hooklineanddrinker Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 (edited) Sensational day at my local spot. Got myself a few pb's too!!! Thought I was killing it...... until, I changed from the float method to get my pigs and niggas when a mate took me to my spot X two days ago. Weather overcast, drizzlely but the wind held up. Barometer dropping and fished the top to run out tide. 'Watch grasshopper, said Brett. New method... size 1 or 2 bait holder hook to a size 00 running bean sinker. I have 12 lb line on my reel but I put a on small swivel to a 17 lb leader. Still in it for the sport of it, but I love the adrenaline rush when you hook something good. Thinking about it, there's a bit of dancing around the rocks to go with it just so I don't get smoked! Anyway, a good berley to start and then bits and pieces while fishing. My mate Brett smashed it two days ago and caught a lot of what I caught by myself today (a good mixed bag!). I couldn't get the feel of fishing the new way at first .... and just watched Brett with a grin on his face like Dale Kerrigan in the 'Castle' pulling in fish after fish. Then .....it clicked! I got my p.b 40 cm 2.15 kg black drummer and two good niggas 36 cm & 39 cm to take home. Threw back two small drummer, my first silver drummer, 1 trevally and a small bream. Now I was grinning too! Great day and a new way!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Then.... today went down by myself and replicated the previous session.... but with now Master Brett. Could I pull it off on my Pat Malone???? Weather overcast , drizzlely and the wind was up a bit today. Barometer steady and fished the top to run out tide again. The wind did give me the $%^&s but I started casting in between the gusts and put on a size 0 running bean sinker. That did the trick! Well..... I $@#&ing nailed it!!! From the photos you can see it was good, huge mixed bag!!! PB's: silver drummer 36 cm, yellow fin bream 37 cm and my first few keeper trevally's... largest 42 cm and luderick 43 cm. And my total PB in one session: 8 luderick 4 black drummer (largest 38cm) 1 silver drummer 3 yellow tail bream 5 trevally Now I don't take everything home that's just legal!!! The group shot with the dog was just after I took the fish out of my keepers net and I did throw back the small back drummer, small bream and the thumper silver drummer. I only keep the good sized ones! Took home 5 niggas, 1 pig, 1 bream and 4 blurters and some good photos too. The dog loves the treva fillet raw with rice. Sorry to dribble but I had a great day! .... and you didn't! Well I hope someone else did? Makes me feel heaps better about losing my job last week! I'm outta here and hitting the hose. Bye. Hey Ray R, Area: Sydney Eastern suburbs But more importantly............... the secret bait................. bread! Good berley to start (bread mixed with 1/2 a pack of chicken pellets). Watch the way it drifts..... and the fish were literally jumping out of the water to get hooked. I've never seen luderick and drummer in such a frenzy, smashing bread on the surface. Couldn't believe it! Take care, Adrian.
jenno64 Posted May 29, 2009 Posted May 29, 2009 That's a corker of a bag and I agree it's how to fish for those species...running sinker and light gear. On bread too! Well done and enjoy the feed!
erroll Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 welcome and well done. what a great haul. got me inspired now. cheers
Tiger Cam Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Siiiiiiiick .......... ....... Productive session too Cheers, Cam

hooklineanddrinker Posted June 2, 2009 Author Posted June 2, 2009 (edited) Way to go mate!! What species is the spotty looking fish near your dog? It's a silver drummer. Check it out on it's own in my photo album. The pattern on it looked sensational. I threw him back as his not as good to eat as the black drummer. Cheers Edited June 2, 2009 by hooklineanddrinker
gness Posted June 2, 2009 Posted June 2, 2009 Great report mate! Ditto on the bread - I've always head more success on bread than bait down at the local rocks!
