  1. Sounds to me like you have caught few of the Rats that have just been released from the Kingfish study that has taken place in the harbour. I was advised that they had several fish caught only 10 mins after being released. Preliminary results from their study are great, with only 2 or 3 fish passing away from the sample that was taken. Great to see where some of our fishing licence monies are going wrinks
  2. Appologies Pescatore. Didnt mean to snap like that. Just a little annoyed with the Shark thing at the moment. Just want them to be left alone. They have done nothing wrong, they are just doing what they have always done, and that is, feed. Sometimes we humans get in their way. We are seeing more of them as a result of the massive improvement of the water quality over the recent years, and the better management of the fisheries. Just dont see it as a reason for anglers to start catching them, then cutting them off with a mtr or so of wire left hanging out there mouth. They are a magnificent beast, and one that i admire. Wrinks PS if you are after the elusive Jew, You can expect plenty of shark hook ups and bust offs. Just makes that big Jew that much better when you land them.
  3. May i suggest that if you are wanting to "snare a big Jewy" that perhaps you should be using Jew fishing methods and techniques, and not ones specific to catching sharks. Wrinks
  4. Be patient. The fish are there. Had two rods smoked yesterday. and two 90's + rats today Wrinks
  5. Just prior to reading this post, i called Waterways to lodge a complaint about the lack of Navigation lights. Not by power driven vessels, but the Kayaks, and surf ski's. I cant tell you the amount of these guys and girls, that are out on the water without any navigation lights. The ones that do have a white light, have it placed so low, that it cant be seen most of the time, or it is only visiable aprox 180 degree's. Its only a matter of time before an accident happens. If your leaving Roseville at 6am, pls be extra carefull, they are all the way from the boat ramp to well past Middle head. Wrinks
  6. Was that you retreating back home at slow speed, umbrella aloft Wrinks
  7. Wouldnt know, only use live squid.
  8. If by chance you do come across " fresh Squid " If they dont have green eyes, they are not fresh
  9. Alot of my mates compain about not catching anything, Then i see there gear, and the answer is looking at them in the face. Most of my bottom bashing in Botany, syd harbour, and pittwater is with 6 lbs max, Too many blokes man up with the 12 lbs lines, but thats just too heavy in my mind perhaps fish light with LONG leaders. Wrinks
  10. had a report from a guide today that they had a tiger shark at the boat at balmoral. Not sure how long ?? but they did say that it was 1 mtr wide at the head
  11. Nice effort Squid were indeed tough today, but we managed a few. Was smoked by 2 fish and landed 3 x 75's and some rats nice to see some better fish around.
  12. have just got myself a "buff" bit like a balaclava, but lightweight. The only place i'm getting a little sun now is a tad on the cheek. and the cream does its job there They are so good, have just ordered another 2 Wrinks

    Ice

Tried the ice slurry once with salt water, and of the 6 Corona's, 3 froze and the lids popped, lost a few of the good ones. Have a better esky now, and a bag of ice will last 5 days to a week
  14. Happy new year all. Question ?? Berly up on wrecks or not ?? For me, its a BIG no no. Seems to me that the only thing the berly brings on is the peckers and the beloved leather jackets. Nothing worse that dropping a few live squid, to have there heads and half the tube nibbled away. Does anyone agree ?? or am i the only one that believes berley on wrecks simply promotes the loss of good bait ?? Wrinks
  15. Great to see Fisheries out and about on the water today, jumped on board and had a look around, and was all good. Also glad to hear that they boarded one vessel, to find 13 undersize kings, and the fisho wasnt licenced either. Giddy up !!!! Thats a very $$$$$ Xmas for them. Wrinks
  16. I have manged squid from almost every public wharf in pittwater, having said that, i dont spent too much longer than 20 mins, and then i move on to the next spot. works for me
  17. the inkers are in pittwater in numbers at the moment, although small after there breeding season. as they are small, you will need the smaller jigs ( the 1.8s ), having said that, i the largest i use in the 2.5's Have a crack at the nth end of Currawong, and the kelp beds at west head. we have been doing well in those areas. Wrinks
  18. i do know it, but wont be posting it over the net for the 1000s to mob the place. I'll let you know when i see you next jack. Wrinks
  19. There is a few around, my biggest has gone 90cm, most around 70 to 75. As usual, the pro's will do there best to net the schools to reduce the pittwater population.
  20. Appologies for bringing up old ground, that was my 4th or 5th ever comment on the site. As for wrecks ?? i wish i knew where they all are. I am aware of only 1 wreck in pittwater, which IS in a safe anchoring area. however have never anchored there due to the calerpa taxifola weed that is present in that area, and appears to be moving sthward towards bayview at a great rate. Oh, hats off to the fella with the long anchore rope. The minium recomended length of anchore rope to be used, is 3 times the depth, 8 times is the ideal length to give the correct horizontal pull so as to hold correctly and not damage the bottom, and i might add is well away from any wreck, and causeing any damage to it.
  21. I'm likely to upset a few people here, but i've raised this subject due to my being continually annoyed with the down rigger brigade. Firstly, i know that not all DR peoples behave like this. The behaviour in question are the boats that downrig coming within 10 - 15 feet of your boat. ( have had them closer than that too ), and seem to think that this is ok !! You wouldnt ( I wouldnt ) arrive at a location and drop the pick this distance from another fisho, so why do many of the down rigging guys think that its ok to pass this close ?? I have now had 3 down riggers bombs around my anchore rope, and upwords of 10 of my lines being tangled with the downriggers. All i'm asking for is for the boats to pass at a greater distance, perhaps the length of a decent cast, say 50 or 60 feet. Wrinks
  22. My dad and i could never work out why 4 of our traps had 3 to 5 blueys, and the one trap with the flat head in it NEVER had anything in it. We tested our theory for weeks, and the same result every time. It was some years later when gutting a larger model flatty, that we found 2 small blues in the belly. It was then that the penny dropped. Wrinks
  23. Have to disagree with you Iceman, Big flatties love to eat small blue swimmers, So the crabs grow up being scared of the flatties. If you have to use the flathead frames, make sure that you remove the head. but if poss, stay away from using the flathead. Any old fish frame is good, and the trusty cat food tin as well Wrinks
  24. Back in my youth, i'd be dragged down the the sailing club to watch my older brothers go sailing, good thing for me is that i could go for a fish off the wharf. Back then, my father would cut me off a hunk of Craft Chedder Cheese and that was the bait, and it really worked well, heaps of bream, and leather jackets and other odds and ends. My question is, has anyone else tried cheese, as i havent since i was a lad ? My father said, its works because if the bait is small and round enough, the cheese represents roe. Any thoughts ??? Wrinks
  25. They are still around, although the numbers have dropped off a bit, I've noticed that the breeding cycle has definatly begun, have had several enounters with the 10 to 20 babies that are not even an inch long. Was out on Thurs last week, managed 7, and it did take a good hour or so to muster the baits, that ended up as dinner. Will hit the water on Wed early, so will see if things have improved at all. wrinks
