Good catch.....Have caught kingies at night before...not specifically fishing for them but a surprise.

I normally target schnapper,mowies and occassionaly flathead but next month will be givening the hairtail a good go(have not done in several years).

I have tried them. Bled and iced and then cut into cutlets. Seal each side on the barbie and on the side have a pan simmering with a can of peeled tomatoes, chopped olives, garlic, capers and salt & pepper to taste. approx. 15-20 min and eat with bread

I use the bungee cord to keep them secured. Also leave the reel covers on till I use them and make sure the offsider does not put his up their all rigged up with a 10-12oz singer attached...deadly when it works loose.

Have used the pink ones and caught snapper with them. But be wary as the leatherjackets will shred them to pieces

Agree with you wannafish. when it comes to the deep water bottom bashing...just push the leaver and control the rod

Hi All Hoping the Hairtail will be in force next month. Have booked a houseboat for the Queens Birthday weekend specifically for them. Will fish for them at night and I will be also taking my boat for a fish outside or inside. Somewhere in between will try and get some sleep

Hi all Tried the Bay on saturday. Started off between Mollinou point and Bare island for the Kingies using down rigger and a slow trol but no luck. So headed outside for a fish. Picked up some good size nanigais an a huge Leather jacket. Decided to try out wide of the lighthouse but the currant was too strong and most of the boats that were there headed back in towards shore. Came back in and tried in front of Malibar for the flatties but was only getting the small spikies and a trevally. Decided to call it quits. Sorry about no pict. but had camera and left batteries on charge at home.
