  2. crosslands. i think there is some alright freshwater flicking down there
  3. i find using small screwtop microwave containers are great - I've had about a packet and a half worth of gulp turn into bullets unexpectedly from the default ziplock bags breaking on me. I've tried using the stiff plastics but have had no results. Do you reckon they are still worth keeping or should i just give them the slip
  4. great sites! (probs cant mention specific ones) the one i checked doesnt have lengths, but i suppose once a fish reaches a certain size it stops getting longer and starts getting wider i was amazed to see the record weight for tiger flathead was 2.9kilos, one i was going to buy was a total of 34 dollars @ $13.98 a kilo.. that means it was about just over 2.4 kilo, up there with the biggest do the areas where the record fish have been caught generally produce bigger fish, or is it a one off usually, if so, i wanna head out to georges river, and camden haven river edit had a look at banded parma, theres no way mine was half a kilo, but still worth a mention as its afew cm's bigger than the "max"
  5. i'd assume there would be better things to do on a honeymoon than go fishing. if you know what i mean but otherwise i am sure there is accomodation at bobbin head
  6. hi all, after occasional discussiona bout world record fish, i wonder where to access all this information my ucle has caught a 5.5lb bream which at the time made him third best. the guy who gave me a flathead said he had the number one record for bream, 8lb. this was probs a fishermans tale but if it wasnt, awesome! so to reiterate, is there a website with all the fishing world records, not just fishraiders
  7. my mum says that in the channel that goes to the power station at morisett there were tonnes of mullet, youd get a fish a cast, on unweighted bread. this was 29 years ago
  8. i'm finding narrabean lakes and lower cowan to be very sparce. i havent gotten anything worth keeping for weeks
  9. just curious where do you get these brag mats anyway
  10. great report there are great flatties near the leases and inbetween the two islands near the bridge will be heading up there again soon, cya
  11. gday all, small change of plans, no longer going to morisett, now going to woy woy apparently a great flatty spot inbetween woy woy and tascott would love to know where to get nippers in the woy woy area any advice much appreciated
  12. yeah was told about that. do yiou mean the exposed sand flats at low tide? do i go when they are fully exposed? i walked across them for about 20 metres in 15cm deep water and trod on a baby flathead poor little guy. i love the first bay around the left. its abit of a btch to get to but its generally worth it apparently my uncle and his friend won naming rights to it, but in maps its still called no name bay umm.. is it worth trekking to the next bay - the one inbetween waratah and no name. In my fishing encyclopaedia it says its a well known breaming spot. my uncle caught a 5.5lb bream in it cheers for the advice and hopefully you'll get back to me cheers, Dave
  13. thanks mate. the flathead that was given to me was caught down in the creek if you go up the arm that goes underneath the apple tree bridge. will try get some nippers as when someone gave me some in that area it was almost a fish each cast. afew good bream, a whiting and an awesome LJ I'll go to that place you talked about and try me luck cheers for the advice and good luck fishing
  14. i wouldnt talk about that on here but yeah i guess its a good research program if they get more people doing it it would be interesting to know the results of it
  15. Gday all Late report, Last three times in my fave estuary, bobbin head / apple tree bay have been terrible all have been at the wrong tides as have decided to go along with fam in a hurry first of three times of late i was round bobbin head and was watching schools of mullet looking around 30cm burleyed with bread, put my hook out and WHAM! here come the ducks. one almost ate my hook so i retrieved and dangled the doughball under the jeti, then woosh, a 27 cm LJ comes and grabs on. as soon as i put him on my tackle box to measure him the hook falls out.. lucky i guess. Put him back in as i don't trust LJ caught near storm water / possible sewerage pipes i move up to apple tree bay, no sucess - well a small bream, but thats all after reading up on my fishing encylopaedia from the 80's i get in the mood for a fish again. so last saturday i think it was I head down to apple tree bay. although i knew the tides were bad i went anyway as sometimes you never know your luck down there. first time using soft plastics and BAM a tailor which was only around 15cm struck my nuclear chicken 2 inch shrimp. didnt give him time to fight but maybe i shouldve as it would turn out to be the only fish on for the rest of my outing anyways whilst down there, i got talking to a good bloke on a one month work leave. he gave me some great advice on soft plastics and where to get some flathead, and much to my surprise and my belly's pleasure, he gives me a 45cm dusky cooked it with butter and lime, this was great but the aftertaste was bland, but still i am happy for what was given to me tonight went with my good mate hamed, no luck as the tides were bad but this was the only convenient time to go. had afew bites and hamed got a tiny bream, but nothin good enough for the table. after a quick friendly encounter with a kind skipper bringing in his boat, he gives me his disappointing (to him) catch of a 27cm bream, 32 cm snapper, and a 50 cm jewie although these past three outings have been somewhat disappointing i still can't wait to get back out there. thanks to any of the guys giving me the fish, heres some pics btw this should be in fishing reports, sorry
  16. i find its good to have the line omn spool soaking in a bucket of water when you reel it on. this generally stops the twisting and tangling
  17. wanting to get a second rod for heavier game right now i have 2-4kilo ugly stick with penn reel would wanna get a 6-10 kilo rod and reel any suggestions i saw an ugly stick with this line rating in a supermarket which is against the rules to identify. i would prefer an ugly stick, what reel should i go for that would be avail. in one of these retail shops
  18. the good old tree go near the bridge and cast out towards the boats. bream, whiting
  19. some good tips in the sent PM it all depend on which fishing area is easier to get to, its up to you
  20. k, picked up pump today from ******, will use it ASAP
  21. haha very true mate especially for me because im 6 foot 3 @sammyK - thankyou very much
  22. i go there often. it's called chindel's bay do you mean on the sand flats which are exposed at low tide, or near the rocks in the end of the V of the bay thanks for advice
  23. Hi all, Going to pick up a nipper pump in a week or two, need to know if there are any nipper beds in the cowan creek (lower hawkesbury) area. more specifically near bobbin head and near apple tree bay ive used some nippers before and the results are explosive, i have a burning need to get some more of em
  24. YES. near the jeti you can put bread near where you are sitting and simply scoop them up. Last school of them i saw was huge. i put lots of bread burley out and an area of about a metre squared was packed with them. you couldnt even see the water through this area leave some for me though
  25. Id say its a spinefoot. In the Aus Fiaherman's companion (can i say the name of the book?).. "Capable of rapid colour changes" "..grows to about 35cm" "Handle with care and avoid the spines" Now it says about 35cm, that doesn't necessarily mean it won't grow to 40 or so cm, but its rare Id say it's a spinefoot or otherwise known as Stinging Bream, Black trevally
