fishmaniac Posted February 16, 2010 Share Posted February 16, 2010 Hey all, With a break in the weather the previous wednesday, thursday and friday it was only fitting to head out and give the boat and tackle a good work out. On the first two days i took my uncle out and on the last day i fished solo. The first day kicked off with a bad start. The plastic nut that holds the stop button on my tiller had rattled off and has been lost to the road. I have since been half way around sydney looking for a replacement to no avail. Yamaha have made this thread to non-standard specifications and conveniently, will not replace the nut. I am told i have to buy a whole new assembly for $150. I am still hitting my head against a brick wall on this so any alternative ways of replacing this nut would be greatly appreciated. Anyways, onto fishing. The engine still runs and so off we went to collect some squid. We had picked up 8 by 7am and so headed out to some inshore reefs in search of kingfish. As soon as we stopped we were on. My uncle and I took turns at landing the fish which were mostly undersized by a cm or two. By 1pm we had landed well over 20 kingies with 3 legal fish amongst them. I also got absolutely smoked by a fish i would say would have been at least 15kg. It pulled 40m as if the reel was in freespool using 50lb braid fishing a locked drag plus additional thumb drag before busting me off. Day 2 we had a similar result on the squid and so headed off in search of kingies. That day was markedly slower than the prvious day andvwe landed 13 fish, but they were of a bigger size. 6 of these fish were legal with the two fish being of a very respectable size, 88cm and 89cm. The bigger fish pulled the scales down to 6kg. These guys pulled hard but made me realise the fish i lost the preceeding day was BIG. On Day 3 the calamari were a little easier to get and I ended up with 10 in good time. The kingies were very slow to start off with and by 10:30 i had landed 3 fish. After moving to a new reef the action really picked up and up until 1:00pm i landed somehwere between 15-20 fish. Of these fish 5 were legal but all were released. Tight lines to all. As you can see the thread where the plastic nut is meant to be is clearly visible. I have been to mr stainless and a manufacturer specialising in plastic nuts and bolts and nothing fits.
