  1. In a tinny that size I would go for a tiller steer. You will end up with more fishing space, probably save 5k and not have to worry about servicing your steering. I have the same size boat, a 420 dory and have run it with both a 30hp and 40hp. The 30hp was fine but the 40 does the job much better if you have 3 or 4 adults on board and it can even pull a wakeboard out with 80kg bloke on it.
  2. brilliant, just what a bloke wants to hear before he flies to england for a month.... good effort

    Engine Type?

Think the above is very good advice. I have a 40hp 2 stroke on a 4.2 tinny and on a big day would only use 20-25 litres. Takes a very long time to make up higher purchase costs in fuel savings and I think that simple 2 strokes will be cheaper to maintain long term. It would be a different story if you were talking about a 150hp on a big glass boat you were going offshore in, but for most small tinnys I reckon simple 2 strokes are the go. All the brands are good but tohatsu dont have as good after market service for warranties etc. Go a 30hp I reckon.
  4. There were a lot of boats out fishing for not many tuna caught... Water didnt look too flash out wide.
  5. Hi All, I am taking a couple of non fishing mates out in my 14ft tinny on the harbour on saturday arvo. I've talked it up a bit and would really like to get them on to something big enough for a feed or at least something that puts a good bend in the rod. Will probably only be out from 2:30 till dark. Was considering doing some trolling, maybe south from the heads as I find this an easiest way to get non fishos onto something that looks a reasonable size. Not sure if there has been much around though?? I know the harbour well, but due to other commitments (including marlin fishing ) have not been out for quite a while. I am looking for some inspiration on what to try and a heads up on whats been biting from any of you who have been lucky enough to get out lately. I figure that the water is starting to cool and there will not be as much activity as there would have been a couple months ago. Thank you in advance for your replies.
  6. Ill be out on Sunday as well, very intersted to know if anybodys been out too?
  7. If the budget is an issue had you considered selling the 15ft c/c and with the proceeds purchasing a late model 13 or 14 ft tiller steer tinny? The smaller tinny would have the bonus of being cheaper to run and probably quicker if you were otherwise going to put an older model 35hp on a 15fter.
  8. Where you guys out on Sunday anchored not too far from another boat in around fifty something fathoms off terrigal? Think we trolled past you about lunch time. You did much better than we did...

  12. What has the insurer asked you dad to do next? I would ask them to provide further details.
  13. Hey All, Arranged to get out with a mate tomorrow morning but am struggling for ideas and a game plan. It's much easier in summer when there are plenty of kings to be had etc. Have not fished the harbour since the water has cooled down and not too sure what will be around. We usually launch from wharf road on parra river in a 4.2 tinny (without electric) but I dont mind driving as far as upper middle harbour usually but I notice that the wind is going to be up quite a lot... As for fishing style, gear etc we do a bit of everything... So the million dollar question.. if you were me what would you try tommorrow and where???????? Where is a good place to get out of the wind!!! Maybe the best idea is to go to the pub tonight and sleep in...
  14. Was to be fishing on murrifin, but alas she's having a fuel pump fixed. Good luck to all fishing.
  15. Nice work and shame about the king Where did you get the slimys??
  16. Thanks craig, interesting to see it from that perspective -i'm on the rod in those shots. If you have any others, it would be great if you could send them to me. Cheers
  17. Yeah that was the one- late sunday arvo. Love to see any photos of it if you have any. Ben
  18. We ended up tagging 4 for the weekend. We lost a fifth when it chewed through the 250 leader after having on the trace twice and missing a couple of tag shots... I had to work early monday so opted out of the dinner and whatever else. Am sure the boys would not have had an early one sunday and would be likely culprits for the noise.
  19. Shame that we didnt get over to you in time. Would have loved to have seen the fish and helped you guys out with the tag pole / curved ended tag pole. Well done on your weekend, sounds like your braining the blues.
  20. Alurah ended up winning it. Can't remember if they ended up with 8 or 9? In A Meeting came second I think. Top weekend, the weather was amazing and the fishing pretty good too. Highlight for me was a double hook up on stripes, both on switch baits last thing sun arvo.

  22. Sounds like its firing up there. I'll be up next weekend, hope its still good.
  23. Hi, Fished wide out of pitwater on Sunday. Got my biggest ever dolly (9kg). Later in the day I had an ever better dolly take a coachroach in shotgun intended for a marlin. This one went 15kg and made a reasonable account of itself on the heavy gear. No marlin caught but we did find loads of dollies getting a couple more over 11kg. At one stage had a great double hookup late into the arvo with the seas up and boat backing into the swell! Have some photos I'll download in the next day or so. Bloody cracking day.
  24. Great fish, well done. I think we were next to you at one point when you were at the marker at clifton. We were the blokes in the open tinny not catching much...
