  2. No worried Bluecod I'll bring em down with me to the social - i'll try and bring a scalpel and a pretty little nurse to fix everyones self hook-ups
  3. Going up the central coast (bateau Bay) to catch up for friends Birthday Sat. Sunday fishing up there from either rocks or beach if I can find a nice spot.
  4. Love this thread - heated debate - passionate views - politics, all we need now is beer and we've got a pub brawl yeeeeeehahhhhhhhh Seriously though, on a slight tangent it would be great Iain if you could enlighten me on your stance when you get picked up for not having a licence. Do you fight it in court, cop it sweet? I'd possibly like to be a consciencious objector, but what is the ramifications?? I'm sure you've thought this out so your views would be good. Cheers Fence sitter for now
  5. ummm by the looks of it 3.5kgs
  6. I know everyone (myself included) at times rants and raves about the dismal ability of some institutions to forecast wheather conditions, however we've got to keep in mind the way they actually forecast. Because it's mother nature and she is female, we must deduce she is sometimes unpredictable. The way the guys at the BOM forecast weather is using historical data and models that adhere to atmospheric physics. In other words it's statistics and probabilities and variations from the forecast are inevitable. I have noticed in the past few years they seem to be getting slightly better with their models and overall I think they do a pretty damn good job. I'd hate to have their job with so many variables and dealing with probabities and very dynamic conditions so I take my hat of to them - hang on.... I don't wear a hat
  7. Sounds like you may be onto something! Test it out and get back to us. You could also try smearing tuna oil on your sp's - it stinks and would stay stinky for a while! Pretty cheap too
  8. Update: I've been busy with work, but so far this is my downrigger weight all prettied up for those kingies with some reflecting tape and a $5 skirt I picked up. I got some 80lb mono that I'll use as the wire (can't justify $90+ on braid at the moment). Just hopping it doesn't hum too much. Will be getting an alvey in the next few weeks to use as the reel to make the downrigger. I think I'll use Rekless's idea and modify a clothes peg for the release clip (in the shops $50 for one clip!!) I drilled a hole in the front of the weight and added 90lb ball bearing swivels front and back. LOOK OUT KINGIES HERE I COME I'll post final pics when I'm done and ready to go Bluecod - I have 3 or 4 more lighter weights (approx 2kgs) if you want em.
  9. I think I love you!!! Sorry, I take that back..............I like you ALOT
  10. I live at Collaroy and fish there a bit. You can line fish there no worries and the aquatic reserve extends 100m from mean low tide mark from South of Collaroy Rock pools to other side of Long Reef (to the beach I think). That means no collecting shellfish, invertabrates and other things by hand but line fishing is ok from boat or land. Launching boat from Fishermans beach ramp is o.k if very small swell (preferably with some south swell in it). 4WD is better as ramp can be a little tricky, but if no swell you should be fine (also consider if the swell has built through the day when your coming back in!!) I've seen Kingies everywhere out there snorkelling, just find a reef peak or dropoff. Snapper at 20m if I remember correctly (don't quote me)
  11. Barrenjoey SW corner of headland casting out over weed beds for squid Torpedo wharf/Taylors point wharf for Squid McCarrs creek reserve off little jetty for heaps a mullet
  12. Just to let yall know, went down for an hour an a half and walked around casting everywhere and got a big donut!! There was a little bit of seaweed floating around. oh well had a go
  13. Wondering if there is any squid at a place called Brownwater? or the Collaroy area. Theres hardly any swell and I'm interested in the location about 100m North of the Longreef boat ramp. It's a shallow protected reef area. Any good? Anyone squided there? What does everyone reckon? Thicking of getting down there in the next hour so any quick responses would be GOLD!!!!!
  14. Nice work Martin! There's some clever thinkers around here today! Do you think putting a skirt and eyes on the weight will attract them into attacking the weight instead of my squid/lure?? I think they might find it a bit tough on their teeth Crazedfisherdude: I think I know why you have 'crazed' in your nickname I'm all pumped - This thing is going to be deadly with everyones input!!!!!!
  15. I'll let you all know how I go. I'll post pics of my new contraption (if it's photo worthy) and the monsters it brings in. Any more tips or ideas are welcome
  16. Thanx djmac. Top ideas - I'm getting excited now. I might pull out an old alvey and mount it on something! I think I'll go paint the weight now woo hoooo
  17. Thanks Bashir! I might wap some lead sheeting around it or join two weights together! I had another thought - Do you think covering the weight with foil or mirrors or colours will help attract kingies to weight (like a teaser) thus to the bait?? Adapting some Marlin techniques!??!
  18. Ohhh Outnumbered I hate to see a grown man cry!!
  19. I know this has been touched on before here somewhere but got an idea I thought I'd pass by you guys for some help/information/tips. I've got a 2.5kg long steel timber sash window weight that I picked up thinking it has potential for a downrigger weight (it's a good torpedo shape!). I want to put together a cheap home made downrigger for some Pittwater Kingy's. Can I use this?? I was thinking the torpedoe shap will sway around down there imparting good action on the squid or lure?!?!? I was thinking of using a heavy duty handline with 20lb Platypus super braid (which I have heaps of) as the downrigger wire connected to this sash weight and connecting a clip at the other end of the weight to clip on to my main line. *Will this work? *Am i a loser for thinking it will? *is 20lb braid enough? *How much do you think should cost? Clips I should get? *How much downrigger braid will I need (thinking 50ft is heaps)? Attached a photo of the sash weight for you
  20. Sunday morning for squid and kings hopefully - even if I get one of the two I'll be pretty happy - might try setting up a home made style downrigger sounds fun
  21. Same rules as going to the pub really - you can take girls, but be mindeful of what everyone else wants/expects!! "It's a fine line between pleasure and pain" (Yes the quote is from a tacky song) My girl comes out if it's just me and we have fun just the two of us. If I take a mate out, it's a blokes day - No girls!!

    Which Sounder?

I bought a Humminbird Matrix 67 which includes: 500Watt dual beam transducer (thin and wide beam) (power to go to 1500ft!!) GPS receiver comes with it Plotter and takes MMC cards of any area in the world for easy navigation Speed/Temp Heaps of other little great functionality - however it is only black and white - with really good resolution! In Australia approx $1800 incl GPS receiver In America (shop that uses Ebay) $650AUD DELIVERED!!!! I can gaurantee you you won't come close to matching that price for the functionality! I highly recommend it although you have to buy a seperate MMC card if you want, which I didn't bother and it only reads in Feet and Farenheit which doesn't worry me I know this is not in your list, but thought it was worth mentioning if you want awesome functionality at a crazy price. Let me know if you want the shops name and you can email them for a price or check out ebay if they are listing these at the moment
