Diver just google Flathead Classic 2010. I think its called tenno or something like that. Its at Summerland point. I think i have spoken to you in the past and arent you from there. We have a holiday place there too so going to have the boat on our wharf ready to go. Cant wait.

I may not be everyones best fan here but i agree with banning electric reels. To me fishing is a bit of the hunter gatherer trait in me and i know many are going to say why not fish with vine or something like that. I disagree as with rods you still need to overcome many factors to get them in the boat. With electirc reels all you do is send it down, then after a determined wait press a button for it to come up. Pathetic. I have never caught a marlin but seen many that have. This is what i call "fishing". Man vs beast.

Mate i have a 40hp on a 4m tinny. I even complain when there is 3 people onboard as it slows down so much. I would say that you will never be happy with the way a 40hp performs on that no matter what make engine. I thinks buying an underpowered engine is quite common. My old man bough a quinnie about ten years ago with a 40hp on it. Got rid of it a year later as it moved so slowly and bought a stegcraft with 200 johno. Not my favourite hull but that enging was a beast and made our boating so much more enjoyable. Huey is right though only you can answer this one. How much $$$$$ do you have to spare. Sorry if this suggestion sucks as my hull knowledge is lacking but could you keep the engine and modify the transom and wack another 40hp on it for twin engines? Would save you losing the resale on the engine and also you would be able to buy a cheaper engine than $9500.

Hey and well done on your first king. I thought i would share a few of my spots as the sea is there to share. Firstly for squid near the spit. I always go just before first light and can usually raise a couple at least. My most reliable spot is to the left of the restaurant if you are facing land. There is sandy area where people hire yaks from. Bright lights shine off this wharf and all around there seem to hold squid. They are small but good bait size used whole. People drift between the pillons but i find this less productive. Yakkers i have had trouble getting at Balmoral as the sweep are everywhere. I launch from Drummoyne and go past Clark Island. There is a little wharf on Clark Is, on the side nearest the bridge and this has bucket loads of them. I use a tiny hand line with a tiny sinker with one size 12, i think, hook. Jigs are good but i find one hook is so much easier to deal with. You get one or at least drop on on every drop. Mix some bread in a bucket with water and throw some of that in and they will swarm. Hi Roberta, I cant give you any specifically brilliant rigs but i can say that i really prefer the other jigheads, nitro etc, and they cost less. As far as i am concerned i will only pay more if its noticably more efficient and these in my opinion are not. Cheers. Mike. I agree though they look and feel the goods in my hand but obviously not in the fishes mouth.

My opinion would be to learn the uni knot first. Its pretty easy but can be used a fair bit.

Using sweep as bait for flathead is unusal no? Good looking king though. I love a good burley pot of guts and random other fish attracting things.

Thanks for the replies. I do back off my drag when squidding but will back off a bit more. I think i will just buy a crap rod that is really flimsy and use that and keep my TD rod for bream and flathead.

Hi All. Just a question that i i have been curious about of late. I used to use a cheap shimano catana rod for my squidding and used to have fair success. A while back i got myself a TD Advantage which as you may know is a fast taper rod. I have noticed that since then my squid catching ability has suffered but not sure if its just the lack of squid around. Do any raiders have any opinions as to whether the squid prefer a little give when they grab the jig thus making slow tapered rods better suited to squidding? Cheers for aany info. Mike.

That is a very good offer for $50. Take him up on it. I made one of the esky ones but that one is far superior. You will need a bilge to go with that one though.

Mate i would go with the Tierra. I know it sounds horrendously gay but i bought a TD Advantage rod and TD Sol reel a while back. My biggest regret is that the red and black doesnt look great against the yellow of the sol. The Tierra i am sure is a good quality reel and the sol certainly is the goods.

I would say from a beach it should be ok but from a wharf i think you are bound for snags. Blades arent cheap and casting and retrieving and staying in contact with the bottom, its only a matter of time before you lose both of them. I prefer SP as they are much cheaper if snagged.

I was under the impression that fish caught by commercial fisherman in nets dont have to be a legal size. Am i wrong??

Juzza is spot on. The comment above that is useless. Use the reset button on your router. If you can get online on another computer or connection just google the name of your router and find out how to log into that. If there is no wireless connection, which it sounds like the isnt, you will need a physical cord connection and then just type in the web address like you would any address. It happened to me some time ago but going through the process of reconfiguring your router you will learn a lot. Good luck young man.

2.5g in pink and orange by the brands you mention. Cheers and good luck. I must say a good squid fisherman will catch squid with a crap jig and a not so good squid FM will still catch nothing with the most expensive jig going. Time and practice pays off.

My personal opinion would be no they wouldnt be any good. I agree they are good plastics but their sink rate is slow and 40m is a fair way to get down. I would stick to squidgy pro range flick baits(pilly) which are my choice at the moment or 5/7 inch jerk shads. What would you be targeting with them anyway? To be honest they look good in a packet but as far as catch rate goes i find many other plastics far better. Let me know how you go anyway. Cheers Mike.

There is a dude on here selling a 8kg wilson live fibre spin rod. Buy that and wack it on. They are sweeettttt rods and you can put the curry on most things. May be a little light though depending on what pd you are going to use. I think my mate also bought a new mack king which looks the goods too.
