What are the trick of catching these??? I seen people tossing sand into the water, I asked the old man what's it for?? He said it attract the black fish is that true???
That is not only sand but also containing chopped weed and we call it burley to attract fish to come and bite out bait.
I just sent you a PM.
Thanks,
Andy

You must have punctured its gallbladder. It leaves yellow greenish colour and bitter taste, but still edible if cooked with a lot of spices like curry.
Cheers,

Use circle hooks and set the drag max to the line capacity before putting it on the rod holders.
Let's the fish hook themselves.

Hi Mondo,
To me it works best 2 hours before high or low tide in South Coogee especially when the swell is between a meter to 11/2 m.

Wow, I would need to take a TAFE course to do that.
Thanks for the generosity to explain in detail.

Yes, we can catch them all year around.

Hello Flattie.
I make the stems from 4mm carbon rod, the body from 'virgin' champagne corks (they are perfectly cylindrical and have never been in a bottle) and the balance weight from either hollow point rifle projectiles or I have recently made a mould for casting tube which I cut to the length I need to balance the float.
The first pic shows a range of floats I have made in the past few weeks. Second shows the lead tube (which still needs tidying up)and third shows the projectiles on the 3mm estuary floats. The colour on the top of the stems is iron on trim tape, used in model aircraft covering. Just need to trim them to length and they will be ready for use. A couple have been used already, as you can see by the tarnish on the copper jacketed projectiles.

Hi Stormy,
Your homemade floats look nicer than the ones sold in tackle shops.
I think the carbon rods must be expensive and to get some rifle projectiles will not be easy.
I myself just use lead sinkers to balance the cork floats.
As bluebottle18 said organizing a workshop/DIY day is a great idea and count me in if you really want to do it.
I want to post some of my homemade blackfish floats here but I do not know how to do it, I could not find any insert or attach sign.
They work well and make me get more addicted to blackfishing.

Hi Stormy,
It is nice to see blackfish start biting. That was a good catch.
Btw, I make my own blackfish floats as well. I use wine cork, plastic tube and lead sinker glued.
Do you mind showing me a picture of your homemade floats?
Thanks,
Andy

How does everyone keep the line on the reel after using it ie when it isn't rigged up and your taking it home oor whatever?
Use a rubber band.Andy -
Good luck.
Looking forward to reading your report.

I always love reading Roberta's article.
Btw, does it work for blackfish as well?
Thanks,

I was trying to catch Bream or Tarwhine on prawn using running sinker rig for almost an hour this morning with no result; So I changed my target to Blackfish using float and I caught 3 decent blackfish on prawn within around 20 minutes. The last cast was taken by a drummer I assume as he dove so fast to the closest rock below the edge where I was standing on and I lost the rig and the only float I brought.
It’s time to fish after the big swell.

That's a nice table fish, you would have to be content with that for under 2hrs beach fishing on bread. I know I would!
Jeff
You're right Jeff, but last year at least I could get 3 or 4 fish within 2 hours from this spot and no more trevally and drummer anymore lately.

To fish at South Coogee from 6.15am to 8.05am this morning on bread only got one 30cm fat bream.
Nothing special, it seems the spot is overfished or the fish have gone to somewhere else.

That was nice haul and report, good on you.

Mate, if I were you I would take Shimano Baitrunner 3500B or 4500B for him. I'm happy with these reels.
