  1. Surgeon fish> Theyre like drummer on steroids!
  2. this was actually a topic in hsc biology and has to do with the natural concentration gradients in environments. More simply, in freshwater environments the cell fluids in fish are more concentrated (with electolytes/salts) then the surrounding water therefore they tend to gain water by osmosis, as water will move from an area of high conc (i.e low in solutes eg salt) to an area of low conc (one which is high in solutes). therefore freshwater fish dont "drink" and they excrete large amounts of dilute urine and actively absorb salts through their gills to maintain this concentration gradient. in marine environments organisms have a lower internal salt conc then the area around them and they must have adaptations to prevent excessive water loss. they constantly "drink" water and the gills excrete salt. they also produce a very conc urine. therefore the water lost by excretion is less then the water taken in by drinking and they remain hydrated. they are known as osmoregulators: in brief: freshwater fish excrete water and absorb salts saltwater fish: conserve water and excrete salt. sharks and rays: osmoconformers (their internal concentration changes with external environment) sorry for the long response but hope it answers the question. cheers pk.
  3. sounds spot on! good luck with the comp
  4. im thinking its the Clarence river your refering to as the tectonic plate (earths crusts colliding making mountan ranges etc) movement have created differing flow directions in various sections of the river. An anomalous drainage pattern results as the southeast-flowing Clarence is closely aligned with the northwest-flowing Condamine River just across the Continental Divide. hope that helps. cheers pk
  5. mate that should serve you nicely, the jerk shads have become quite a popular snapper placcie lately one of the more popular colours has been the nuclear chicken as well. as for the wieght and style of your jigheads your on the mark yet try an go as light as possible for the depths that your fishing as if on the close in reefs you may get away with a lighter jighead. What pound mainline and leader are you planning on? cheers pk

  7. great fish there and good entertainment.. id have to agree that mullet arent the best for eating although they make a top bait for jewfish (whole or in fillets), bream (when strips and the gut is top bait also) and a variety of species.

  16. just wanting to know did anyone else see it and what you thought of it. its good to know that there are more grey nurses than once thought as many sharks are being sighted without tags, but the fisheries surveys and stats are pretty poor considering there the primary reasons leading to closeouts of areas to fisherman(marine parks.) cheers pk
  17. politics is a tricky businness!!! im not of voting age yet (one year off) but i still like to be in the know with regards to policy, economics (study it at school) etc. i support no party yet through looking at bopth parties policies on there webpage "i"would be leaning heavily towards the liberals in this election, even with labors 15milllion dollar campaign (compared with debnams 5million). this is taxpayers money and labors just thorwing it away and putting NSW in a position where we may be facing debt crisis. Labor has been dominating the ads campaign lately yet there slogan " There is more to do but we’re heading in the right direction" is only a recognition/reflection of previous labour shortfalls and is pretty weak. With these claims of peter debnnam cutting 20000 jobs there has to be some evidence behind it yet they fail to mention it in the ads and surely its an exaggerated figure as the blokes not gong to come in and eliminate jobs so he can ruin the economy and his public reputation (if you look in his policies his claims state that hell be bringing more health workers ie nurses and doctors in, not cutting them.) Furhtermore there claims scrutinise the individuals not evidence of political error etc for eg Debnams failed prawn hatchery, whatdoes that have to do with the big "team game" of politics. while if you do look at evidence: ive been catching the train to school most of my schooling years and our system as qouted by many overseas and domestic experts "is one of the worst and most complex in the world". Costa failed massively here and now he may be treasurer!!, the cross city tunnel another failure! NOw if you look at the fishing side of things the liberals back rescue plans in waterways such as parramatta, cooks river and tugerah lakes. They stae nowhere in there policy that theyll back sanctuary/marine park zoning. overall more votes to labor and you have a desal plant more votes to labor and you have greens on their back with sanctuary zoning etc. its a double loss. yet saying all this id have doubts about both parties yet liberals havent been in pariliament and havent faultered or succeded yet. Good luck and be careful working out who to vote for though its a tricky game!!! cheers pk.
  18. apparently wind is another major factor i dont think they like strong winds... and as mentioned falling/low tide would be best cheers pk

  21. good report mate and nice results... gee there are some real idiots out there who dont know how to give up!!! wise choice on leaving them alone as others would have been very tempted to let them have it and gotten themselves in some serious trouble be it with the boat company or the law.. cheers pk
  22. many reports from sydney fishos have indicated that sharks have been hanging around the channel markers and stealing kings of fishos!! i suppose with the kings everywhre its a plausible proposition.. hope that makes it better... cheers pk
  23. did a search on the forums and found this from last years posts. So even if you are a ratepayer and have your council sticker you still have to pay for the privilege of parking car and trailer once you have launched the boat. $6 weekdays and $12 weekend for 24 hours. You can by a yearly ticket for around $128.
  24. mate thats a massive squid well done on it and the kings.. did you get it on a squig jig or baited jig??? and not many people give squid to the people next to them so good karma should be coming your way and hopefully that monster hoodlum will come your way!! cheers pk
