. The pick up is only there when on the plane & the blue base is out of the water .

I find that when on the plane it's not necessary to have the pump turned on as there is sufficent pressure from the water passing under the boat to keep a good flow into the tank

  8. I have yamaha , came with the boat , they are a multi purpose & do a number of functions , I don't think they are cheap to purchase.

Suggest u Google , there should be a few to choose from . As a guide , Bias used to sell one for $96.00

They are fitted in to the dash & wired to the ignition system

  9. I've not seen any thing like what yr looking for but is it possible to reverse wire a switch pannel so they illuminate when OFF or when in the ON position they are actually OFF ?

Or , what about a switch pannel which has background lighting the type they fit to large cruisers so u can see the gauges , switches at night

  10. I have something similar , purchased from a large hardware store for $8 + a couple of smaller partioned boxes for the hooks etc.

Much cheaper than the expensive boxes from a tackle store that do the same thing

  11. Flying to Adelaide on Saturday with 5 other guys , pick up a van then off to Whyalla , got a charter booked to fish for Shapper on Monday ..

The weather is looking a bit sus but hope we hook into some fish , well at least 1 good one we can keep for dinner.

Heading back to Adelaide on Tuesday stopping for a day or so at Clare , Barrossa & Mclaren Vale to check out the local products before flying home on Saturday

Should be good fun , hope i can remember it when i get home

  12. Any Yamaha dealer should be able to advise the price for the components & the cost to fit. If u have a problem locally , send me a pm & I can give u the names of a few people in Sydney.

You could also call site sponser , Craig at Huett marine . They are not Yamaha dealers but i'm sure he could help u or at least point u in the right direction ..

Also , assuming it is elect start , dont forget the electrics. It would also be worth considering the Yamaha gauges , from memory , they are not cheap but well worth having

  13. 30 / 40 lt is ok for what u plan to keep in the tank. Don't worry about the corners , right angles or round , does not matter.

Unless u need something custom made to fit a specific area the plastic (nylon) off the shelf tanks will be fine.

Provided the inlet is mounted near the top of the tank a shut off valve is not necessary.

How are u planning to fit the overflow pipeing then at the end of the day drain the tank.

As for the hole , it's yr decision , personally I would not do it & suspect that wil be the view of most members.

Is the boat Alum or F/Glass

    Geoff

  14. Alum boats if looked after basically last forever. Generally age is not the issue , it's more the shape , how they cut through the water , stability when at rest etc.

As for the motor age can be an aspect as motors have made a lot of technical improvements over the past 10 - 15 years. The main aspect is the No. of hours & the service / maintance history.
