today my mate and myself went to a spot near the gladesville bridge, the spot i usually go to
my mate is a bit older than i am but hes only caught 1 fish in his life and he seemed pretty keen to catch some so we left at around 2pm to the spot, we were fishing with some prawns, squid and some meat from the butcher
the story of the first fish he ever caught was pretty funny, it was about 10 years ago when he was at south west rocks and his mother bought him a $10 rod , and when they went fishing and hooked onto a fish, it snagged them around a pole, then the rod broke while he was trying to pull the hook out, then he broke the handle on the reel trying to reel it in so there they had a modified rod and when they pulled it in by hand it was only a tiny little bream
anyways we started fishing and about half an hour in of using prawns i got a fish hooked and passed the rod over to him and brought up a little tailor
then soon after he pulled this monster in by himself thanks to some master photography (i've been in the business for 50 years)
waited about an hour with only a few bites, then i finally hooked onto something, it felt really big on my very light rod, then it fell off! i kept winding in and the tailor that fell off turned around and ate the bait again that was on the surface
another hour or so passed and one of our mates that we never thought went fishing turned up to the same spot as us, and we both wound in to say hi to them, and my friend had something big on the line, it fought pretty hard, you should have seen the look on his face when we were bringing it up the 3m ledge! (note: his face in the photo does not indicate how happy he was)
it was quite a decent leatherjacket, havent really seen one like that caught that big before, estimate it to be around 36cm
had a try with this new overhead reel i got, but i kept getting birdsnests so i gave up on it
after the leatherjacket we waiteed a bit with no luck, and turned back home for some maccas
in all it was a pretty good day, we were out of the wind and the sun was quite warm without the wind chill factor, hope to go back there some day
