Guest DV8
Hi raiders Along with a mix of other things I picked up at West Reef on Saturday I scored a nice Bonito. Have caught so few of these things over the years that I had never thought about eating one, though both my books said that they were not a pleasant eating fish. Has anyone eaten one before, if so what do they taste like?? Davo
mottyman
G'day, I gave the Bonnie I caught yesterday to my mum and dad and they said it was just great lightly fried in a bit of flour. Mind you, my dad eats sweep and Salmon of all things so take from that what you will.... Cheers David.
domza
around 5 years ago my dad scored one at about 3kg off kiama, it tastes OK lightly fried
bmar560
It's good tasting RAW if you like sashimi. Just bring small bottle of soy sauce and a tube of wasabi next time you go out fishing and you can have the freshest sashimi. it's also good filleted and shallow pan fried. Blackfish
Fillet and skin them, take out the blood line, soak them in lemon juice for a couple of hours, then fry. Tastes good. B.F.
locodave
They call it "chicken of the sea". I've caught one before and I actually ate it! Best fish I have ever ate! Maybe it was the way it was cooked! It was battered with a bit of garlic, yum!

Guest DV8
I regret not eating it now. Instaed i have two fillets sitting in salt for my next reddie session. Seems a waste. Thanks for all your replies. davo

pekingduck
One of my favourite eating fish. Heaps of sauce and slow cooked in a clay pot.
choad
i've been told that overcooking them is what spoils the fish. lightly fried fillets seem the way to go.

costello
It's always been an interesting topic hasn't it. I don't know who to believe and I still haven't caught one yet to try. I find if the fish shop's don't sell it, then it can't be all that good. Although you could miss out on alot of good things with that attitude to Cheers, Mark
pekingduck
Some fish have to be eaten super fresh for them to be good and I think this is one of them fish. I like eating tailor and bonito and kingfish for example, but would never buy it from a fish shop cos they are not fresh enough.
