    Online Shopping

Mate, mate, mate, good timing. I just found this mob in Queensland - Holy smoke they are cheap and seem to be a nice small family operation. I have bought a Shimano Tekota 600 for my old man for last Xmas. I bought it locally (Northern Beaches) for $350. Good price compared to ALOT of places. I love the reel so much I'm buying myself one too. I LOOKED EVRYWHERE!! I rang ABA (site sponsor) and they can do even better deals (approx $280). I was put onto a website www.Wellsystackle.com and they send you a really good catalogue (they haven't got an online shop as yet). I bought a Tekota 600 today for $269!!!! Almost $100 cheaper than most places. All their stuff seems really cheap. I promise I'm not affiliated with them at all and actually suggested thay could advertise on Fishraider as they mentioned they don't get heaps of sales from NSW. Hope this helps you all to get a bargain. America is cheap but by the time you get shipping it ends up the same as getting a really good deal here (may as well support the local guys!!) P.S I also strongly recommend ABA. They are also very helpful and of course a site sponsor - and they do have comparatively good prices!!!! Dicounts for Fishraiders! Kingy
  2. I'm a simple man with one goal JEWIE
  3. I put the rods in the garage and shut the door - simple and effective! I try not to get salt water on the reels. They will get a little wet from reeling in wet line and spray, but as long as you don't get salt water into the internals, they should be fine. I give them a light wipe over every now and then, and some WD40 on some of the moving parts. Service once a year. I've been told not to wash or soak your reels and chance pushing in salt. just wipe the excess salt off. Soaking your spool might be alright to remove salt from the line. I think SAND is the reel killer (excuse pun) Hey Trev - I really admire your committment to caring for your gear - but your MAD!!!! (in a nice way of course) K
  4. 6lb line and a kingy from a kayak, thats great! Yeah, I saw a kayak out from the Basin in the middle of Pittwater on Friday just after lunch with two guys in it - was this you yellow sub? I see it quite often (unless there are heaps of guys doing it these days) The missus took me out for my Birthday on Friday - caught yakkas and had to give em away - the got sick so the jewies got another week to live. Tried to get some squid jigging over west head and west side of palm beach (over the ribbon weed) - Nothin. I need to earn some more good karma
  5. I've been doing a very similar thing for the past several months and i'm yet to hold aloft my jewie. Good things come to those who wait and don't go mental in the interim! Hang in there harold I'm sure it'll happen soon, otherwise I mihgt strat groiNg mEnTil *&*&@%$@^&&$%%^#^(*!(!$":?<@%$>%@#
  6. Nice report!! How were you fishing? Live baited under a float or downrigger trolled? Little monsters aren't nice at all!! If he hadn't snapped you off, I'm sure he would have tried rubbing you off on any mooring rope he could get to. K
  7. I still haven't had much luck from SP's , but I think the first time I ever used a Rapala CD I got a fish, and they continually produce and they last forever - (until you get cut off by some knob jockey flying past your stern) Therefore RAPALA CD's Note: I would probably get sued by Rapala for endorsing their product if they saw me fish - therefore safe to assume I am not sponsored Any dummy can use em!

    Trolling

In pittwater I troll CD's (7 to 11) at 4 to 5 knots and they swim beautifully (and catch heaps). Try slightly twisting the metal bib with pliers until you can get them to swim straight while in the water next to the boat without popping through the surface. Send one back 5m (in the wash) and the rest behind the first, some to the side of the wash, some in the wash. This works best for me, I got 30 nice size tailor in about 2 hours total fishing time last weekend.

    Longreef

I live approx 400m from the ramp and I've seen some serious damage done to boats in medium to large swells. Also a few cars slip into the water. Good to have a 4WD and a light boat, bit a luck and no swell - mwah mwahh mwwwwaaahhhhhh - you'll be alright!!
  10. Yeah pags, really easy to make and real teaty (easy/quick too)!!! 3 or 4 nice size tailor fillets cube up and put in blender (take skin off if you wish - to much trouble usually) blend to paste and add 2 tbl sp chilli sauce (not sweet chilli) small handfull of coriander thumbnail size cube of grated ginger 1 tble spoon Cumin 1-2 tble sppon of your favourate curry powder (or paste) 2 tble spoon lemon juice salt if ya want approx 1 cup of self raising flour mix all together Shallow fry in oiled pan for 1 minute each side. Then, place fry pan into oven (or put fish cakes on tray) at approx 200degC for 10mins. This will help the flour rise and make them light 'n' fluffy Note: before putting in pan, consistency should be a little on the wetter side. Flour will soak the rest up as it's cooking in the oven. I'll be damned if these aren't better than the shops! Play around with different ingredients and amounts to vary your fish cakes. Nice way to enjoy those fish you sometimes don't like eating by themselves. Bon appetite...............................................................................ohh and don't forget the K
  11. Maybe a flare gun accidentely aimed at his petrol tank next time tsk tsk I shouldn't be so nasty
  12. Went out for 2 hours on Sat (10th) and 3hrs on Sunday arvo and bagged 15 Tailor each time (mostly around the 35cm mark with 30% going 40cm). Once you find them, you got as many as you want. Awesome fun on light gear. Just turn around and go through em again and again! One num nuts in his fishing boat flew past our stern and tore off one of my lures ($20 rapala) and spooled most of my line! If only I had my sniper rifle (are sarcastic death threats still death threats???). It wasn't half obvious we had 4 lines out trolling, no respect! Sunday arvo was nice once the wind died down a bit (and western side of pittwater was very calm and protected) Thai fish cakes mmmmmmmmmmm
  13. I was out Pittwater on Saturday (10th) from 4:30pm to 5:45pm on western side and didn't see any sambos but bagged 15 Tailor on the troll in 1hr. All good size mainly 35 to 45cm. Awesome fun by myself with a couple of bibbed minnows out the back. Couple of good fights on my 6lb gear!! Several triple hook ups got the heart pumping
  14. Had no idea it was such a touchy subject, let alone existed!!! - you guys are freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaks
  15. Thanx guys, very interesting!! I'll be taken a few with me so when I don't catch anything I got something to blame
  16. Where did bananas on boats come from and what is the proper "tale". My mate told me this a few months ago that it was bad luck to take bananas on boats and I told him where to go (I will dutifully now swollow my words) I just saw a post with someone referring to this so it must be semi commmon knowledge?!?!? DOES ANYONE BELIEVE OR FOLLOW THIS BALLONEY??? sgot me fascinated K
  17. I did a bit better than last weekend (no fish in a day and a half of fishing) on Pittwater etc. Sunday, got a nice tailor on the troll up Pittwater with my bibbed minnows and then 3 nice Trev's on squid from North of Lion Island. Nice day out there and some fish hanging around Lion Island in the lee of the wind. A few other throw back reef ooglies and boat next to us got a few Port Jacksons. Nice day all up!! Cooked up nicely for Sunday lunch mmm mmmmmmm.
  18. Someone (preferably everyone) please run a lead from your house to the water put a couple of kettle elements in the Hawkesbury/Pittwater and heat the damn thing up....please! Spent approx 15 hours on the water over the weekend and a small chopper and some yakkas for bait is all I got to show for it!!

    Plans Are Afoot!

holey blurters Jo, no grab rails??? My centre console would be death without something to grab when I hit a wake of a cruiser or big chop at speed! Do you have velcro on your shoes? What does everyone hold onto - their life jacket and an EPIRB
  20. A day and a half Jo??!!?! one full day, and then half the next!?!?!! If you went fishing for a day and a half I'm quite sure you'd find some LB. I'm not talking squid either - I suck at squid, just yakkas from west head - my 3 year old sister (if I had a sister) would be able to catch LB at west head. The simple west head equation is: burley+small hook = LB K

    Plans Are Afoot!

I thought nearer the centre line would create less sway - if a boat is rocking from side to side the outer extremeties (the gunwales) are going to be moving up and down a lot more then the centre as this is closer to the axis of movement. Great idea!! I was thinking the same for my centre console, but I think if I drilled one more hole into mine, it would fall apart - go for it!!
  22. Got my new 40hp Merc 2 stroke 3 cylinder on Friday and was sooo excited to play with my new toy I forgot to spend ANY time with the Fiance. Sat 3pm to 9pm Ran the motor in a little, got to West Head, picked up some livies went over to Juno for the run out tide till low at 8:30. Coupla livies out, coupla fresh squid, coupla hours, coupla hot teas. Not even a nibble on my beautiful baits! Packed up at 8:30 and headed in. Sun 9am to 6:30pm Big day, big plans. Trolled 3 bibbed minnows and one white slug from Longnose point to Soldiers in Pittwater finding several largish schools at 15ft and gave them ample chance but they weren't interested. Flint and Steel for 1hr for the run in. Anchored just behind the point (SW side) 60ft deep hole to sit in the eddy for some lazy jews, nothing. Moved to Elanours bluff for a while, nothing. Moved to Shark Rock Point for several hours, nothing. And when I say nothing, I mean, NOTHING. I had pilchards, prawns and squid out on my light rod everywhere and it wasn't even looked at (i was burleying too) Popped in to Cottage point for something to eat and $28!!! later got 2 pies and 2 sausage rolls and a cuppa tea!!!!! (I think they saw me coming) Bout 4pm went over to Potonga way and drifted for an hour for flatties, that's right, nothing!! At 5pm trolled all the way back to Scotland Island and tha smallest little tailor nailed a CD-7 red head halfway between Lion Is and West Head. Before I threw him back I told the little brat that him and all his finned mates sucked, and I'd be back next week with grenades, depth charges and a small nuclear devic to teach them all a lesson! Nice 1.5 days on the water though - and the new motor puurrrrrzzzzz!!! 1.5 days of fishing and one small tailor So I'd like you all to be brutally honestly - How much do I suck? (On a scale of 1 to 10) Regards, (sorry, I'm too embarrased to tell you my real name right now)
  23. If I'm using yakka's I put a 6/0 through it's back about 1cm below it's skin (try and miss the poor guys spine) and in front of it's dorsal fin (if I'm bottom fishing) If I'm floating them (for king's) I hook em the same but 1cm BEHIND the top fins (near tail) - this apparently keeps the fish swimming down and stops it sitting on the surface. If your in a high current area (hawkesbury road bridge) the hook through the mouth helps the fish swim better and prevents hooks damaging the live bait (pulling him sideways with the current) Hope these tips help you - they don't really help me!
  24. I've found that Rapala CD-7 and CD-9's work really well. Caught most of mine on the red head colour (red head with white body) trolling at around 5 knots. The second treble on the CD's adds points to help hook them, while the metals only have one treble (more likely to throw hooks?!?!!!!?)
