  2. Thank you to all!!!!!! Thought about going fishing, but couldn't stop driving the boat to throw in a line!!!! (first chance i've had to take the poly for a run!!!!!! ). Love my Poly!! Got some cool birthday presents - Permatrim, spare fuel tank, & some fishing books!!!!! Ahhhhhhh - best weekend i've had in ages!!
  3. Worried about rust? Maybe try a poly box trailer - no rust! (in the body anyway). PM Whitto. Cheers Numbers

    The Budget

Yeah, but it could just be the 10th plus GST????? Going back to my cage now... Numbers
  6. Jon Try going for a drive & take another person with you (take someone hefty). get them to sit up front with you & whilst driving along (on the plane) get them to move right down the back. You should feel a difference in the boat's behaviour (steering & maybe even tyhe revs might pick up a bit). This will give you an idea of how distributing the weight will help. Ideally you should have the motor trimmed "out" (up) as far as possible (just before it cavitates). This is easy to do with power tilt/trim, however as yours is all manual, you run the risk of cavitating in turns & you might also cavitate in rough stuff. My skiing background says put EVERYTHING down the back (when water comses over the transom, move something froward ) & when on the plane trim right out. This will obviously cause a few issues in your boat - 1. you may have trouble getting onto the plane (the motor may not have enought to get on the plane) and 2. the boat could end up at an uncomfortable angle to fish out of & may become unstable. I hope i have given you something to think about in relation to solving your problem. I don't believe there is any hard & fast answer, so i thought i'd share my thoughts & let you have fun working it out (another excuse to take the boat out!!!!!). Cheers Numbers
  7. I think from memeory i got 'em from Boppa. I think i have about four (of varying usefullness). I'll make sure i have 'em with me. Cheers Numbers
  8. I'm hoping to take the new poly for her maiden voyage on the Parra on Friday. (Blue & white - you can't miss me) MIGHT get some fishing in, MIGHT be too busy just driving the thing!!!!????!!!! I'll have to see if i can find somewhere that my "team fishraider" sticker will stick to on the poly!!!!! Mottyman - can you give me a heads-up on a good lure-chucking spot???? What are you in & I'll keep my eyes out?? Numbers
  9. Bob Please note i have a Poly (so i'm a bit pro-poly). Mate - I'm so much of a Scrooge i have it on my number plate!!!!!! Resale on the Polys is a tricky one - not many for sale, but those that are selling are generally pretty close to purchase price (allways puzzles me how people try to sell stuff second-ghand for what they paid for them new!). If you buy a new poly you get a four year warranty (that has to say something for the manufacturer's confidence). As far as the paint issue goes, i've seen too many beaut paint jobs destroyed, withthe poly you can smack-up just about anything & scratches don't stand out (colour goes right through the hull) & can be melted/sanded/polished out relatively easily (so i hear - have not had to try just yet!). Cheers Numbers
  10. Marty From my reasearch on the battery issue: Definately go with the deep cycle for the leccy. Normal batteries will die reasonably quickly from being run flat & charged over & over (they are not designed to cope with that). Apparently you can buy a battery that is a combination of both normal and deep cycle. I assume these would cost more, but having one battery in a little boat would provide substantial weight savings over two batteries. I have a new boat sitting in the yard at the moment (looks like it will finally get wet next weekend) which i splurged and got the bow-mount (minn kota) leccy & deep cycle set-up. It seems to be the tried & tested method. As for the Kmart leccy's, it would be interesting to see what power they consume in comparison to the motorguides & minn kotas (they might use more power to make the same thrust). My 10 cents (plus GST) Numbers
  11. Stumbled on a new Tv station the other week. "TVS" they have been running community-based programs for a while, but now have a schedule of programs which includes a fishing show at 8pm on Fridays. I'm not a big TV watcher (i'd rather be ouside or on here), so have not managed to catch a full episode, but managed to catch the last 5 minutes a week or so ago. Don't know who the host is, how good he is, etc. Worth a look. website: http://www.tvs.org.au/ I fthe show turns out to be crap, maybe we could all put together some video footage & submit our own show!!!!!!!?????? (count me out - until it comes to the "blooper" reel!!! ). Cheers Numbers
  12. I was thinking it was some interesting information unitl i read this paragraph: I am a South Coast angler - my son and I fish from a favourite wild beach and I hope it remains open after zoning is completed. But there is a reason I fish from the beach and not at the more popular spots on the headlands where my son and I would have a much better chance of filling the freezer. It is because many recreational fishermen are wilful litterers and/or their behaviour is antisocial. So his interest is in filling the freezer???? He does say later in the article about the joy of fishing with his son, etc (but after the previous comment i had lost interest in his article anyway). I think the "deposits" in the rock pools and the smashed beer bottles are probably related, but as for the rest???? I'm not a rock fisherman - my choice is by boat & i can't think the number of times i have checked a quick u-turn to pull a plastic bag, bottle, etc out of the water. It's a similar issue. Fisho's are not the only people who use our waterways & shorelines, but when these ares are polluted by vermin, who are the visible ones??? US!!!!!! so we get the blame, even though (as many have said here before me) WE are the ones cleaning up after these &*^%ers!!!!! Maybe when i have my next collection of rubbish out of the water (my boat is due for the maiden voyage soon!!!!) I'll wrap it & post it to this twit. That's my 10 cents worth (plus GST) Numbers
  13. Got Abe Lincoln on the 9qn. Got Ghandi on the 18qn. Not sure i want to try any more (this could get scary). Numbers.
  14. I just spent similar dollars on a poly & had a similar dilema. I decided on the blue!!! Why: There are too many white boats out there!!!!!!!! I don't believe blue will hinder your resale at all. You will notice that the majority of boat accessories come in blue &/or white & most white boats i've seen about have blue canopies, covers, biminis, etc. Go the blue!!!! Numbers What did you get????? C'mon, we're all waiting... Pictures yet?????
  15. Yeehaaa!!!! I'm winning Now, hopefully nobody else will play!!! my 10 seconds of fame is almost over... Numbers

    Cruise Control

I have cruise control, but don't use it (i'd rather stay alert when i'm driving anyway). I also have traction control, and turm it OFF anytime i'm planning on doing any darts out of side streets, particularly in the wet. Have had one bus come a bit too close to the car once (pulled out of a street on a hill, wheels slipped, traction control kicked in & cut the engine power, bus kept coming)!!!! I find it much easier to use the right foot to control wheel slip. Although the current car has some very sticky (& VERY expensive) rubber which makes things much safer. Numbers
  18. Go the Poly!!!!! Pick mine up in a few days. Numbers
  19. Sounds like a great time to start such a thing - i pick up the new boat on the weekend!!!!! Hopefully I'll be posting pics of the new boat AND some quality fish next week!!! Numbers
  20. Telcobroker Firstly, don't think we're trying to gang up on you here, but thought i'd share with everyone my thoughts. I am awaiting delivery of my brand new 4.1 side console POLY!!! (So i'm obviously pro-poly). I was looking for a v-bow punt style of boat. After looking at the various models available i obviously decided on the poly for the following reasons - FOUR YEAR warranty , the ability to take the knocks (accidents happen), colour range, ride quality, stability (the wife thinks she doesn't like boats, so i bought the most stable one i could find) and the fact that my ego was much boosted by the fact i could get a 50hp on the back (most of the equivalent aluminium boats only go to about 30 or 40hp). Believe it or not, price was not a primary factor (even though i am an accountant!!!!!! ). As far as protection, etc goes, i ordered a bimini with it for sun protection (i have very white pasty skin - perfect for an accountant), and as far as having kids in the boat, i would rather put then in a poly than an aluminium boat of the same size - Zero sharp edges on the poly!!! (i have been out in a few tinny's & taken a few nasty knocks myself). That's my 2 cents (plus GST) Numbers
  21. Ahhhh, Finally a solution to the dioxon issue in the harbour!!! Should be an easy fix!!! ...now where did i put that flux capacitor... ...does anyone have some spare plutonium????? GREAT SCOTT!!!!!!!! Numbers
  22. Sammy Go the Poly!!!!! If you buy new - 4 year warranty!!!! (if you are short of funds, then it's great to know that you have a warranty to protect your pocket!!). I'm waiting on a call from Ben at Yabbie to let me know my baby has arrived, so i can give the thumbs-up for both the poly AND Yabbie. If you go down to Yabbie, $10k might just get you a 4.1 open, 30hp suzi & trailer. BRAND NEW!!!! (that means warranty on boat, motor AND trailer. Maybe have a look at the Silverwater boat show???? (I'm sure Yabbie will be there!). Best of luck in the hunting for the boat. Numbers.
  23. That'd be me!!! Yeeeeehhhhaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!! The wait is killing me!!!! (or maybe it's just the renovations to the house that's doing that!?!?!?!?!?) Will post pics soon!!!!!!!!!! (too bad you can't buy a poly windows for the car - the Muckin' Fongrels at brooklyn would never smash the poly!!!!) Numbers
  24. Go the Poly? - damn right!!!!!! Two weeks 'till i pick mine up!!!!!! Numbers
