Penguin
Fished the harbour with my mate George on Thurs, Set off from Rose Bay ramp at 6am,went to Balmoral for some livies, got 3 yakkas 1 was a nice small size and the other 2 were monsters,no squid about not even at Middle Head very dissapointing. Trolled out thru the heads and went north past Bluefish pt and back for zilch.Zillions of birds were sitting on the water between the heads, but there were was no surface action of any kind,no sambos. Went to Clifton burleyed up and got into some Trevs(5),Flatties(2), Flounder(3)and 1 Tailor.I hooked a XOS Tailor on the small livey I had put out only to be bitten off inches from the landing net.Things went slow after a while and the wind was getting anoying so we moved up into middle harbour tried a few spots for some pesky snapper that ranged in size between 9-28cm.Motored into Bantry bay set out one of my biggish yakkas under a float and proceeded to fish with some peeled prawns on my other rod,5mins into it my float goes under and the drag starts to scream,I lose about 50mtrs of line and as soon as I tighten the drag and strike, nothing, and my float comes back up to the surface,I wait awhile then reel in my yakka, its dead but there are no teeth marks or much damage to it,only damage was to the upper and lower fins that looked torn.I set the last yaka up the same way only he was bigger again so I didnt think anything would touch it.10 mins and 2 Bream later, whack there goes the drag and float again, this time I let it run and it takes about 80mtrs and stops,I give the reel a couple of turns and the fish is off again, I tighten the drag just a little and then nothing,AAAAAAAAGH,I scream out and some people come out of some of the moored boats there to see whats goin on.I pull in my float but theres no yak on it,gone. We stayed there another 30mins for 2 more Bream and a small Snapper caught right at the end when I thought I'd give a sp a try, was my 1st capture using sp's(3in Bass Minnow). That was it for the day. penguin

Penguin
good fish... unfortunately u couldnt land the bigger stuff. wats ur guess? kingies? Not sure mate,I'd like to think so,that 2nd yakka I lost was around the 30cm mark, and the one before that was a couple of cm's shy of that, and they were very fat, most Kings I have caught (50-80cm's)I think would have problems getting yakkas that big down their gobs. Who knows. penguin
abiasin
spewing about the lost fish mate but it looks like a good feed was rounded up in the end. my guess is decent sized kingies. cheers.
Flattieman
Nice bag of fish, mate! - Despite the losses . Cobia are always options - they've got bigger mouths than kingies too... but they're fairly scarce. Flattieman. James
good stuff on what you got mate. your theory on a 50- 80cm king being unable to take a 30 cm yakka is most definately wrong. at the western wedding cake last year i was catching endless amounts of undersize kings on 30cm yakkas it was truly hard to believe the fish were lass than half the size of the bait. i reckon you were losing kings today sorry to hear that

James
Great report .Thats a great catch from the harbour. Those two runs you had might have been jews, just a thought?????? doubt it. jews rarely feed on the surface you would have maybe allowed it for an option after the first but two i very much doubt it. would most probably been a pelagic schooling fish causing the havoc

reefa
in response James theory that jew do not feed on the surface, I have read a few stories with pro fishos talking about jew slamming into baitfish late at night.
