  1. deep water is the key lure them in with live baits once they attack your live bait do the old switch a roo to a big squid jig we had some monsters attacking our livies last weekend off broken bay some of the biggest squid i have ever seen pulling 2-3kg of drag off my reel
  2. nice boat and even nicer location is that a ramp in there backyard what are they asking for the boat ??
  3. very jealous John time for a RDO im going jigging i need my fix
  4. nice table of fish there i thought it was another one of PeterS posts from seeing a round table covered in flathead well done on a nice haul of fish
  5. nice choice of reels u have there did u also upgrade to the JMdocking set?? for mechincal jigging 4:1 is ideal i jigged with a highspeed overhead a few weeks ago and couldnt get the rhythm going the rod and jig just wouldnt get into the right action the leather jackets didnt seem to mind but for my style of jigging 4:1 is the only way to go
  6. scrap that idea new plan im going to sell off my garmin and replace it with a big old lowrance 2 separate units on my dash is too much and i would never get around to wiring them up to talk to each other keep a eye out in buy n sell for a cheap garmin finder/plotter with fuel sensor
  7. what about the Raymarine A57D soo many choices
  8. im leaning towards the lowrance being the gadget freak that i am i no down the track i would like to add the sidescan when fishing with BillyD he has a HDS5 on his boat and i was very impressed with how it performed and the resolution of the screen killed my little garmin (i blame Billy for making me upgrade) i also like the fact that its NMEA2000 so i can easily add a fuel sensor if needed and link it up with my motor once i win the lottery and decide to upgrade just need to go and check out the Furuno and see how it goes i do like all the easy tweaking you can do to them alot less button pressing then on the lowrance i have a boat place next door to work that stocks both so ill go have a play at lunch forgot to mention tho i fish out to around 120mtrs most of my fishing is inshore mostly in the 10-70mtrs
  9. my little garmin combo just isnt cutting it for me any more so i want to upgrade at the moment i plan on keeping the garmin as a standalone gps im tossing up between the lowrance HDS7 and a Furuno FCV-620 max depth i fish is around 120mtrs i can source either unit for around the same price i have used the lowrance before and i like the units but the Furunos seem to be pretty popular too i want a big easy to read screen with as much detail as possible is there any other unit i should be looking at ?
  10. a sargent baker that needs a tan ??
  11. cool photos i would of thought the noise from the side scan would of scared them off might of been what bought them to your boat
  12. there great value for money what reel did you have your eyes on don't think you would be able to get them serviced over here tho Alan Tani has done some tear downs on some of there reels if you want to see what there insides look like ive seen the VS-10's for sale over here for around the $240 mark looks alot like a avet reel but a hell of alot cheaper omoto vs 10 omoto jungle 5000
  13. nice work great fun catching fish on jigs but if you plan on eating any of those fish its best if you bleed them on capture
  14. the big schools come in around september through to the end of january October last year was great fun spending the day throwing metals and chasing the fish around
  15. congrats on your first king the first one is always the hardest good work landing it on the light gear i need to get me some kingy
  16. just did some quick searching online and info im looking at is sayings its from 1979 Year 1979 Length 30' - 9.14m Beam 3.2m Draft 1.2m
  17. i have had this happen a few times in pittwater as said already drop down to your light outfits and fish unweighted baits you want your baited hook to sink down at the same speed as the rest of the burley it it sinks faster or slower it will look abnormal and the kings wont touch it ive also had luck dropping a knife jig down and jigging while they are around the boat
  18. starting to look a little better keen to get stuck into some kingys tomorrow regardless of conditions should be able to find some where to fish inside pittwater
  19. go the trinidad and pimp it out with a jigging master handle damm sexy reel
  20. i use a iphone hope to get rid of it soon when the new windows 7 series comes out Steve ill show you a setting on the phone that tricks the website into thinking your on a pc and shows u the full site instead of the mobile version (jailbroken phones only)
  21. you can pickup wireless routers these days for around $70 and then get a usb network card thats supported by your mac then u just need to plug the cable from your broadband into the back of the router then it will enable your new laptop to connect to the wireless and you can then stick the usb dongle into your desktop mac and it too will be able to connect to your wireless a usb dongle that will work on a mac will cost around $70 one such usb card is the Netcomm NP745N
  22. 6.2:1 is way too fast for jigging for kings you want some thing in the 4. range for your budget a good reel would be the Daiwa Saltist STT50 this is 4.9-1 which is more suited for jigging should be able to put a good 3-400mtrs of 30lb on there they go for around $290 and if you dont like to lay line there is also a level wind model STT50A-LW they go for around $320 you want slower gear ratios for jigging as you will be fighting fish on the bottom not on the surface and you want and need the power to pull them up off the reefs as for lever vs star drag this is more of a personal choice i prefer lever as i can just look down at the reel and now what my drag is set at with star you dont really have an idea the advantage or a star drag over a lever is that when you have the drag up tight on a lever drag reel the handle also becomes harder to turn compared to the star drag reel which will turn as it would be no drag applied if that makes sence all comes down to what you prefer to use my overhead combo is a jigging master power spell PE3 its a lever drag and its gears are 1 :4.0 its perfect for jigging for kings its very light and has a ton of power little over your budget tho
