madsmc, warm soapy water is good I treat the fly line with a product called glide it makes the line slippery and casts further and makes future cleaning easier. You need to apply it with a soft cloth leave it for a little while then with a clean soft cloth rub it off. Makes a big difference. I have used it for years on my lines and they are as good as new. I used Armourall on one line and it only lasted a couple of seasons, it may have been a bad line but I wont risk it with any of my others. Big-Pete

I am no expert but what I think you are suffering from is stress, what I think you should do is take some time off work take the boat out and do a bit of soul searching. Think about this in some time soon this drought will break and it will rain for a long time and you will not be able to fish and you can rack up some brownie points at work with renewed interest and working overtime, (you will need some accessories for the boat new rods etc) So it will be a win win situation plenty of fish in the freezer and the boss will think of you as a valued member of staff. Dont forget to take plenty of photos of you holding fish so these can be placed on the fridge so the wife and kids can remember who you are. As for a cure take two pilchards and go fishing in the morning Big Pete

I would like to go hopefully my arm will be out its sling by then. If anyone is travelling from the Sutherland Shire area or close to and has a spare seat, I would appreciate a lift . As I teach fly tying I could bring along some gear and give a demo or two on the Art of Tying. Fishn, sorry about the time lag, I have been out of action;still am but reading a tape isnt that hard . The front casting deck is 820 mm long and the rear is 780 mm long. I hope this helps the rest of the photos require me to pull the boat of the garage and this may be a few months away at this stage Big Pete

I watched the clips today they look great but if I want a lure to look that life like I would use live bait,(its a lot cheaper) Big-Pete

I will post some more pictures next time I get the boat out so that you can see the finished product and how I have set up the hatches. I have not painted the hull as I feel it would not achieve any thing, but of course I can be talked into it if the right amount of pressure is applied. I forgot to mention I scrubbed the floor with a stainless/steel wire brush and then sprayed it with lanox to help protect it from the elements. Here is a photo of the front seat in place, this is in the travel position ann can be folded flat so that the lean seat can be used on the casting platform. No the roo isn't part of the refurbish

Here is the rear deck in place and covered with carpet, under the deck is a 25 ltr s/steel fuel tank a medium sized gel battery and storage area for the rear nav light and lifejacket and bilge pump. Sorry about the mess but space is scarce. Big Pete

Fitting of the main floor area, I have cut a hole in readiness for the pedastal seat. Big Pete

The area in front of the front seat the anchor well and the battery for the electric notice the supports in place to hold the casting platform. Big Pete

After removing the middle thwart I fitted two new supports which ran up to the top of the gunnels. This is shown in this photo.

This is the middle thwart that I removed so that I could make the floor nice and flat but as you can see I used it as a brace for the fitting of a floor support.

Fitting the floor support ribs, these were made from 50x25 mm aluminium tube glued and srewed in place as the boat is over 15 years old and the chances of welding it were pretty slim

After many attempts to do up my old 4.1mtr Quintrex I finally decided to have one more attempt. I have over tried to fit forward steering, a centre console but I have always gone back to a tiller steer. After seeing a few Bass/Bream boats I thought this is what I want. So I set out to convert my boat into one. I looked at a few designs and I was lucky enough to fish with Ozy in his old boat I went out and bought some 12mm ply for the floor and some marine carpet s/steel piano hinges and a few hundred other bits and pieces. Pedestal seats and a Minn Kota for up the front. I will post the photos as they will tell the story better than I can Big Pete

Hi Trev, I have built a few fly rods from 3wt to 12 wt. There is a site that gives lots of recepies and use grade a thread single foot guides and the minimum of wraps to cover the foot of your guides and apply the thinest of coats of epoxy to the bindings. Of course buy the best guides that you can afford and cork is the only material to use for grips Good Luck they are fun to build and the first fish you catch on a fly rod you built is always a good thing Big Pete
