  1. This is one of my pet hates too. Another one is where you make a big effort to get to a land based spot and a boat comes and anchors within casting range right in front of you. They have the freedom to go anywhere they want but whereas your land based opportunities are very limited. Makes you want to accidently cast a big sinker at their boat.
  2. Whats she complaining about? The seats down.
  3. Take my word for it. The company I work for is involved in the construction.
  4. I have no idea about the fishing in this river at the moment but what I do know is that there will be fish ladders constructed on the existing wiers for about 100km of river. Construction should be finished by the end of this year.
  5. This months Fishing Monthly still has an advert for HiTide. I guess it was already paid for. But whats the point.
  6. I went down too. It was great to be able to relax and fish while the kids looked after themselves on the jumping castle. Also picked up some free line, power bait plastics and jigs. Only problem was the lack of fishing action. As an enviromental exercise though it was not a real success IMO. About 2 or 3 carp come out of the river and about 50kgs of bread and rubbish , including some of the free rubber gloves ended up in the water. I reckon they should ban the use of the burley next time. Far more bread goes in the water than the carp would hope to eat in a month.
  7. You can get big plain concrete pavers , about 600mm square. Might be cheap , quick option.
  8. Be wary Tinniegirl. Some crooks will try to rob a place again once they think you've replaced all your gear with new stuff.
  9. Good to see you got something off the seal. Usually its the other way round.
  10. You might have had points deducted for giving the judges a rude sign.
  11. Just thought I'd pass this sad news onto fishraiders. http://www.adventurebound.com.au/
  12. Well deserved ! I like these jew stories. They are better than the ones where someone catches one in the middle of the day on a rotten pilly , on bream gear.
  13. Great catch. But think how many you could have caught without that banana on your boat.
  14. There are about 2.2 lbs to a kg. 40lb = 18kg Pretty close. 50lb = 23kg not so close
  15. Thats not the same boat is it?
  16. mmmm Kingy on dry fly. Now that would be something.
  17. Your'e right , very stupid. Our collective gene pool is being weakened by these cretins. Hundreds of years ago they wouldn't survive to reproductive age. I once saw a similar thing. A bloke was skateboarding down a hill with a toddler in his arms.

    Hi Raiders

Good Luck with the new arrival fishrunner. You'd better hurry up and catch that jew though. I'm betting you won't be getting leave passes 3 times a week for the next few years.
  19. All this mess does not help the fishermans cause. Add to the list of gripes: 1) Dead fish , scales etc littered all over the place to rot (just throw them in the water . How hard is that?) 2) "Number twos" - find a toilet.
  20. Pretty sure that line guide thingy will be slowing your line down. The reason overheads cast further is the that the spool is spinning at the same speed as the line is coming off. Therefore there is nothing slowing the line down. Thats the theory anyway. On a normal threadline there is a small amount of friction on the lip of the spool that will slow the line down. Having said all that there are some great threadlines (with "long cast" spools) that will give overheads a shake. I've got a Diawa Emblem Pro (threadline) and I reckon I can cast further with it than my Abu Ambassaduer 9000 (overhead), although I haven't tested it. The main reason being that with a threadline you can give it heaps without worrying about backlashes.
  21. That is amazing stuff. I imagine once you learn how to interpret the pictures it would be a very powerful tool. The fish won't have anywhere to hide. By the looks of it you can use it in conventional sounder mode anyway.
  22. I'm also looking to buy a 1000 or 2000 size reel. You guys have got me interested in the Penn applause. But I've also noticed the Penn affinity for a liitle extra. Anyone got any thoughts on these? Are they worth the extra coin? (I note they have 8 bb's instead of 5)
  23. Don't wish to get into any catch and release debate or anything, but if there was ever a case for catching and killing a shark this is it. A large , obviously resident, bull shark is not what you want in the Harbour. I personally don't care because I don't swim in the harbour. The angler released the shark but that fact seems to be lost in the frenzy. What I don't think is good is the extra attention recreational angling will now get from the animal lovers. It all seems to me that it was a media setup which will earn the angler some publicity but at what cost?
