  1. 1 trap or 5 witches hats and they must be tagged with your name and address etc. Baz PS. Don't ask me for any tips - I haven't caught anything in them yet!
  2. Years ago, my dad and I cartopped my punt and couldn't be bothered taking the gear out of it for a short trip down the road from Laurieton, so we left the fishing gear in and put it on the roof racks bottom side down in stead of inverting it. It flew off at 60mph! My truckies hitches held strong though... the wind force ripped the roof racks out of the gutters and the punt soared through the air landing with a thud off the side of the road! I still have that punt - it throws a little rooster tail up from the ding on that corner! Baz
  3. I sent you a PM with link to the list of NSW ANSA clubs, or you can google ANSA and find the national site. A good local tackle shop, e.g. the one on Woodville Rd near Villawood should be able to point you in the right direction, too. Cheers, Baz
  4. Definitely worth visiting other clubs to get a handle on how things work. It would be worth affiliating your club with an association, e.g. ANSA and the association can provide advice. Google ANSA - they have a branch in Qld and there are a number of ANSA clubs in your neck of the woods. I was founding president of a soccer club 9 years ago and our district association and neighbouring clubs provided plenty of help. We formed an Incorporated club which is recommended. The Department of Fair Trading has lots of info including guidelines on rules and by-laws and also model rules that apply be default. Baz
  5. The river up around Wisemans had been very fresh for many months but over the last few weeks the colour of the water has been much less brown. It was a little saltier last week (I skied and swallowed enough when I fell to know! ). I was at the van this morning for a few hours and the water looks good. I think it will pick up. Nothing wrong with bass anyway. Baz
  6. Not for a long time. I fished it years a go and my friend and I caught and released 72 bass one morning. It's definitely worth a go. I have a van across the river form there and I will be giving it a bash this summer if I can get my boat sorted. The McDonald River also looks the goods. Baz
  7. Hi Raiders, Is there a boat inspection service available? A bit like the old NRMA car inspections I guess. I am looking for a second hand boat but as my budget is not that big I'd like to get whatever I choose checked over properly, particularly for signs of electrolysis etc. Due to my budget I will probably have to look at something like a Quintrex Fishabout Mk II, or preferably a Fishrunner, as I like centre consoles. Tinnies of this vintage may have a few issues I expect. I like these 4.3m Quinnies as I spent a lot of time fishing in them in the early 80s. Obviously I will will also consider other brands. I guess my main concern would be the hull but obviously would want the motor checked out too, Any tips on an inspection service greatly appreciated. I have done a search but when another similar question was answered it appeared to be by PM. Thanks, Baz
  8. The camp sites are a reasonable size. I camped there a couple of years ago on a powered site and we got hammered with heavy rain. The powered sites then didn't have much grass cover and so they became a torrent and a quagmire. We wished we'd chosen a non-powered site - they had plenty of grass on them and didn't look anywhere near as bad. Still, something that can be managed with a good supply of rubber camp mats etc. It's a great spot. I'm sure you'll have a good time. Good luck. Baz
  9. "Mrs Simpsons" (I think that is what is called) is a big cleft in the rock just outside around Tomaree headland. It always used to be a good spot for livies but you better check to see it's not a restricted spot. I'm not up to speed with the marine park changes up that way. Inside, if you can find the Corlette wreck, you can pick up yakkas and slimeys there. I can't help you with co-ordinates - we found it with a sounder a few years back after watching boats in the area for a while then sounding the area early next morning. You can get a few off the co-op wharf too. Good luck. Baz
  10. I just might try and get there Bruce. I miss the days when I used to fish with St George regularly, although it's a bit of a hike for me these days. Cheers, Baz
  11. $30 joining fee. $70 annual adult membership fee. They have a website. Google is your friend. The late Gary Chapman was a member of St George & Sutherland Shire Anglers. I used to read his articles when I was a kid. They were always fairly well represented at the ANSA comps. I fished with St George sportfishing Club. I can certainly recommend them (they are also cheaper at $35 pa I think) but SG&SSA would be closer for you and they have a club house. Cheers, Baz
  12. You can fish the beach for the usual species. Look for the holes and gutters. At low tide, you can cross the spit and walk out to the island and fish the rocks. You can also fish either side of the spit. Just be careful not to get caught by the incoming tide. At the southern end of Fingal Bay, there is a small park called Barry Park. People go there to watch whales. There's an easy track down to the rocks and there are a few nice holes and reasonably safe areas to fish. I have had reasonable success on bream and pigs here. When I stay at the Fingal caravan park, it's a nice handy place to fish before breakfast with the family. If you're keen, there are tracks further south and you can walk around to some steep rock platforms that look like they drop into deep water. I haven't bothered. but should one day. Years ago, around this time of year, bluefin used to frequent the area, right into the Port, so you never know your luck. Good luck and tight lines. Baz
  13. Looks like a good day was had by all. Unfortunately, I didn't earn enough brownie points... Or more likely, I used them all up! As it turned out, we drove to Nowra to support one of my soccer club's teams in the Champions of Champions and cheer on our friends' kids. It would be inconsiderate of me to wish that they didn't win the Grand Final so tyhat i had that weekend free, wouldn't it?! I will get to a Fishraider social one day! Baz
  14. Some nice fish there, mate. Well done! Just one thing... the top trout is not a brown. It would be a rainbow - still a nice fish. Baz
  15. Another great capture - in the LAND BASED GAME division, perhaps? Definitely a keeper and not to be released, at least until she is ready to swim on her own. Congratulations - life as you know it has now changed - for the better! Baz
  16. Lake Lyell followed by a detailed report, so I can decide whether it's worth me heading up. I really need to try that fly rod I bought! Baz
  17. Tan, I recently I had a large timber deck (approx. 48m2) and pergola built. Steel posts, treated pine joists and bearers and merbau decking boards. We are very happy with it. You're welcome to come and have a gander sometime, if that helps you make your choice. Baz
  18. Salmon make good fish cakes. I'd rather eat a freshly caught fish than one bought from a shop, most times. I have also had a salmon cooked whole in foil in the oven, in an Asian style - very nice! Baz
  19. Sounds like a good idea, Pete! (I have been watching this thread with interest). I'm planning to spend a lot of time at Wisemans from late September, so am hoping to finally get to know how the area works! Hope I can get my boat situation sorted out by then... Maybe one day, I can hook up with you and you can give me a few pointers! Baz
  20. Doesn't matter. Looks liek the boat's gone. Baz
  21. Thanks guys. Gotta see if the boat's still available yet. Bottom line, I guess, is if the price is good enough, don't let lack of power trim turn me off a boat. Baz
  22. Thanks. I'll check it out. Baz
  23. Hi, Can you add power tilt/trim to, say, a 40hp Johnson and roughly how much would it cost? I saw a 4.45m (I think) fwd control tinny for sale near where I live the other week but ruled it out because (1) it didn't have power tilt/trim; and (2) I thought the would freak! Anyway saw it yesterday and told me about it this morning, reckoned it looked good and maybe I should have a look at it. She said the price was $2900, so I think it has been dropped a fair bit and is much more affordable now but I would really like power trim eventually. I can't remember the brand but think it was a Stacer or Allycraft or similar. So, can you add power trim and roughly how much? Of course, I just drove by to have a look at it and it's not there, which means it's been sold or is out fishing (fingers crossed). Thanks, Baz
