  1. thanks for the responses guys. gave it a tow round sydney harbour and round the headlands outside for a while on sunday. Out of the 4 lures out, it was the only one not to get a fish. The skirt and two different size bibbed minnows (around the same size as the pakula) got around 3-8 tailor and big slimies each. Agree with the fish that the action didnt look that great...
  2. Hi Guys, Got sucked in by the newest marketing and bought a couple of the 140mm Hybrid Schooners in Evil Angel colour to give a run this weekend. Will probably troll one with the usual lures around the headlands of the harbour. Seem to have good quality solid hooks and look tasty to me... Hopefully they go ok. Anyway, has anybody tried these yet? Any luck? Cheers
  3. Great effort and congratulations. What type of lure did you get the Kings on?
  4. Have the identical boat but with a quintrex label on it. I regularly take it to and out the heads in sydney harbour and have never had an issue. As the others have said, you just pick your days. Don't think i miss many opportunities to go out because the days that are not safe in mine would not be comfortable in a bigger boat.
  5. there is one shop in vila i know of that sells fishing gear. For the 10% you save duty free, you would be far cheaper to by it in Australia though... Vila's not a great place for shopping. If you have time go out to the islands and do some diving/snorkelling or the charter as already suggested.
  6. I'd go for the new option. It's a nice feeling knowing you have a new boat (to customise with time) but more so to know you have a reliable new outboard you know the history of. I've got a 4.2 open boat. There a bit rough but a brilliant alrounder and great value.
  7. In my experience its always worth sending a well worded letter before paying a fine in such matters. Most of the ones i have been involved in drafting have been successful. In constructing your arguement, look very closely at the wording of the ticket and the offence and respond accordingly.
  8. Well done Netic, what a mission! Also nice to meet you the other week at the King social. I preemptively replaced my plastic holders with stainless on the tinny! Since doing so, I dont think i have had a big hit from them!
  9. Well done .............. AGAIN. One day for me.... perhaps...
  10. I have the same hull in (lighter) tiller steer format with a 40hp on it. You probably dont have the same ass heavy issues i have with my layout, but i still think 75 litres is too big. It would be a very big day to go through anymore than 40 litres in my opinion. I reckon your 35hp would really struggle with 5 people plus 75 litres of fuel. My 40 feels just adequate when i have got 4 people on board. Space may also be an issue for you..

    The Big Day Out

Wow, what a great day the kingfish social was!!! I will firstly apologise for Ralph who is yet to post on this topic. He does not have reliable internet access sorted at present, but I understand he will have shortly. What I can say is he was absolutely blown away by the fishraider crew and by the great prizes donated by our generous sponsors. I have known him a long time and was even best man at his wedding. The smile he had all afternoon on Sunday was bigger than I have ever seen him have (including numerous previous fishing firsts, his wedding etc). Ralph is spooling up the spheros with 50lb braid and is absolutely pumped to go and put a dirty big bend in his new favourite rod (damn its nice!! We will be going out to try and find some hoodlum kings shortly… As for the day, we started off at Wharf Road boat ramp around 4:15, made the run out to Clifton where we were met by Swordfisherman (whose enthusiasm at that hour of the morning was unbelievable…). As the sun came up we attempted to get some squid. Managed to drop one but after about 30 mins with none on board we decided to try for some kings… Our strategy for kings which has worked well previously was to drift unweighted squid baits down a burley trail. We tried this at the drums at Clifton initially and things were looking quietish for a while. The fact that we were using squid purchased from the local seafood shop (although surprising fresh looking) did not inspire great confidence… After about 40 mins, Ralph was discreetly relieving himself over the side when he suddenly jumped quickly and grabbed his rod (cheapish shimano barra style low-profile baitcaster outfit with a drag that was shagged). After an interesting tussle with loads of finger applied drag he eventually boated the 65cm model. I promptly told him that it was a good fish but would have no hope of winning the day… Anyway a while later I got a 60cm job which was good fun on a lighter outfit, dropped another and Ralph pulled hooks on a larger one… It was getting increasing hot after this and with good squid running low, we tried a few spots after this half heartedly and made our way back into Clifton. It was great to meet everyone, have a good feed and a chat. Sorry we couldn’t stick around long after the presentation, however I had to rush Ralph back so he could go to work. Thanks to all sponsors, organisers and everyone who attended. Greatly looking forward to attending the next social!!
  12. I have had more hits on shiny divers similar to the cd-9 and cd-11. Trollcraft is the brand i usually use. These bibbed minnows ALWAYS seem to outfish the varying skirts i fish alongside along the headlands.
  13. Cheers Guys, still have not made any decisions... Can probably wait for a little longer... Keen to hear the heads up on the twinpower's performance
  14. I use a mobile bloke called Roys Mobile Marine. Have only had him do general services but i have found him pretty good.
  15. Thanks for your thoughts guys.. I think i was dreaming a bit with 50lb braid... 30-40 will probably do it i reckon.. Your spot on with the website too... but i didnt post it! What are the CRBB- are they corrosion resistant bearings? How important do you think they are? I have looked at the twinpower also and thought it looked a pretty good for the money.
  16. God, I hadnt heard. Always got really good service from Rudy and his prices were good also.

    Noble Is Coming!

Looks fanstastic- what size is it? Anyway by the look of it I think it is far too big to fish within 10 miles of the harbour. I think you should go a LONG way offshore and leave some kings for the rest of us hopeless buggers...
  18. Hi Guys, I am considering purchase of this reel as a christmas present for myself... I wish to run 30-50lb braid on it and want it to fill a gap in my gear between lever drag overheads on strokers and 4000 series reel with 20lb braid (which i have been well dusted on by kings). SPECS: Ratio : 4.9 Weight : 470g Max Drag : 9kg Line : PE(braid)30lb-400m BB : 4/1 I hope that it could be used as a general livebait, troll, spin, jig (probably in that order of use) oufit my boat matched with a fairly gutsy approx 6 1/2' rod. I suppose my questions are: 1) Do you think this reel will cope with fishing 50lb braid hardish (i suppose mostly on kings) or am i asking too much of it? 2) I have heard it is the same or very similar to the capricorn 4500J- does anyone know? 3) Any other better valued reels (this one can be bought from Japan for less than $120 incl delivery)? 4) Do you think i need to bite the bullet and spend more or up to a larger size spin reel? Appreciate your thoughts...

    Whats This Fish?

I was on a houseboat on the hawksbury last weekend. THe inbuilt front esky was converted to fishtank/livebait tank. Without a bilge pump we were relying on bucket changes to keep the water fresh. This got forgotten after a few beers... Anyway the tailor and yakkas died however the trumpeter was unstoppable lasting the two days and eventually earning its freedom!
  20. I will be in with boat and probably a deckie or two.
  21. well done- how did you troll the yakkas? towards the surface or on a downrigger? I also did the south head run on sat morning trolling 9 and 11cm bibbed minnows. Landed two kings of 59cm (bugger!@) and got busted off on the reef twice by what i was pretty sure were kings. Were a few salmon around also, we landed one whoppa which was really fat, over 70cm and went like a train. We had no luck on a freshly caught squid or yakkas in middle harbour or the wedding cakes.
  22. I can see some merit to the arguement about running a rod a line class up in certain circumstances. I think it is worth thinking about, when you want to fish the line class to the limits. For example I have some 24 kg outfits (one of which is a backbone) I run with TLD 25's with 30lb and 40lb line for kings etc. With this type of fishing, you tend to head for sunset (with thumbs as well) to prevent kings getting to the reef. When doing this its nice knowing the rod has the balls to handle it. However in the main, I agree with the line class matching the rod. When trolling and fishing normal drag settings (ie 5kg) the 24kg rod does not feel great and i wish i had something softer.

    Pride And Joy

Darren G, Love the look of you 460 dory. I've got the 420 and its a good boat, but yours lis that much deeper and bigger... I want it!
  24. I dont have a jig outfit, but if the charter operator can sort this I would be keen.
