  1. well done on the bay mate, glad that at least u managed a couple of decent fish. Even though most of the kingies were undersized, they still pack a punch for their size. regards DArryl
  2. hi mate, I was the one who said hi yesterday when I walked pass you. Good to know that you managed some decent fish. Bad luck at the one u lost. Saw you fighting it when I was running back to the car from the torrid rain. Anyway I landed a couple too so it didn;t make getting wet all that bad. Hopfully we would be able to have a chat one day when we fish IC again. regards DArryl

  5. Hi folks, The Orica site has been releasing a plume of contaminatants for ages. At present teh company has been spending loads of cash trying to solve the problem. At present the plume has not reached the sands of botany to completly affect the bay but like what jewel said, it is very close. The wellheads which have been drilled is aimed at taking the contaminated groundwater to a treatment plant for treatment before release. All this is costing the company millions of dollars. Now thats only the 1st problem abt contaminants in the bay. Another major issue is the leaking seweage flowing into the bay. Along foreshore road, there is a big drain flowing out near the airport. Many people has reported fairly gd catches there. However on certain windy days, many would have observed a pungent smell coming from it. All this comes from the sewerage pipe which is leaking in a couple of places. There are days when u do not smell it and its all because of the win direction. Added to that there are quite a number of industries and ports which operate in the bay. In the pass where there was little control- sometime i still think there isn't much of that. Illegal dumping of waste have been carrying on. Thus the sediments do get contaminated by lead, copper, mercury ect. test have been done on the area and although there is a possibility of getting contaminated, the risk is low. But for me, i still wouldn't take a chance with fish from the bay esp along foreshore road, and a couple of the industralised areas. But hey its always an excellent excuse to do catch and release eh. regards DArryl
  6. Gd catch X, I actually landed a couple of whittings on sp before i even managed to hook a bream on one. My guess any sp with a wormy colour shld get the nod from them. Those new gulp worms should be dynamite on those whitting i bet. Gotta give them a try when I am done with those pesty exams. regards DArryl

  9. Jewel, It was around $7.95 a pack and I think each pack had 5-6 jigheads each. The hooks looks really gd I must say. Wish gary would get them in 1/24 hooks. I noticed the hooks were the short shank ones too. Now all I need is to find some gd fish to test the heads out. Thats if I get the chance to get out. regards Darryl

  15. Hi mate, I am not too sure about the mercury level in hen and chicken bay. However i do know that the lead levels in Hen and Chicken bay and iron cove is very high. In actual fact, the heavy metal levels in some areas is so high that it is advisable not to consume any seafood caught from that area. It's just an advise but my thesis is about lead content in teh harbour so its just some info which i would like to pass on. Guess its a gd thing for the fish around. Helps encourage C&R at least i hope
  16. Goodness, Matt you are really reeling them in now mate. That is a gd fish no matter how u look at it. Even with the "scenary" which u pulled it out of is a fab!!!! good on u mate. Now i gotta look for one for myself. Bugger the thesis!!! regards DArryl

  18. What a day it has been!!! Went out with Kim Da Bream (Kamal)today to the Georges river for a fish. At the boat ramp, the wind was still and the water was warm. We were quietly optimistic that we would do well today. Boy did i need it. After a long and lean winter for me and with a new stella to christian, I badly need something decent today. we started the session at Captain Cooks bridge in hope we would cross paths with one of the many jewies which have been "rumoured" to be prowling the georges river of late. As none of us have ever landed a SP jewie we really were not too sure what to do. We started casting around the pylons After moving over a couple of holes with little to show but tailor chops on our tails, we were getting pretty disappointed. Finally just as the tide turned, my line jumped and i was losing line at a pretty decent rate. Hookup!!! Oh pls pls dun let it be a flattie. Finally after a decent couple of runs, we saw colour. And it was silver !! A jewie!. Just at that moment i realised that i didn't bring my boga and had to rely on kamal's dodgy looking "boga" Just as kamal lifted the jewie on board the "boga" gave way and the jewie fell on the floor. There i was howling and yapping like a kid in a candy store. My fisrt sp jewie and my cherry popped! At 71 cm it was not gonna break and records but who care!!!! It was my first and thats all that mattered. I was stoked. The Sp which was it downfall was the 5 inch jerk shad with a revhead jighead. After the customary photos, we let the jewie go to grow some more. Now Kamal wanted one and off he went casting. A couple of cast later, he too got hit and the fish took him all around the boat. A couple of mins later, a nice looking jewie came on boat. 62cm it went. yipeee!!! 2 Sp Jewie "virgins " no more!!! Things were looking gd. After that all we got were a couple of flatties. so it was time for a move. Off we went to botany bay for the trevors. I had recently bought a stella 1000 and was really hoping to open its account today. Have always believed that i had to catch a proper fish on new gear. Rigging up a bass minow each we both fired a cast out and bang !! Double hookup at the same time!!! The stella didn;t even get a crank before my bassminow was hit!!!!! This is a great reel!! This continued for the new hour and we ended the session with 17 gd sized trevors. The day just gets better and better. We then headed upriver inhope for a bream or two. People who know me knows that I havn't acutally landed a proper bream for over two months. It was great that my 1st couple of cast on our first boat resulted in a nice fit undersized bream for me. Small but its all gd. To make things even better i actually landed a legal bream (30cm)!!!! that was such an uncommon sight for me. With my last legal bream over two months ago. We tried fishing a couple more holes which resulted in 2 more hookups but unfortuantely we didn't get to see a single fish. Oh wells neighter of us were complaining. After that we pulled the pin and headed back to the ramp. It was a really gd day for me. Enjoyed the company, popped my sp jewie cherry , christianed my stella and finally landed a decent bream after such a long time. regards DArryl
  19. I believe they are pre formed foam poppers for flies. Unfortunately i have no idea where to get them in Australia but i do know where u can get them in Singapore. pm me if u want their addy regards DArryl
  20. seems like u guys are doing really well of late. Man how i wish i could find some time to get out to the water. Am about to go crazy. Would hope that i can find a day at least this wk to wet a line. regards DArryl
  21. mario, with me as a fellow Singaporean, how can i not poison him. Now i really shld get him to look at those nice looking reels called certates!!!! hahaha regards Darryl
  22. Ron, u are making me a jealous man. That is a pretty gd session in my books. Just like i have told u, the first is always the hardest. Its all downhill from now. lol until u start looking for that 40cm bream or that 80cm flattie. Then things gets interesting. Then 25cm bream or 40cm flattie will just be "bycatches". Lol but then again i could kill for a legal fish right now. Welcome to the poisoned family. Get ready from the life of an Sp fisho- lots of glitter in the hair and bag and bags of plastics inthe home. Add that nice looking miller rod and certate and ur bank acct would soon look alittle like mine. regards Darryl

    Squid

I have been told that if u get some squid chasing ur jig but not hitting, what you could do is to rub a piece of pillie over the fabric of the jig before casting it out. Not too sure if it works but i guess it would add a little bit of scent to the jig. regards Darryl
  24. welcome to the site Mr X. glad u have finally gotten urself on the site. People!!! this dude is a fly fisho and a pretty gd one to add. Hahah i mean anyone who can flyfish in singapore and actually catch fish must be pretty gd!!!!! regards DArryl
  25. Paggles, do u use grated potatos to get ur yakkas?? I normally just get a can of cat food and chuck a spoon full every now and then. Works a treat and you hands dun get smelly. the only problem is the pigeons also want a crack at the cat food. Get the cheapest catfood u can get. Oh yeah pilchard catfood works best. Every now and then throw in a few pilchard cubes to attract the biggies to it. Have fun mate. Dun be disappointed, when clifton is on fire it burns with fury and loads of fun. But when its quiet its pretty quiet with not much to show. Me and mario have gone home empty handed loads of times but we never forget the loads of times we go back with stories to tell and fish in the esky. Hahaha sashimi is best on the jetty itself mate!!! try a fresh yakka raw. I have a bottle of sooya sauce in my bag so me and mario try sashimi for almost everything. Oh a tip- jewie raw taste terrible, bonnies are gd, kingies and squid are fab and garfish are the bomb!!! Have a gd one eh. Just keep trying. You'll catch sometime eventually.
