  1. This is just a massive tease!!! I can't really make it out to Pittown and I wanna go to ALL those talks!! Can't some clever bloke set up a webcast of the event and even maybe charge members a dollar or two for covering any associated costs??!??!?? I keep missing the kingy an jewy talks they've had at fishouttawater too. Or maybe some northern beaches gurus can talk somewhere?? Hey Ken - I know you know fishing and you got a computer - how bout you do a web cast for all us FR'ers of some of what you know?? comoooooon ken, I'll buy ya a beer and courier it up!! I'm just desperate to learn more! Kingy
  2. If I had to guess I'd say that fish weighs more than him! Nice fish
  3. Yeah I reckon 30lb braid main line and 50 to 80lb leader. That way you can turn em eaesier and hopefully prevent them busting you up around the wharf. good luck! Kingy
  4. I reckon it's a good chance it's a king. You've had quite a few bust off's. you got heavy enough gear for the kings?? Not trying to muscle the kings with your bream stick are you? Good on taking your old man with you, I almost always fish with mine too (he owns half my boat) Next report will be a photo with your first King!!
  5. I got a Fuji Finepix S7000, 6.3 megapixel with x 19 zoom in an SLR body. Takes movies as well (only in 640x480 though). Got awesome features for the price. I prefer normal sized cameras that have proper lenses on them. You can get 8 Mega pixel camers in really small cameras but the lense size does them no justice. I had a sony mavica with the floppy drive storage. It was bee's knee's back in it's day. It had resolution of 604x480. Yeah you can get 15 Megpixel cameras for mega prices Kingy
  6. After speaking with Netic about downriggers, I started searching the web. I found this!?!?!?! Has anyone used one, or know if they work?? Is this an "only in America" thing? And wouldn't it increase anodic decay of aluminium boats with the extra voltage/current put out?? I'm intrigued, I love gadgets, but is this a bit silly? the link is http://cgi.ebay.com/Scotty-Black-Box-New-w...1QQcmdZViewItem I can't copy/paste the photo from ebay from ebay.com ""This NO RESERVE auction is for a brand new Scotty "Black Box" No. 1201 without box or instructions. This is the original and still the best Positive Voltage Control device (not the cheaper Pro Troll copy) that has been used by commercial salmon trollers on the west coast for years. It allows you to create a positive ion electrical field around your boat through the downrigger cables thereby allowing you to dial in the correct voltage for whatever species you are targeting. It includes 3 extra No. 1210 wiring harnesses and stainless steel contact sleeves (No. 1210) that I purchased in addition to the Black Box (which only came with 2) so that I could connect all 5 of my downriggers. This unit came with my boat when I bought it but I never got around to installing it. Happy bidding! Features: Controls the downrigger cable voltage in the productive fishing range of positive 0.1 volt D.C. to 0.9 volt D.C. on up to six manual or electric downriggers (wiring kits for 5 downriggers are included). Can be operated in the continuous voltage mode or the new pulsing mode. In pulsing, the unit cycles the charge on and off every 5 seconds often triggering a strike. Can run up to six downriggers with one Black Box. ""
  7. here here, too true Mondo!!
  8. Typical fundamentalist greenie tree hugger! The more he gets in everyones faces and stirs the pot the more attention he will get, the more publicity, the more things he will probably achieve. (This worked well for Greenpeace in the late 80's/90's very well.) He is an environmental extremist I consider myself a bit of a greenie (i think most on this site would too) we respect the environment and take our rubbish with us. Many here pratice catch and release (i do sometimes). So what he is saying is largely a load of rhetoric s#&t, motivated by his ill informed emotions. He's trying to make it seem like the small bad apples are the majority in the rec fishing arena. I think he should take one for the turtles and see how many plastic bags he can inhale before mulching himself six feet under
  9. I hired both Broadbill and Billfisher (site sponsors) for my bucks day on 7th Jan this year. The swell was up and we decided to have a go at some Marlin anyway. Strong 3 knots of current out wide kept us from seeing any bills, except a 5kg samon and a medium sized dollie. Awesome day though, worth the money! If I hadn't had my Travacalm I wouldn't have enjoyed it at all. I believe you should be able to ring Ross Hunter and get a spot on Broadbill up at Port Stephens. Better bill fishing up there. Kingy
  10. Saw Tezza Hill at Palmy Wharf one arvo - he was dropping back some young workers that were working on his new house he is building up the central coast. It looked like he was pissed to the eyeballs. I know he has a lisp, and it didn't seem like that that was making him slurr his words. I'm sure we'll hear more about his Lobster nickin in April when he goes to court.
  11. I've been catching poddy mullet in 3lt clear bottles at Jamison Reserve (sth side of lake off mactier st). took my tinny out on the water (using the ramp at the reserve) and drifted for two nice sized flatties in an hr about 2 weeks ago. I found a nice little drift when the NE'ers are blowing. Took about 15mins to catch about 15-20 mullet. the rest got taken home to feed my barra. he loves them. Anyone keen on catching big mullet (crazed fisherdude??) I can recommend Mullet Creek (fancy that) around the Powder Works rd area. I see huge ones (20 to 30cm) jumping at dusk when I'm catching glassies and mullet for barry the Barra. One jumps within casting range at least every minute. heaps of poddy's here too. Kingy
  12. Sorry to hear the bad luck. We started trolling from Longnose Pnt in Pittwater @ 5am and went up the west side of pittwater to west head with rapala CD9's and some plastic skirts. Got nothing all the way up and around west head so headed out around the joey and all the way down to Newport. Turned around at Newport and was starting to head home thinking it was gunna be one of those days(we didn't take any bait with us) and we hooked up to a good size bonito (approx 50cm). 10 minutes later another bonnie. Headed into Pittwater and had a quick squid jig session around the joey and palmy. Hooked up to nice looking leather jacket on my squid jig and dropped him getting him in the boat. Two bonnies BBQ'ed on open flames went down real nice at the end of the day. It was close to being a tough day but in the end turned out allright. I'll add the photos when I can find my USB lead for my camera. Kingy
  13. After cupla months off the water with wedding planning, moving into our new house (300m from narra lakes.....yeah!!!!), getting married and honeymoon. I'm back!! Going after kingies around pittwater/joey/broken bay and maybe some bonito and/or some jewies first thing Sat morning. Any raiders out there Sat morn radio in and we can compare notes.

    Hairtail

I know I will cop a lot of flack for this one, but here goes: Yesterday I heard first hand that 2 small (approx 1m) hairtail were caught at the road bridge at Brooklyn last weekend (he released them, otherwise I would have demanded a photo). He is a very reliable source, but even I find this hard to believe. I thought he might be confusing them with pike eel but apparently not. another aloof story about the elusive HT
  15. wow, that last photo of the clouds is incredible!!! What sort of livebait would you need for those orcas..dolphins?????

Good stuff, thanks Jon for the heads up. I usually concentrate on the west side or around Careel. I'll be sounding out this area tonight or tommorrow. If you see a 4.5m white centre console with blue splash guards and is sinking, say hi!!
  19. Maybe the odd jewy in that deeper channel section leeding up to the creek mouth waiting to ambush some mullet coming downstream....maybe.......juuuuuuuust maybe
  20. Mondo!! heaps of spots in Pittwater, but I'm sure your not keen on the drive up here for them. You can do a search on this site, but I can't recall any spots mentioned down your way. I'd have a guess and say up past tom's very uglie bridge on a shallow sandy flat maybe?!?!? There's heaps of guys here from down that way who'll be able to help for sure. Any beeach worming tips are always appreciated (do you use pliers or fingers to get em out?) whats your strike rate? Mines at about 15 attempts for every one worm....frustrating at times
  21. Yeah I believe you. I speared a cuttlefish a few years back snorkelling and I thought the magnification factor was playing silly buggers with me under the water (things seem bigger under water) but when I dragged the thing out, it was approx 20kg!! I had to cut the head off so a mate and I could carry it back to the car. I had no idea how to cook the think so I took it to the seafood shop nth of Narra bridge and they took the good bits off and carved it up and cooked it for us, added some chips and I think they charged us $4.00 (I think there was more than $4 worth of chips). It was o.k, but maybe a little chewy. Just wondering if there's enough to eat on the small ones and if they are easy to prepare and if they taste o.k, if they can be used for bait, if I should use it for burley, if i should have let them go, if I should stop asking questions. Kingy
  22. Caught these yesterday arvo around the Palmy area. The calamari was stupendous last night for dinner! Are the cuttlefish o.k for bait/downriggen/eating (i think i remember someone tried downriggin cuttlies). I was going to eat them, but thought I'd check with the raider gurus first. Maybe I should have spared their little lives (except the one that painted my face black). The squid was caught first cast - I was helping a mate with his knot, turned around, picked up my rod wound in and BANG - almost ripped the rod out of my hand. High tide was the go - there was a bit of wind which I thought would have put them off?!?!!? My phone is for reference size (squidy wasn't trying to call 000)
  23. Thanks guys for your help on the bait at Narrabeen Bait & Tackle (sorry for partially hijacking this thread, but I'm sure it's useful to Y2K too)
  24. squid, kingies, jewies in that order (i'll be happy with squid though)

Hey Haraka, Stokes Point South?? I thought the west side of Pittwater and a few around careel bay and Nth side of scotland were the places. I've never heard of south of Stokes?!?! Is this a bum steer or is between or just outside the moorings running south from Stokes good territory? How far South (puting along at 2knots won't get you far very fast with a downrigger)
