Hi all im planning a trip to my number 1 all time spot for some LB action on pelagics this coming friday....

Is fishing after a solid rain any good or is the water clarity/ph levels etc no good for it... or simply does it not make much difference..... I will be fishing off rocks over a beach with a nearby reef...... what are your thoughts ?

Cheers,

Ian

I'm not all that familiar with the LBG scene, however i think at this time of the year with the amount of baitfish and pelagic predators around, it doesnt really matter..Yesterday, there was an early morning shower and we still managed to land 5-6 bonnies + kings during the rain and then another 10 or so afterwards..

I fished the George's River a few years ago after heavy rain.

The water was a dark borwn from the run off upstream.

Normally when I go to that spot there would be undersized fish picking

at my bait but on that day there were no little ones. Caught a sluggish flathead (70cm)

after waiting 2 hrs for a bite.

So from my experience the rain is good for keeping little fish away.

Hi Ian

All the Jewie guys here go out fishing the breakwall after a good rainfall - the prawns & baitfish get flushed out with the outgoing tide - also the water is usually dirty, & lends itself to more hits.

Good luck!

Around Brisbane Water and Broken Bay / Hawkesbury mouth many seasoned Jew hunters love a good flush out of the river and creeks. It washes the bait fish down and with the cloudy water the jews have cover for ambush predation. Over the years I've known of many big ones caught, particularly Land Based. Some fall to live baits if you can get them and the faithful red head / white feathers have also done the damage. Old timers like Val Thorsby and more my vintage, Glen Aubrey, were big wet specialists from places like Box Head and the Gosford Rail Bridge.

A bit of fresh in the system doesn't harm Bream fishing either. One of my best days in Paddy's Channel was 13 fish up to 1.8 kg in the pouring rain, after three days of wet, on the last hour of the run in tide fishing the eddy that forms on this time of the tide at the ballast heap.
