  1. Gday mate and to the site. Try the area around fig tree bridge, it holds nice whiting, bream and flatties theres also the occasional squid and poddies. Some things to look out for are snags and stupid toadfish. I like to fish to the right of the bridge and cast into the middle of the river near the sandbanks, the second half of the rising tide seems to be a good time to fish there. Bring a beach rod to go for jew and to be able to cast out far enough. Light gear works well here with heavy sinkers resulting in many snags just use enough weight to hold ground if u have to. For bait u cant go past live squid but if ur not lucky enough for the inkers to come by then live tube worms and live nippers are very effective. Good luck and remember the water in the LCR is very suss, I havent eaten anything caught from fig tree yet. Simmo
  2. Its a pike eel for sure, they have a silvery blue tinge when caught at night. the eels that tie themselves in knots are moray eels. Most eels caught in the Hawkesbury such as pike and short/long finned eels dont do the knot escape mode, which does work occasionally (lost a massive moray atleast a metre and felt about 3-4kg in the harbour). 3. definite herring, check this link http://fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=38121 . been catching a lot recently in the greenwich area. Simmo
  4. the biggest breams I have caught have been on set and forget, unweighted gang-hooked whole pilchards. however live worms and nippers get more consistent bites. Simmo
  5. It was good fishing with u to see u in action the other night Jim, even though there wasnt any massive ones around. Thanks for the adviced on Jews aswell mate. Cheers, Simmo
  6. I like the new idea but i reckon Jew should be after King not vice versa.
  7. Mate I fish that wharf sometimes it produces good tailor and big flatties. But ive never seen such an impressive jew there! Very well done!
  8. I think thats the most ive laughed at a post mate so sorry to hear about ur poor fishing excursion lol, and its really sad that ur tiny cod hadnt fully matured better luck next time guys lol, Simmo
  9. Welcome to the site, and bad luck on the lack of bites at CG. Mate there are plenty of good squid spots and the Mosman area holds heaps. I have caught plenty at Neutral Bay wharf, Mosman wharf, High St jetty and Musgrave st wharf just to name a few.
  10. Slinky, I told u im gonna get something u cant identify, still looking! willn, I was using 8 pound line with 20 pound trace, no sinker and a size 6-8 hook. bait was small pieces of chicken.
  11. Went to Clifton Gardens yesterday with a mate. Got there at low tide round 4pm got a good position and got stuck into it. I had gone out the night before and caught a nice squid, cut it into strips and sent it out. Went to catch some yakkas on the other side of the wharf had 11 in the bucket in about 10mins, all of a sudden I hear my name yelled out and see my mate waving frantically at me. Thinking it was a kingie I ran back to my rod, by the time i got there i could see it wasnt a kingie and it didnt have any fight left at all still a pb trevally for me at 45cm, I look annoyed because I was barely involved in catching it Things went quiet for a while after the trevally, my mate caught this odd looking thing which looked like a whiting/flathead any ideas? As it got dark my mate left and the tide starting coming up. I hung around for a while longer the jetty got absolutely packed. This legend I met showed me how to rig up to catch slimy mackerel and I was soon having fun on light gear with them. ended up with 7 slimies from 30cm-37cm. Another guy near me got busted off just before I left by something he described as monsterous, it snapped his wire trace Always good to get a new pb and a good day in general. Cheers, Simmo

    Fish With Goatee

a friend caught this at clifton. any ideas?
  14. The silver bottom fish may have been a tailor or mullet they are quite common there. As Josh says the flounder is delicious, if u catch a larger one try making an easy batter (flour+sodawater) and then coat the whole fish and shallow fry it in oil. Simmo.

    Greenwich

To be honest mate if it wasnt for this site and helpful chaps like yourself on it, I probably wouldnt have caught anything except for catfish . p.s. might need to pm u soon for some new pointers mate Cheers everyone, Simmo
  16. I have only fished there a couple of times, I find Bobbin Head to be more consistent. The pontoon at ATB is pretty good for bait fish like tailor, poddies and yakkas and I saw some guy with squid there once but I havent landed any myself. Other than that I suppose there is always the chance of a small Jewie coming through but I think u would have better luck in a boat. Other than that I have caught bream upto 30cm and small flatties. Good luck but I do suggest Bobbin head instead.

    Whats This?

    Thanks Slinky!
  21. Roberta, Slinky unfortunately I doubt the couple I met had reported these people to the police. They both struggled with english and just seemed like the easy going type wanting no confrontations. Dinos, I think they go there fishing in a large group then wait till late and just take the "easy target's" buckets and fish by show of force.
  22. Went down to Clifton Gardens in the afternoon with a mate. Pretty quiet evening but my mate got busted off by something huge after just dropping in some fresh squid (he called it for a big kingy). An elderly couple were the only others fishing on the whole wharf but when we began to leave as it got dark the old man came up to us and asked if we were going, we told him we were and he said in that case he and his wife would leave too. I asked him why this was? and his answer was quite disturbing. He told us that recently they had been there at night and a group of men had come and taken all the fish he and others had caught, stolen there buckets... He didnt think it was safe there for him and his wife and both left promptly after us. I thought this was pretty disgusting and by the way he told us it sounded as if it was a fairly regular occurance. Has anyone else heard or seen anything like this happen? The F@$*wits that are responsible are cowards to go after innocent people like that.
