  1. crazy. you are the coxs river trout guru.
  2. My old man knows a old bloke (60 maybe) called Spiro that lives out at Port Pirie somewhere on an olive farm. He fishes at night for monster kings and does alright. Last time my old man saw him a few years ago his last trip was 5 hookups, 4 bust ups and 1 king to 40kg. Also pro fisho/ charter operator from down Cape Jervis way does alright on them around late march / april when the mullet start to run. He trolls dead mullet and claims that the fish avg 15 kg. Gotta get back down to South oz, maybee next Autumn after the heat when the nice stable weather patterns start and before the rain and make a stop off at Port Mac for SBT.
  3. Cracking king. I used to live down in Adelaide and would spend my weekends sitting on the end of the rapid bay jetty with a live squid on a baloon for nothing. Then oneday i was at another spot just near there and a bloody 2 meter fish just swam past me and ignored my squid. Never fished port pirie or port agusta. Did you get the jew on the downrigger?
  4. I was in the area this morning and went down to the new park (ballast point). As soon as I got to the unused wharf at the bottom of yeend street the kings ambushed a heap of small bait. It was chaos for a good 20 seconds then they went down. Stayed for another 40 minutes but didnt see them again.
  5. Those are some big bastards. They are still catching fish in South Oz, TAS, VIC. Do the bluefin comein close here like they do down south (inside the shelf 50 - 100 meters) My local sushi shop is selling SBT sashimi (toro) at $6 per slice or $28 for 6 slice, and a lesser cut at $4 per slice. Going up for a taste tonight. Never eaten it before nor have I ever seen it on a menu in Australia except for Nobu in Melbourne and Rockpool Bar and Grill in Melbourne let alone a suburban sushi restaurant. I hope its worth it. Any one up for a charter out of Kiama?
  6. seems to have fired up out of bermi with some midsized and rat fish coming in.
  7. Fantastic info wrinkley Do you work for fisheries or related. I know of one spot in the harbour that is still holding hoods though.
  8. If you havent been to 1770 its a must. Long way to pull a boat but doable for a 2 weeker. Set up a camp in pancake creek 10 miles north at Bustard head. Pull dead baits for spanish out the front. Little marlin out the front as well and pick your days to head out to the reef. Can you say mud crab. Bustard Head land based fishing for Macks, Longtail and GT. Fish a few spots on the way up and back.
  9. My mate fished up there last year in closed season and released a bunch the naughty chap. Megalong valley area.
  10. Pros. An empty harbour on week days. Fishing around the tides with no arvo sea breezes. NO need for early sesions. Bigger Kingies (though this summer has been insane) Cons. Getting a cold wet butt when paddling out to the boat.
  11. The operator who ran out of brunswick heads 10 ks or so north of byron has given up chartering and become a pro. He was without a doubt the one of the best operators on the east coast. You may have better luck out of ballina however the guy I used there was cleaned up on the bar a few months ago and is now out of business. I beleive there are other operations out of ballina. Further south again the evans head boat is very good though it is bottom bouncing trips to deep water, not trolling live baits etc. The gold coast has charters and plenty of them but again bottom bouncing etc unless you want to hire a game boat. Best to call around and see what you can find out if going up there.
  12. 14 days of mayhem. Sounds totally insane. Good price too, seing as other trips want 7 plus for a week. Not this year unfortunatley. How do you get your fish back to Sydney?
  13. Going to pittwater and will be out on the tinny for a change with my poor mans down riggger and a bucket as a live bait tank.
  14. I like to use my big bait runner with 30lb braid. Let the fish eat your livie reel well, spin the handle and its a hook up. Smaller fish will go down to my 3500 bait runner. Bigger baits will score bigger dollies. Also like to use my biggest bait first for a wide slow troll around the fad looking for the biger fish or a beak, not using a bait runner for that.
  15. I had a new transducer fitted down at the marine electrition at Rozelle / Blackwattle bay last Thursday. There was a very large yellow bouy in there that looked just like it. Im sure it will be re deployed at some stage.
  16. saw a big one on the surface in pittwater 5 or 6 years ago, same day saw a free jumping marlin at bjoey. Think it was just after christmas.
  17. Pin them through the back, small hooks and set drag, leave in the rod holder.
  18. Down in South Oz they catch big ones at night.
  19. You will find jew on Tallows. I havent caught them however I have seen the frames lying in the sand from the lucky buggers that have. Right up in the northern end. Catch tailor and put it out live. The north Wall at bruns might be worth a shot after all the rain. I caught lots of chopper tailer at Belongil on pippies in october. Be aware of the marine park gestapo.
  20. Fishing the rivers like Daintree etc can be a waste of time in August, water is cold and the fish are not on the chew. I would head offshore on a charter for trout and reds, or see if there are any light tackle / mackerel trips going.
  21. A few weeks ago I saw a fishing show on tv where they fished stocked dams outside of bangcok. Not what you are after but i remeber the name of the lake IT MONSTER LAKE. Heaps of very big fresh water fish. Looked real fun and a certainty to catch. Amazonian and asian fish and Barra.
  22. I always put my reels in my hand luggage when traveling, along with my camera and any other valuable eletronics. Bags go missing all the time, stuff disapears. Cant take hooks or lures though. Have also taken a 2-4 kg 2 piece rod as hand lugage on a domestic flight as I didnt have any safe way of storing it. Light weight PVC is the best for other rods. Tape them shut so they are tamper proof.
  23. AVET all the way. you can get a avet lx 4.6.1 magnetic cast control reel for 299 us at the moment. While it is a little over you budget its a killer reel and can take a beating.
