  1. Hey mate, to be honest it took us quite a while in the tinny, apparently the flood gates were still open when we were out and that probably accounts for such a hard flow. It depends where you put in form however, i'm pretty sure the place we were fishing was called Erskine Creek, not 100 % sure though. You should look it up, it's about half way in between the gorge and the dam wall I think. Goodluck if you go out.
  2. This thread is crazy! Surely have to be in the record books somewhere?! Great info still coming in after 4 years! Thanks for the good read boys and girls
  3. Sounds good, thanks heaps for the advice
  4. Thanks, i'll be sure to check it out when I hit the tackle stores
  5. Haha yeah was saving for schoolies and then decided that I'd rather go fishing up at Darwin for a week (paid by the parents) Sounds like a good combo espescially cause I will be able to use it when i head up north and go for some Barra. Cheers for the reply mate.
  6. Thanks mate I'll be sure to ask around to check out the twinpower, and yeah I was thinking a Gloomis rod, they've got the flexibility for plastics whilst still holding alot of power. Cheers for the reply.
  7. A little bit late but nevertheless, a report So about two weeks ago I headed out on the Nepean with my cousin and dad after hearing reports of trout spread throughout the river after the release of water from Warragamba Dam. We were on the water at about 7.30-8 and reached the gorge within 10 minutes in my cousins tinnie. As the river got narrower, we realised just how water was being released as the water was hammering through!! Deciding that we would stop for a quick flick into a little cove, I hooked up a decent bass on my cheap, pink Tassie Devil lure. The bass was released and after a few more casts we decided to head further up the river towards the Dam wall. 20 minutes later saw us find a nice creek running into the river and the decision was made that we would head up it and hang around for a bit of a flick there. Due to the fast flow of water and rocky terrain, it was hard to get right up the creek. However, using his crafty control skills my cousin managed to manoeuvre the boat with the electric and position us in a spot right in between two large underwater boulders allowing us to cast a reasonable distance down and upstream. So ten minutes of solid cast and retrieve I finally hooked up again on that Pink Tassie , after first calling it for another bass, it made a jump and to our hopes it was a solid little Rainbow Trout! Got it in, had a few more casts and decided we would explore the river up even further. So we were hoping to get right up close to the dam but to our dismay the water was raging even harder than what we had experienced before and it was decided that we would take the safe option and head back to the stream we had fished before. We spent another half an hour flicking various lures around the stream to find Dad pull in a ripper Rainbow and me pull in another a little smaller than my first. Deciding we better get home we started the journey home and about 250m away from the ramp we run out of petrol Luckily we had the electric to take us down the final stretch. Overall it was an extremely successful day on the water, we went out to find some trout and we did just that. Even though we didn't catch a thousand fish I was stoked to get my first trout, and even better that it was done in my local waters. Cheers, Ryan
  8. So I've been saving up for something only to find I don't need to anymore and have been left with about $750 that I want to spend on an outfit for Jewies . Sure i'll probably use it for many other species but this outfit will be used predominantly for flicking plastics and hardbodies for Jewfish. Any suggestions as to which rod and reel combo's go good for around that price?
  9. Thanks for the replies guys! i forgot to mention that all my mates are gonna be 18 and i'll be 17 at schoolies... I've decided to go up to Darwin, not only are my parents paying but I have about $800 saved up that I can now spend on a bit of fishing gear. I guess ill have to leave the partying for the clubs of Sydney once i'm 18 haha
  10. Wow looks awesome up there! I'm contemplating whether to head up to Darwin for a fishing trip or to Gold Coast for schoolies when I finish my HSC and seeing these kind of posts is making the decision easier and easier.. Besides Barra fishing what other species are good to target up there?..
  11. So for the last month or two i've been saving up for the end of my HSC exams when I will head up to the Gold Coast for 6 nights of solid partyingv . however just recently the opportunity to head up to Darwin for a fishing trip has arisen and it's either schoolies or fishing... I know for most people on this site this would be a no brainer but I was wondering if anyone here has had any previous experiences fishing up the top end and would like to share? would help me decide
