an 18 footer in good nick will cost you more than that

14 footer is fine for bays and rivers, keep it simple and get your local marine mechanic to check it out.

if its fibreglass get your local fibreglas repaire joint to check the hull out cause if you have wood rot under the floor or transome your up for BIG $$$$

G'day Rex ,

If you are after fibreglass , check the transom for rot , and the keel for flaws in the glass. 5-8K will not get you a new boat , but with a bit of careful reasearch , a perfectly fine earlier model can be found .

If you are after an aluminium boat , check the welds for stress cracks , particularly around the ribs.

Your best bet would be to have a talk with Craig at Huetts Marine at Cowan.

Thanks for the heads up! I will keep this in mind & certainly follow up with professional advice prior to commiting my money :biggrinthumb:

All ggod advice - thankyou!

I have had a look at Huetts web site & want to go up to have a look & meet him in person. But I can usually only get up that way on Sundays & they only open Monday to Saturday.

Hi Dusky,

As everyone has said here, and I have told you as well Huetts is the place to go. If there is anything these guys at Huetts dont know about boats it hasnt been written yet. They will steer you in the right direction.

Hopefully you will be out on the water soon braining those scaley suckers.

Cheers

Thank you all! I think I will have to take a Monday off & head up to Cowan to have a look at what they can do for me at Huett Marine

I had a runabout a few years back & spent almost 2 weeks rebuilding the trailer (&that was before we could get it into the water!) So I like the idea of a new boat.
