dagz
G'day all first report for you guys from me. Well I have been doing a bit of drummer fishing this Autumn as they are my fave eating fish and have been having consistent success and yesty was no different. Got the gear ready, a Diawa Heart land medium 12 foot with rovex silun 3000 spooled with 20lb braid albright to 20lb flouro trace about 3 or 4 metres long with a small ball sinker on the hook and a size 1 or 2 mustard viking hook and fresh cunji for bait, with a bucket full of bread and oil berley. Not too bad a walk down but the trek through the boulders to the spot can be fun. I normally only fish this area on low tides but the high wasn't that high yesty and with the slight westerly and no swell I thought I would check it out on the high for a change. Well i came up trumps fishing a ledge that I haven't before because on low there isn't enough water in there, I could see the cave and fish hanging around so I thought I could at least get a feed. I ended up with 10 for the sesh and kept 4 good ones for a feed. these 4 fish fed my dad and his partner, a neighbour and his wife (my security system lol) and myself my other half our son and my mum, plenty for every one. Can't wait for the conditions to be good again. I am a bit of a far weather drummer guy and only fish light in very slight conditions with usually not much wash which is not that normal for drummer but have been having good luck on really low ledges in great weather so am going to stick with my formula as it is providing me with a good feed on most trips out. Cheers Dagz

dagz
I'm from newcastle luderick but just on the south side of town. They are one of the best eating fish for me and a good feed of these doesn't last long around here. I always fish for them with fairly light gear spinman as I am a bit of a fair weather fisho and don't go when it is too washy. Only got done by 2 fish on friday that were too big for my 20lb string but next time I am going to up it to 30lb and 40 or 60 leader to see if I can't get a good size PB. There are some big groper in these holes too that I have hooked but had no chance on so it's in my mind to try and get one of them for a photo sesh soon. Cheers D. MartinthePom
Great catch Dagz Drummer are next on my list in the 9 month fishin adventure that I'm enjoying out here. I mainly fish midweek and often on my own so I'm a bit nervous about trying some of the ocean rock marks around Sydney for them like South Head or Clovelly. Anyone fancy showing me the ropes or suggesting a couple of spots inside the Heads where I could try for my first Pig without getting washed in ? Anyone fancy showing me the ropes or suggesting a couple of spots inside the Heads where I could try for my first Pig without getting washed in ? try middle head mate.. its pretty hard to get washed in there .. pulled 2 pigs out on the weekend and plenty of blackfish to keep you entertained.. just dont get too close to oblesk nude beach =/
jenno64
They are great lookin pigs there!! I can't wait to get into them myself. I find that when I use 30lb string I get fewer takes but it's the trade off when you use 20lb and lose the thumpers!!
slinkymalinky
Great result Dagz. Certainly worth sticking with a pattern that works that well... a lot of people (myself included) who have mostly stuck with the washing machine spots for Drummer would love to get consistent catches like that. Cheers, Slinky
