  1. Gonna be in Melbourne watching Collingwood belt the bombers on Monday and then tuesday going to the snowy mountains for a couple days to catch a few trout
  2. awesome stuff, I love Eucumbene and am heading down there after the long weekend, water levels look as high as I've seen in a while judging from the photos. Just wish I was good with the fly rod, most of our fishing is trolling and spinning down there. Top report though matt, must be satisfying to have been able to crack the code
  3. yeh ive used the stuff it doesnt improve catch rates in my experience and as stewy said gets everywhere pm for the tackle store I got it from
  4. same story on sunday i think, we caught plenty of squid but the kings werent playing ball
  5. i bought a pflueger president a while for flicking hardbodies around for bass and trout, everyone talks about improved cast accuracy/distance, but to be honest, a spin outfit casts just as far without worrying about overruns and is just far easier to use, i wouldnt bother with a baitcaster again given the quality of spin reels around now
  6. jigs around the 200gm mark are good on the kings down there provided the current is running, Samaki and river 2 sea are my fav jigs for down there
  7. ive been using a bigger version this year chasing kings in the harbour, while i cant compare them to stellas and saltigas having never used either, for $350 (i dont think its a fair comparison when you look at the price difference) my reel has performed beautifully, heaps of torque and the drag has been good landing kings up to 90cm
  8. Our family has had a 5.5 meter TABS half cab for two and a half years and the yamaha 115hp 4stroke has just clicked over 300hrs. We hardly have a single complaint about either the hull or the motor, the yammie has not missed a beat. As for the hull (and this is my opinion only) it murders comparable stacers and quinnies in how it eats up chop, they are a little dearer than the brands mentioned but when we started looking for aboat we had our heart set on a quintrex but now couldnt be happier with what we have. Of course if you have the money I'd go for a bar crusher, but if you don't then dont dismiss a Tabs
  9. Ive got a 7'10 starlo stix tournament pro that fires light weights a fair distance, i use it for bait fishing and also casting small metals at bonnies and stuff on the surface and love it for that, itd be perfect for flicking for bream and flatties off the shore too, combined with a 2500 stradic and 10lb nitlon braid, casts a mile. You could pick one up for less than 150 atm.
  10. for some reason i was certain lockwood was going to mention that dolly caught between the heads, was an amazing capture and goes to show the influence fr is having in sydney
  11. Gday, went out yesterday with a mate, first stop was squid and I was super confident having landed 10plus squid every outing for the past 6 trips. Today however got to the first spot and the water seemed dirtier than usual (anybody else find that?). Anyway long story short managed one measly squid in two and a half hours at heaps of different spots. At one spot in particular they were there, would follow the jig to the boat and i would pause the retrieve. The squid would then go for the jig in the middle (away from the spikes) and for the life of me I couldn't land them, they would just grab the jig and then let go very quickly. Anyway ran out of time so went to do what we could with the one squid we had, the head and two strips lasted all of about 5 seconds at the sticks before rats engulfed them, was a bit of fun but thoroughly disappointing not being able to catch any more bait. Anybody struggle on the squid yesterday?
  12. dont tell me u got the 85cm model on an 8lb outfit?
  13. Hi guys, am heading up the hawkesbury next week for a few days bass fishing, in the past have stuck to hardbody's when targeting them. However thought I would try a few plastics this time, the problem is I'm not sure what styles would be best for bass? If anybody wanted to share their favourite bass plastics with me it would be much appreciated Thanks raiders
  14. havent yet, still tossing it up, probs be a quick sear on the bbq
  15. WEnt out yesterday morning and this morning. Yesterday found squid fairly easy and hit a few spots in the harbour looking for kings, eventually we found them and I learnt an important lesson. First three hits we couldn't stop the kings and they simply shredded the leader (50lb braid, 80lb mono leader). Deciding I had to trust my knots I locked up the drag and after a good tussle got my PB Harbour Kingy at 85cm Had to go after that as I had cricket that arvo. Went out again this morning and was a similar story with the squid but could only find rats unfortunately. Still a good weekend for me with a PB and a valuable lesson learnt
  16. Hey raiders, went for a very quick sesh this morning have cricket this arvo so went out from roseville around 6 and first cast nailed a squid at balmoral and then another couple around manly. Went for a troll around north head for zip and the water temp was around 18.5 degrees. Wind picked up so headed in to Middle Harbour and found the water around 3-4 degrees warmer. In short landed 3 kings on squid around 63cm in very short succession and a 30 cm bream before having to pack it in. There was loads of bait in MH so seems to be the go atm. Anyway not a bad little session, sorry about the lack of pics but whenever i bring the camera out i catch zip
  17. Hitting MH tonight for some squid and hopefully turning a couple in to some nice kingies in the morning

  18. Gday raiders, heading down to Montague Island in a couple of weeks for the second time. Just wondering because last time we trolled and jigged for kingies and had good success however we were lucky they were responding to lures because we never even bothered catching bait just in case. This has got me worried we might not be so lucky this time with lures. So was wondering if squid are around in the Inlet and wats the best way to locate yakkas and slimies offshore because the only experience I've had catching bait has been inside the harbour where I know where to look. If anyone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it Thanks raiders
  19. any chance of a few more details? baby kingy haha
  20. Been hitting the harbour regularly lately and on friday morning went out with Josh88. We hit a few squid spots for zip (am I the only one struggling the past few weeks) so mucked around the heads throwing lures at the countless bonnies and salmon on the surface which kept us entertained for a couple of hours. Dropped a few yakkas in MH hoping for a kingy once again no success. Feeling unsatisfied on friday arvo decided to head back out again that night with a couple mates (non raiders) and at about 10pm last night was at the spit trying again for squid only managed 2 in about 3 hrs of trying. So went to sleep for a couple hours and tried AGAIN for squid for zip AGAIN. downrigged the squid we caught the previous evening around the spit for zero this morning. Probably a pretty boring report for u raiders haha but if anyone has any suggestions about how to get my squidding mojo back i'd love to hear
  21. I have two stradics in the 2500 and 3000 size and they are sensational for their price, smooth and tough. However I wouldn't buy them for King fishing depending on your budget I'd go for a spheros like they have said. Otherwise I bought a tuff tackle diablo 9000 two months ago and am loving it, heaps of torque, line capacity, designed for 80lb braid so would handle 50lb easily and aussie made too, I picked mine up for around 370. Also when you ask about a reel's drag capacity, I personally would not want to go anywhere near any of my reel's drag capacity as it just stuffs your drag washers get a reel with loads of drag.
  22. Hey guys, interesting to hear everyone's thoughts. I was aware that kings are around all year but meant when they start coming in their masses as my angling skills don't match those of the likes of greg and dan who clearly know their way around the harbour alot better than i do. Anyway thanks for the replies
  23. Headed out this morning around 6. First stop was north head for light tackle fun casting metals and plastics at the thousands of bonnies. A couple of casts and i was on to the biggest yakka ive ever seen, went around 35cms. Spent about an hour catching bonnies on small metals and 3inch powerbaits. Then scooted around the eastern suburbs picking up 3 calamari perfect bait size. Soaked these for a while downrigging seaforth and a couple of spots in middle harbour for zip. Any idea when the kingies should arrive? Was a fun morning nonetheless, casting metals for bonnies on 6lb gear is about as much fun as you can have.
  24. Was down there the week before the long weekend and we had a really good week trolling lead cores and flatlines. 75% of fish were caught on lead core. Pink and blue tassie devils did the damage for us, but stiffy vibes are good too if you are looking for an option out of left field. Fish were biting throughout the day. Didn't do much baitfishing but with the rising water level it should be good too.
