YESTERDAY WAS GOOD BUT TODAY WAS SENSATIONAL

THE UPPER GEORGES FIRES ON BIG BLACKFISH

What a great days fishing with my two partners in crime Norm Jeffery's and "Fishraider' Mark Night. We had a wonderful day yesterday and a beaut. bag of fine fish, but to day they really came on the chew.

As I've always said "It is great to fish with blokes who are masters of the art of black fishing" and it is an art.

A bit like fly fishing for trout, working out the best runs, the right flys and the best techniques to outsmart the fish .

Well! To fish with Norm Jeffrey's, who probably has passed the (70 to young bracket) is for me a prive ledge, not only is he a great conversationalist, which is so good on a blackfish session, but he too is a humble man who has forgotten more about blackfish than most of us will learn.

Why wouldn't any sane man want to rub shoulders with him?.

He has fished the Georges for 50 years and can pick when the fish have moved off to the next eddy in the tide He can say "Drop down 6inches here Roscoe" and low and behold the bites come gain.

I admire men that have accumulated such knowledge and go through their fishing life with total dignity and a reediness to help others, a fine man and a great mentor to fish with.

I have met other knowledgeable black fisherman and most of them older than me.

My great mates at Laurieton Brain Perkins and Jack Elliott and the late Bado, they too have taught me much of which I will be eternally in the dept.

You see blackfishernman are a special breed, they always take the good with the bad and after a bad session may say "Well they didn't bite so good today, but it was most enjoyable and Ya wouldn't be dead for quids…would ya!"

Maybe as we get a little more mature it is this form of fishing that attracts us I'm not sure.

Some say to me "Why would you want to go fishing on your day off!"…I reply ' "Cause I love it".

Black fishing has been in my blood now for the past five years and whilst I spend a couple of hundred days a year catching yellow fin, marlin mahis etc for our clients…. when I go black fishing it is for me personally, no customers, no pressure, no rocking boats…………… Just me and a couple of friends.

On a lonely river with an occasional screech of a white cockatoo or a white-bellied sea eagle hovering in the sky looking for a mullet Somewhere in the timber a magpie calls

Yeh! that's what I love about black fishing

The serenity as you watch your float as it dips and then slowly goes down "Don’t strike to early but don't leave it to long either!

You lift your rod and feel the weight and your on……That's what I'm talking' about

We fished a session on the Georges today in near perfect weather and for all of us the fish bit so well

Roberta I watched my float instead of the other blokes, on your advice and caught 14 beaut fish

We all had a great time…….Good conversation and a great session on the Georges,

Shame you missed out Swordy………………………. See you tomorrow.

As usual Norm was champion angler with Mark and myself were right up his exhaust pipe.

Well done. What a great days catch and enjoyment.

Once the water temperature increases, it will be just as good fishing the Georges for Bream & Whiting.

Hey Roscoe!! Well done!!! Gee, with that number of fish, you could have some fresh, frozen & smoked!! Yum! Check out how I freeze them so they are ready to cook from frozen!! An easy quick meal, 'specially when unexpected guests turn up!

and smoking fish

And Ditto to everything that you said about blackie fishing! SOmetimes it is about the journey, not the destination & the great folk you meet along the way. I don't mind not getting fish if I have enjoyed the company & the day. If it is cold, wet & miserable, then I am too - especially if I don't get fish, too! Thoroughly enjoyed reading your report - it could have been me writing it!!! I could wax lyrical about it aaaallllll day!!

I bet your older buddy, Norm, would know Roy & Thelma Evans - he is in his 90's & she would be close to it, too & still fishing for blackies - tow their van & boat up to Yamba every year (there now for 3 months) for the last 50 years! They live on the Georges river there somewhere!

I must make an effort to go down & fish with him whilst he is still on this humble earth!!! His knowledge would be worth putting in a library!

So glad you were really watching your float - see how many more fish you got? Ya gotta concentrate! That is one of the main tricks! It is so easy for your mind to wander & you miss the downs. WHen you talk to someone next to you - don't look at them, keep watching your float! It could be a diabolical ploy to put you off your game!! Most people look at the person they are speaking to (polite, I know, but not practical when blackie fishing!) :1prop::1prop:

See ya

That's a fantastic haul fellas.

Well done. Were they biting on cabbage or weed?

The fish we caught yesterday were extremely timid and were just sucking the baits really softly. You could hardly tell when a fish was lining the bait up. I much prefer it when you're looking at your float and disappears right before your eyes. I just love that!

Also, looking into the sun yesterday arvo was a real pain.

Regards,

Lindsay.

Massive!!!

Paying homage to the wise and well learned and most importantly

learning their lessons will put all in good stead.

Blackfish Specialists know not only of their quarry but the Rule of Mother Nature,

for if you read her signs wrong, your lucky to get a second chance.

Congratulations Gentlemen

Wish i was there, for the action and the lesson.

Raiders,

Every picture tells a story they say and whilst we had a blinder of a session yesterday with over 40 fish between the 3 of us...the fish in the photos were just out of our keepers and still well and truly alive and of those 13 were released....The freezer is now full and it's blackfish fillets for a month or so

We also got the Swordfisherman on them today and once again we releasd a dozen fish They did not bite as well in the nor wester Look for Swordys report and check out his new blackfish shoes fresh from Wattos. He luvs 'em
