Le Pasha
Gday guys, had a very late start to the day leaving the bay at 1.00pm as we were preoccupied during the morning! With all the reports of fin we pushed out at 26 knots to reach our destination a few miles SE of browns. for our first go at the fin this year. Water temp was hovering around 21.6 and straight away we set the trail. Within 10 minutes we had a double hookup on sizeable fin, half hour later both were gaffed and into the boat, great fish for anglers first and a top start to the day!! Lines back into the water and we hooked up straight away on 24kg to another good similar sized fin which was brought to the boat in about 20 minutes and gaffed, another one on the deck in just half an hour of fishing, and mid 40'kgs for the lot of them!! However we were down one gaff after a fish bent the pole!! The chaos on deck was organized and again the lines went back in the water, this time with a 10kg outfit for some fun. Of course it was the 10kg that went off and an approximate 35kg fin (which didn't realise it was hooked for half the fight!) was brought to the boat fairly easily and gaffed for number 4 within the hour!! Again the lines went back in in search of more fin that were on the chew! We noticed a couple of tuna birds working the back of the boat and straight away to rods buckled over with power as line peeled off. Another mid 40's fish was brought to the boat and its line was reset, however the other fish proved stubborn as it was tail wrapped, make it a pain in the ass to gaff Plus a Big Blue Shark decided to make an appearance in our trail, although it didn't seem to affect the fin!! Last but not least, late in the day as the tail wrapped fish was being fought another rod went off with yet another 40+ fin gaffed. The deck was full of fish and blood and as the sun was setting that did us for the day!! Got back home at 6pm for a big cleanup and to fillet the fish. Great to get out on the water on a beautiful day for our first go on the fin, not bad for a Half Day!! Shaping up for a good Sponsors day! plankton
I spose fishing doesn't get better, unless your inside a Northern Queensland River with Barra of the same same size and number lining the edges... How many Kg's of pillies did you guys take out there with you? Edited May 26, 2008 by plankton

Hi mate, we used 10kg of Pillies but remember it was only for a half day. 20kg would do the job for a full day of cubing Daniel

Le Pasha
Plankton, the pillies were cut into three for the cubes, but the baits that went onto the hooks were full pillies not cubes....we throw a couple of cubes in at a time, wait for them to disappear and then throw another couple...works for me!!! James, looks smaller in the photo for some reason but about 150kg I'd say....wish we could have had a better look but we were trying to get it to f*** off as we had a double hook up on fin at the time lol Daniel Daniel
