squidboy
Headed out Saturday morning at 5:30am to find some squid for the dinner table. I knew that over the last few weeks everyone has been nailing squid for Kingfish and jewfish bait so we decided to head outside of Port Hacking. We got to a reef outside Cronulla and started to jig. Wasnt a good day to start of with as we didnt start to catch any till a few hours later. But then they came, 16 of them about medium sized but no biggies to report. Most we caught on size 3 yozuris but I tried a blue shrimp hunter too and got two more squid. Next is to get some Kings so kept posted. Hope you all had a good and safe weekend. Squidboy Heres some of the catch

But the upside to that is that I can go back outside fishing again cause the freezer is empty and I vow not to go to the fish markets again in 2007. I havent been bak for years I think lol Hope to be back amongst the big ones towards the end of this month. Will put up more posts as time goes on. squidboy
would you please share how you cook them? always interesting to understand new way and tips. Ok there are many ways to cook squid. here are some simple recepies: 1) salt n pepper squid. 2) Squid in tomato sauce, potatoes, mushrooms, carrots as a cassrole served with boiled rice 3) Stuffed squid (Squid head and tentakles are cut up and stuffed in the tube with bread crumbs, salt, pepper, parsley and garlic, cooked in tomatoes too) 4) Calamari rings (boring) 5) squid with Pasta (My Fav) Also, if you want squid to be very very very tender and not "stringy". SOAK THEM IN KIWI JUICE. No Joke! Squidboy told you so! Hope this helps the raiders
pk-fishn
mate great catch of squid there you sure are living up to you name!! nice recipies too, oh and great tips on the kiwi juice but dont leave them in there too long as your squid will turn to mush. the enzymes and acidity in the kiwi actually break down the squids protein and in turn tenderise it!! great tip. cheers pk

Cheers Greg No No No Just the normal green Kiwi fruits pretty much. Not a problem for the recipe ideas I hope they get the imagination going. Im off to the Hawksbury this weekend and might use some squid as bait. Any good consistent Jew spots at the moment up there? Mondo Rock
Squidboy - there are a couple of questions directed to you in this thread that I reckon the Raiders would love you to answer. If ya do then you'll probably get a better response to your request for jewie spots in the HB!!
