dacobra
Hi Fishraiders - I am thinking of getting a box trailer to transport my tinnies. One is 10 foot and the other is a 12 foot job. Just a bit concerned about overhang off the trailer. Any other possible hassles? Thanks!
Blood Knot
Dacobra - Had a mate who towed his punt around on a box trailer. All worked well, but started to have some rust problems with the box trailer due to salt water running into the trailer floor and frame when the punt was turned over and put back on the trailer. May be a good idea to hose down boat and trailer when back home and incline the box trailer so it can drain off OK. John
cap3
A good treatment of lanolin spray should take care of any corrosion issues
numbers
Worried about rust? Maybe try a poly box trailer - no rust! (in the body anyway). PM Whitto. Cheers Numbers Edited May 23, 2006 by swordfisherman
Whitto
Thanks Numbers ... All the metal parts are galvanised, just like a boat trailer ... the box is Polyethelene, just like the Polycraft boats Stronger, quieter and NO RUST And with my 3m Tuff Tender "tinnie"on top ... Polycraft trailers - great idea, but surely they aren't as tuff as a good quality box trailer with checkerplate floors etc???
Whitto
Polycraft trailers - great idea, but surely they aren't as tuff as a good quality box trailer with checkerplate floors etc??? Not a Polycraft trailer ... although the box is made from the same plastic (polyethelene) It is as tuff as any industrial box trailer ... it's stronger than checkerplate because it flexes and can take a much harder knock! The box is double-skinned and each skin is around 8mm thick ... it can also hold up to 110 litres of water between the skins if you want to go bush. They are very quiet on the road, even when empty! abitfishy
Ah, but would be interesting to see at what premium price.....which is usually the catch with most great ideas. Whitto
LESS than a 4m boat trailer ... and much more versatile! The Poly Trailer costs around the same as a good quality trailer with a checkerplate floor. A painted steel Box Trailer made in China comes with a 3 month warranty. While a Poly Box Trailer made in Australia comes with a 5 YEAR warranty! Which would you buy?
