  1. My father blooded me on the rocks at maroubra both North and South, Malabar and the like of jolong a lot of close calls and i have the scars to prove it can be dicey at the Stake, it's a nasty rock with a bad backwash, joinn Sydney Eastern Suburbs anglers they can show you the ropes! If your not confident in your rock hopping abilities or lack the safety gear give it a miss.

If you want some good spots try the container wall the bridge at Bare Island drifting bait down the chanel in a big southerly swell caught loads off there! The beach at Maroubra at night or early morning will hold fish and is a bit safer try the north end in a low swell.

Otherwise try places like Green Point at watsons bay or Rose Bay around the Hermitage. Safe places that hold some big ocean run fish.

    Hi Luderick-angler,

Thanks a lot for your precious advice.

    Regards,

    Andy

  2. fishing the stake at nth maroubra used to be very good many yrs ago for me and if they are not biting or swell is issue try a little nth into lurline bay..

the pool and other places nearby used to hold cabbage most times as well..

havnt fished there for a loooong time but we always got good bags of blackies and drummer..

a heavy spin stick for first light nearby with gar or metals will be a wise thing, :1naughty: wont say any more as i will get shot

good luck... there is plenty of good spots along the eastern suburbs just choose wisely and be safe.....

    cheers...steve....

    Good morning Roosterman.

Thanks for your precious advice, but the Stake is a bit scary spot to me with its unexpected swells.

    Cheers,

    Andy

    G'day flattie,

When do you intend to head out? I wouldnt mind joining you. I'm also a novice at Blackfishing though.

    Hi Tevoro,

Thanks for your response and intention to accompany me.

I am going out tomorrow morning 6.30 from my address in Kingsford.

It takes 10 minutes to get there.

I’ll PM you my contact details.

    Regards,

    Andy

  3. Hi Andy

Well done on making your own floats! Now all we need to do is 'blood' them! :)

Never having fished south of the bridge for blackies ..... I'd be heading to a jetty or safe ledge in the harbour somewhere - it would be better not 'starting off' on the ocean rocks, as it can be dangerous, until you know what you are doing. Also you should always fish with a buddy anyway ... much more fun, specially if they have blackfished before! You can pick their brain!

Don't forget to add your suburb to your 'profile' so others can see where you live for other fishing trips - more likely to attract a fishing buddy if they easily see what area you live in!

Anywhere near the airport would be good, I reckon!

Good luck - hope you get into some soon!!

    Roberta

Thanks for your most valuable advice Roberta.

Btw, do you use white bread as well for bait to catch blackie besides the usual weeds? Which one is better? As the weeds are not always available anytime we want to fish and on the other hand we can catch bream, drummer and trevally as side catch while using bread.

    Cheers,

    Andy

  4. After reading how to catch blackfish by Roberta which is worth reading, I feel interested to try it. I have just bought the gears and made my own floats.

I live in Kingsford so I will try it in Maroubra or Coogee.

Any suggestion of the spots or anyone to come along with would be most appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Andy

  5. We can make environmental friendly sinkers from stones.

Chose the size, shape and weight of the stones which are suitable for your need. Drill them using small drill bits, make the hollow a bit undermined like dentist doing tooth filling then fill it with glue and insert a swivel. Let the glue set properly in 24 hours before using the DIY sinkers.

If you get snagged you'll only lose a swivel and all your hassle making it but it's fun.

    Cheers,

    flattie

A sugar cube would make a great dissolving sinker Pete! I thought you might have come up with something like a big frozen squid with a hook in it instead of the recommended block of ice method. :D

    Cheers

  7. Hey guys

Since I don't have a boat I fish landbased very often. But I would like to tey some new spots that people like to fish at. I am not asking for Secret spots but places where i can often catch fish. I like to fish mainly for flatties, bream and jewies.

    Thanks guys

    cheers

    Steve

    Hi Steve,

Which part of Sydney do you want to fish?

I live in Kingsford so most of the time I do landbased fishing in Eastern suburb or South Sydney.

A lot of flatties can be caught in Botany Bay, Yarra Bay, while for bream you can catch easily in South Coogee, north of Maroubra beach and Laperouse.

I have never caught any Yewies.

If you need someone to go with just let me know.

    Cheers,

    Andy

  8. Measure how long one full turn of the reel handle cranks the line. Divide 300 yards by that, will tell you how many handle turns you need approximately to get 300 yards. That should work...

I think, it won't work that way.

As the diameter of the empty spool is smaller than the half full spool let alone the fulled up spool.

And the larger the diameter of the spool will crank longer line for every full turn of the reel handle.

    Sorry if I'm wrong

  9. True champions the lot of you :yahoo:

Some Raiders came from afar a field as Tuross Heads (Hodgey) and Yarraone and his crew from Bathurst.

Huey brought his boat down for the raiders to have a test run in from Brooklyn.

Pete from GoFish who made it down before he had to go out.

I enjoyed speeking with all the raiders, some who are regulars and some who are first timers.

Flatty and his son and their guests from Jogjakarta who only arrived in Oz in the am today :biggrin2:

Choteo and his lovely wife and 3 littleuns under 4 and a new born :1yikes: in their boat.

Donnas lovely 2 girls,Iceman and his wife Donna and their two girls just to mention a few.

It was a fantastic day and the icing on the cake was Marco and Joe who had very little idea of what to do and both scored PB's on soft plastics :yahoo:

Congratulations to all the Fishraiders on conducting yourselves with the utmost integrity all day and to all the helpers,THANKS A BUNCH

With so much Fishraider spirit the Socials will continue and get better every time.

This was our third Botany Bay Social and another roaring success.

One of our raiders teams were seen to be fishing under an unamed bridge ,burleying with my bloody yellowfin I caught at Browns earlier this yr. Some people have a hide :074:

Well done to all the fishos and guests who made this a day to remember.

    Regards Stewy

A great event comes with nice pictures as a big success.

Congratulations and thank you for the hospitality.

    Andy the flattie
