skunga Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Hello, New to the forums here and I like what I see. I was wondering if any of you get squid regularly WEST of the harbour bridge? I fish out of a tinny and put in at Drummoyne. Also does anyone know of any good bait grounds in a similar area. I get occasional yakkas and squid around gladesville bridge, but not regular enough to warrant calling it a good 'spot' for live baits.. Thanks in advance for your advice. Steve(skunga)
netic Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I have seen a few squid caught at Kissing point wharf
gretsch Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Mate, I have never squidded up there but, if you find kelp, you should find squid.
Mondo Rock Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 And remember the rules for successful squid fishing: Little to no wind on the water surface Weed beds in the vicinity last quarter of the rising tide Light shining on the water Most well-lit harbour jettys will produce squid under these conditions. Head out one night for the two hours up to high tide and just move from wharf to wharf flicking jigs under the lights until you find them. The harbour's full of the little suckers from what I hear.
skunga Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 Thanks for the helpful replies. I don't have too much trouble getting squid, particularly east of the harbour bridge. Just haven't put too much time into the west side of it. I have been studying a few satelite maps and plan to give a few places a shot this coming saturday... and give my new downrigger a run
DaveD Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Welcome to the site and good luck with your squidding
xtosea Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Most wharves hold squid around 3hrs either side of high tide that side of the bridge. I have never had trouble catching them at any of the wharves west of the bridge, but they are not there all the time. You should do ok. Kamil
