  1. 1) Is there a proper boat ramp? Someone told me there is only a beach boat ramp where you drive across the sand. YES. AT LITTLE BAY (NEAR HALIFAX CARAVAN PARK) THERE'S A GOOD WIDE (4 BOAT?) RAMP, JETTY AND PONTOON. THE SHOAL BAY RAMP IS ACROSS SAND. 2) Where I will catch any YFT or Kingies at the moment. DON'T KNOW. CAN'T HELP. SORRY 3) Wether it is worth the hassle of dragging a two ton boat all the way up from Sydney this time of year. I will probably only get a day and a half of fishing but will do it if it is worthwhile. NO. LEAVE IT AT MY PLACE AND I'LL USE IT IN SYDNEY! HA HA! SERIOUSLY THOUGH, WHY NOT TAKE THE BOAT? THE PORT IS A GREAT PLACE TO FISH. One thing I recommend to anyone interested in fish/fishing... go to Fly Point and have a snorkel at the top of the tide. Feed the fish with bread and you will be amazed at the mullet, bream, whiting, flathead, blackfish etc. you will see! You can't fish there by the way. Baz
  2. Ray, Does this help? I might have a manual somewhere. I think it goes to the left of the spring on the right. Good luck. Baz
  3. At north Narra rocks, I found cabbage and a type of green weed (OK, I know cabbage is green but you know what I mean!). The bloody council stings you for parking though! The green weed was short and I thought it was a bit slimy. Across from the caravan park just near the shore, I found a small amount of regular green weed that looked quite a bit bitter. I only grabbed a bit as that's all I needed. Baz
  4. Well, I found some weed but I couldn't find anybody fishing for blackies... so I drove around to a number of spots and just took my chances. No luck. I will really have to get to know this area as I wasn't really sure what I was looking for. I then tried behind the Woolies car park but the rain set in and made it pretty uncomfortable, so I grabbed a Subway at Narrabeen and then drove home to sunshine. Go figure! Still, I enjoyed the couple of hours out of the house and my Kombi had a good run. Baz
  5. Justin, How did you go? I was planning to go this afternoon (Sunday)... but it's raining out west where I am. What's it like over that way? Baz
  6. Nice fish, Ben and a lovely spot down there on the Georges it is, too! I'm jealous... on Friday, I was looking out my window at work in the city, south to Botany Bay and the Georges River. It was a beautiful day. "That's where I should be!" , I said. Baz
  7. I'm hoping to head over to Narrabeen Lake and re-initiate myself back into the fine old art of blackfishing. Haven't fished for blackies for years, so I will be like a newbie again. I also don't know the area too well. Roberta and Luderick59 have given me a few tips on where to get weed etc. I'm hoping to try and get some weed from the rocks at low tide, then try somewhere near the caravan park, I guess. So, if you see an old white VW kombi with a rusty roof, I guess I won't be too far from it. Come and say "Hi" and you're more than welcome to join me! Cheers, Baz
  8. I just bought a Jarvis Walker Black Queen rod this evening. Here's hoping I can christen it on Sunday at Narrabeen! Baz
  9. Hmmm... left-handed casting? S'pose it'sworth a go! Baz
  10. Thanks. Got a fair idea then. I'll have to book a day down there, too. Baz
  11. Hi. I'm new to Fishraider and not exactly sure of my availability on the 28th yet. However, can I be put down as a tentative attendee? I thought I might head over and just fish the shore along Lady Robinson's beach or off the groynes. It would be good to meet a few members. I have to see how my shoulder handles the casting after a recent shoulder reconstruction. Thanks, Baz
  12. Good effort, Howard. Was that up in the lake proper or down near the entrance more. No specifics needed. I'm only familiar with the Windang area (and that from years ago). Thanks, Baz
  13. As I am desperate to get back into fishing after a long hiatus, I'm hoping to get a bit of time on Sunday to try my hand at fishing for blackfish in Narrabeen Lake. Never fished there before, so it will be good to check it out if I can. If I can't manage that, there's always the option of trying for a dreaded carp closer to home. Baz
  14. I think my first "own" rod as a kid (i.e. apart from split cane hand-me-downs) was a Jarvis Walker Bonnie Doon. Did the job for me! Baz
  15. You can also get good luderick in the river, or at least you could when I used to fish there as a young teenager (many years ago!). I remember a week of school holidays there when the seas were up and we bagged out (OK, before bag limits!) on big blackies that came in from off the rocks. Good luck. Baz
  16. Wow! I don't remember Stormboy I think Les was the first St George member who took me out in his boat as a teenager. Either him, or Bill Fraser in Pelagic and Les crewed as well. Les's boat at that time was a Clark centre console and we fished Botany Bay and just outside. I later fished with Les and Peter Talbot in Slug a fair bit - provided plenty of berley there! Some of the best days fishing I had in those smaller boats, with Bill Harvey in Quinkan, Ron, Greg &/or Mark Finney in their Haines c/c etc. Must catch up with the old gang! Baz
  17. Thanks Stewy, We probably did cross paths at SGSFC at some time but I can't remember a "Stewy". Did you go to the 40th Anniversary dinner a couple of weeks ago? I couldn't make it. It was nice of them to send me an invite, seeing as I let my membership lapse. The ANSA Nowra convention was always one of my favourites, as was the Port Stephens convention. I also used to frequent the Wyangala and Burrinjuck conventions but we are really talking early '80s. I actually still like to fish ANSA line classes etc. but I've just about given up on the 1kg! Baz
  18. Thanks Ben, I know that area. Used to ride my bike there too. (A long time ago!). Cheers! Baz
  19. Hi. My name is Baz and I am a fishaholic. But I have been "sober" for a long time now, which really means that I've been in a fishing "hiatus" and haven't really been fishing for a long time! As a kid growing up in Mortdale Heights, my grandfather who lived at Oyster Bay used to take me fishing at Como and on every family holiday wherever we were. He was a good fisherman and taught me a lot. We moved to nearby Peakhurst and once I got my own wheels, I fished whenever I could on the Georges River or Port Hacking, rowing my De Havilland punt (because I didn't have a motor), or the beach at Wanda/Green Hills. I sometimes fished 3 or 4 times a week! I joined St George sportfishing Club in about 1979 after reading an article on ANSA by Ross Hunter in a fishing magazine. Hi Ross... long time no see! I got into the ANSA scene for a number of years and used to fish every ANSA comp plus the club weekends and used to have a great time. The St George guys were a great bunch and put me on to some great fish and taught me a lot! I must get along to a St George meeting or outing again soon! I chose the username "Berleyguts" because I had a bit of a reputation in the St George club in those days for providing plenty of "self-generated berley", even getting seasick at the ramp once! On the few occasions I've been offshore in recent years, I have had no problem with mal de mer, which probably is because I don't party as hard as I used to! I spent a few years in the mid '80s hitchhiking/backpacking around Australia and overseas and fishing became something I did less often as I found other interests. But I chased crappies, walleye and large-mouth bass in the States, trout in Canada and pike in England. Although I fished less, fishing has always remained my greatest interest, even if it just meant reading about it! I returned to Australia in 1988, got a steady job (I'm still with the same organisation) and in 1990 I married and moved out of the St George area to the western suburbs. When I was 10-20 minutes from the water I found it easy to fish whenever I wanted but out west I began to not bother if it meant driving for an hour or two only to find it was blowing a gale when I got there... Poor excuse I know! When my son came along, I had less time on my hands and found that I only fished on the annual family holiday "before breakfast". Those holidays have occurred less often as my son has grown older and we find ourselves busier. I started a new soccer club when I moved to Quakers Hill 8 years ago and that has kept me rather busy ever since. I was playing Over 35's soccer in June when I fell awkwardly in a tackle and was carted off in an ambulance. Ouch! A shoulder reconstruction ensued and while I was off work, I had lots of time on my hands to browse on the computer and found my way to the Fishraider site. The pin was removed last week and all looks good, so I am looking forward to getting back into some fishing soon, as I envisage that I will have a bit more time on my hands. Earlier this year I bought a 1974 VW Kombi and this is my other passion. I hope that the Kombi will help me fish more often as I can sleep in it overnight rather than drive back home tired. We'll see! I still have the same old De Havilland punt that I sometimes cart on my box trailer. I now have an old 6hp Johnson outboard but it is a long-shaft motor and I really need to get a short-shaft motor. Living in Quakers Hill, I guess the Hawkesbury, Narrabeen Lake and the Northern Beaches are handier than my old haunts down south but I don't really know the northern waters very well at all. So, if there's any Fishraiders who can impart some local knowledge, I'd certainly appreciate it! I'd probably like to focus on estuary fishing, particularly luderick (never really focussed much on the blackies), beach and rock fishing but I'm too old (48) to be climbing down cliffs on ropes and stuff. I am also interested in chasing bass on the Nepean and trout at Lake Lyell and in the Oberon areas. And possibly even the dreaded carp nearby where I live (apparently). Anyway, that's enough of a rant for now. I look forward to reading and learning more on the Fishraider forums. Cheers, Baz
  20. Is that up near Soily Bottom? I haven't fished that area for many years, since I moved out west. Haven't fished nearly enough since I moved out west, either! On Sunday, after visiting my Dad at Penshurst, I took a drive down to the old Lugarno ferry. When I was a kid, I used to ride my bike down there (and push it back up! ). I was pleasantly surprised to see the "boardwalk" and area there for fishos. Well done! I used to get a few luderick from the rocks along there. Haven't fished for blackies for years. I've got a bit more time on my hands and you've prompted me to get back into it. Thanks! Baz
  21. Hi Glenn and Slinky, I'm a new member but have been "lurking"and reading these forums for months now. I've never deliberately fished for carp before but seeing that I don't get much time to get away to fish these days and live nearby in Acacia Gardens, I just might give this a bash soon, just so I don't go stir crazy! Thanks for the tips! Baz
