Here's the lyrics for those of us who like to sing-a-long.

Rolf Harris - Two Little Boys

===============================

Two little boys had two little toys

Each had a wooden horse

Gaily they played each summer's day

Warriors both of course

One little chap then had a mishap

Broke off his horse's head

Wept for his toy then cried with joy

As his young playmate said

Did you think I would leave you crying

When there's room on my horse for two

Climb up here Jack and don't be crying

I can go just as fast with two

When we grow up we'll both be soldiers

And our horses will not be toys

And I wonder if we'll remember

When we were two little boys

Long years had passed, war came so fast

Bravely they marched away

Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd

Wounded and dying lay

Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out

Out from the ranks so blue

Gallops away to where Joe lay

Then came a voice he knew

Did you think I would leave you dying

When there's room on my horse for two

Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying

I can go just as fast with two

Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble

Perhaps it's the battle's noise

But I think it's that I remember

When we were two little boys

Do you think I would leave you dying

There's room on my horse for two

Climb up here Joe, we'll soon by flying

Back to the ranks so blue

Can you feel Joe I'm all a tremble

Perhaps it's the battle's noise

But I think it's that I remember

When we were two little boys

Thanks for that Mariner - lots of different versions of his stuff there, too!

The first time I really listened to the words of that song, it brought me to tears! The eyes still moisten up even now!

He is an amazing bloke - fantastic artist, singer & Television presenter. I would be happy with just one of his skills.

As kids, we were glued to the TV trying to work out what he was painting (using the biggest house painting brushes) as he usually painted them upside down or sideways, usuallyl in black & white, leaving the final details to the last brush stroke, which revealed what the painting actually was! Very Clever Bloke!

If they put those shows on again, I'd watch them again!

Cheerio

Actually saw him on Andrew Denton, one of the most amazing interviews ive seen. In it, the subject of the song " Two Little boys " came up and it was NOT written by Rolph Harris. Rolph was out in the bush with another famous aussie bushman (and i cant think of his bloody name) as they sat back, this fella says "ive got a great song for you that you might be able to use" and begins tapping the tune on a rock. Rolph cannot stand it and patiently waits for the end, after a while they chat and he comes up with some new words, made him cry as he sung it, and im pretty sure that the song was passed on to the first, still cant think of his name.

Another thing, "Jake the Peg" was also not written by rolph harris, it is an old sea song that he saw performed overseas, he asked the elderly gentleman if he could teach him the song, and eventually asked his permission to use it although it wasnt his in the first place, its heritage lays in Holland.

100% agree!

that song always [and i hope will always] bring a tear to my eye.

i am a great admirer of rolf. he was a major influence for me in deciding to take up art [amatuer],the way he'd throw his brushes around and never being too "precious" with his work was [as a kid] a great learning curve for me, and although a lot of people dislike him there's no doubt the man has a huge heart, a wonderful passion for life and dispite his fame [particularity in uk] has remained genuinely humble.

thanks mariner31.

edit:

damn, those u-tube videos just take too long to load with dial up!
