  3. Gday Raiders, Hit Sydney Harbour last night\late arvo with the intention of getting some live bait or having a troll with some fresh bait bought at the fish markets and some lures. Went to my usual spot and managed a few 50cm tailors to smash my Rapals, double hook ups and all, heaps of fun. Thought that some of the saller ones would be good Jewie bait cut in half so we headed to the other spot then placed our selves in position, a bit hard as it was a bit windy but managed all the same. Cut the bait placed on a bouble 6.0 mustad hook set up on 40lb tracer and 30lb sufixbraid spooled on a 4500 baitrunner. Set the baitruner on light drag as jewies dont like to feel wheight on the line. Waited, burlied, waited, burlied then TING...TING....TING....ZING............. Engaged the drag and my 40lb Diawa Monsta Mesh was in half and doing a top jub (heaps of grunt) MATE... after a 20 minute fight .......HOOOOO NOOOOO! I hooked up a 1.6m Prt Jackson Shark I didnt know weather to lagh or cry..... Never the less at least the night was an eventfull one.
  4. Sorry to bust your buble, but if the seller does not want to help you via verbal contact, claims department willjust give him a slap in the wrist. If you still got his phone number give him a call and ask for some moneytry compensation. Speaking through experiance. Cheers
  5. That sux, Good luck landbased. You can pick up a good motor for the rightprice mate Im sure, and look at it this way, at least you know its not going to let you down. Im sure HueyM could sorce one for you mate. But if you could afford it or save that little bit more get a brand new 30hp mate, huey will help.At least when you want to upgrade the boat just buy a new hull and you will allready have the new motor you purchased. Then you cant go wrong. I think we have all had simillar experience with our first boats. Good luck Pm me if you would like any help with stuff, inc installation to help with nocking a few $ off end price so you could get it sooner.
  6. Hay dude, I was out there chasing the same salmon run as you. That guy with the small white side console boat wearing a cap with the small metal lure was killing it. Where you the guys in the ally tinny with the straw hats throwing the livies around?(you asked me what they where.....and I said kingies but I was wrong) Mate I got one, salmon that is, fowl hooked to my surprise. Mate they where feeding on very smal bait and I went to the tackel shop the next day and scored a small white lure used for such occasions, so im told. We gave up as well, but what a good day to be on the water...... got scorched by the sun. no 30+ for me, I forgot it
  7. Good on ya mate, persistance is theway to go. Keep your eye on the prize. When the temp raises there will be more posts of the like.

    Fads

Spoke to some bloke that is actualy in charge of deploying them. He said he is doing the job this week or so (close to shore ones) and the far out one ( to far for my boat ) next couple of weeks. He said he will give me the markings soon. Keep tuned
  9. High tech realy? thats mad I have a 90 4 stroke and at just in gear or so is fine. As long, of course, as the bait is riged correctly.

    Beach Fishing

Gday raiders, Ive just got into some beach fishing and purchased a new wilson 12' rod but just above the reel mount, about 20cm up from the reel, is a little metal, curled, hook type thing solidly built in the rod. Whats that for? Can any one help? Is it to assist with casting or something? Its deffinatly not made for placing your hook for when you put it away. Cheers
  12. In my oppinion its a joke, Do you walk bakwards or run backwards and expect others to get out your way........... NO.... you go backwards at your own risk mate. If you were anchored...... what then........ If they are coming towards you and not looking at what they are doing just line them up with your paddel or a big fish you just cought and SLAP them at the back of the head when they zip past ya..........and then givem the card or one of these

    Boat Ramps........

Gday relaps, you are absolutly right, thats exactly what Im talking about. If they drop there trailor off and then take off I dont mind but when the warm up the boat and take there sweetass time its not right. I understand that some times the person you are fishing with can not drive the boat or revers a trailor for that matter but Im sure he could hold the boat near the ramp for a while while you get the trailor sorted. At least 2 other faster boats can get in and on there way by the time you get back. Re getting a smaller boat, WHY SHOULD I Why do have to sacrifice my comfort for others comfort due to there lack of curtisy
  14. Good on ya mate, well done. Its not hard once you have seen it done once.

    Boat Ramps........

Rob, yes I know, Lillyfield road is a shoker isnt it? Collect a few shopping trolleys on the way I use Tunks park, but as I said Its bloody busy and all those presious femails that take there bloody time to get in the boat while others are waitingto use the jetty, mean while others are waiting for you move your car to get in the water and so on........ It shits me. I went out at tunks park Sat morning at 8am and could not find a parking spot for a while. Hunted arround middle harbour for kingies, no good, headed out to the heads and was one of 10 odd boats chassing a school of salmon for about 1 hour. Not many boats had much luck from what I could see except one guy with a small metal lure that got the first one. Then I got one with a small metal. Then thats it for what I could see. Mate I saw people including my self throw every thing from plastick, metal, livies bar the kitchen sink. My mate said we should have brought a stick of TNT with us Was fun anyway, good to get the boat out. Rosebay, I dont know about, only went there once a long time ago. Is there much parking there? cant remember.

    Boat Ramps........

Wheres wharf rd and kissing point road? I would like to use drummoyne as its down the road but you cant win them all. As I mentioned when I get to one with a warf, theres allways some one there that hogs the warf Im a big boy maybe I should say some thing.
  17. Mate, A word of warning, I have a set or rocket launchers on my 5.25, a decent pair, and on day on the water I was crusing to my usual spot. Hit some not so big wake from a passing boat and my $1000 rod and reel flew out of the rocket launcher and hit the transom. That would have been an expensive outing if it went in the drink. Be carefull. Im sure you wil find a fabricator on the we that could do this for you, search alloy fabrication on this site, positive someone mentioned fab of some sort not long ago. Also for about $500 I got a premade white water bimini and rocket launcher kit. Check that out as well. Good luck.
  18. Gday raiders, Ive got a bit of a spit... I own a farly large boat 5.25m and I dont get to much time to use it but when I do most of the time is when my mates are at work as I work for myself and most of my work is on theweek end. So i have no choice but to go out on my own. But when you put it in the water there is no where you could tie the boat to while you park the car so you dont find that the bloody thing has floated away in the bay . And when you come in, the same thing. I use a few ramps that dont have jettys nearthem and if they have jettys they are usualy being used by people having a yarn or waiting for others to arrive. Why doesnt the council dinabolt a few ring polts on the sides of the ramps or something. It would make life allot easyer for us sole fisherman with out using 50m of rope to tie the bloody thing to a nearby bin or tree . I was actualy going to go to the ramps I frequent with a cordless hamer drill and put some in myself. Has anyone got this problem or is it just me.. Has any one got any sugestions or techniques that might be helpfull. Cheers
  19. Cheers Johnno and brickman, Ive got his dvd, its the one I talked about on the first post. Is the book better with more info? Cheers
  20. Thanks ben, looks good and yes you should turn off the fish ID. go the dragons.
  21. Just wondering if some one could help. Ive got a Humingbird 343c. colour sonar Is this an ok unit? Has anyone put their sonar reading of a school of kings on a PC and can post a pic of what a tipical school looks like on the sounder? I get a lot of noise from the sounder unless Im going 10 knots and under, is that normal? Ive got dvd on reading sonars but some how the settings dont correspond with my setting options such as the grey line. If any one has one of these units could you give me some of your preffered settings and a brief explanation on why you preffer it that way. Some times I get frustrated, I search what feels like the whole harbour and find nothing but flat bottoms and no sighn of readings. Is it me just looking in the wrong places or is my sounder playing tricks on me (not set up properly) Seems all the fish I catch are assed cause I didnt find them on the sounder Help would be appreciated.
  22. All the above. Pelicans right, if its your first time get some one who has done it before to do it for you. Those kits are basic and dont have the right quantities you require. Are you local to the innerwest? if so I could have a look at it for you. Dont use car bog..........its crap. Build glass sheets up, mix of mesh and loosethread. Mesh on the outside, let dry then build with loodse thread with the resin mixed with a proper glass resin expander then mesh on the out side. Make sure before doing anyglass you sand the edges of the hole on both sides so the edges come to a point. This will make sure the new glass grabs hold of the old glass and when you sand to smooth it up new overlaps old, on both sides. GOOD HOLD. Then prime, gelcoat, paint. This will seal from water. Good idea to do this on both sides(does not have to be pretty onthe inside). Hardware have all the things you need, so does whitworths or bias. Good luck and pm me if you need more help or to come and have alook at it for you.
  23. You can buy one off Huey, Im sure hewill give you a good deal
