Ken A Posted January 21, 2005 Share Posted January 21, 2005 I headed around the local tarpon hole this afternoon for round 3 I rigged a couple poppers differently in an attempt to keep the hooks in a tarpon. One was rigged with a single hook at the rear & the other with a treble on a 20mm length of line tied to the rear of the popper. I also went down to a foot of leader to reduce stretch & fished heavy drag also. Conditions were ordinary with a strong NE wind & an electrical storm moving in fast. I started fishing at 6.30pm & by 6.45 I managed 5 strikes & kept the hooks in 2 of them which is pretty good for Tarpon. The ones I landed were only small like the 26cm fish below but at least I improved my hook up ratio I fished on for a few more hits & losses including one big fish but the storm was getting very close with only a couple seconds between lightning & thunder so I bolted for home.
