  1. NICE BAG OF REDS STEVE I WAS FISHING DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF SECOND ROPE OF THE FRONT LEDGE BUT WAS PLAGUED WITH TREVALLY FINISHED WITH 14 TREVS 3 BREAM & ONLY 1 REDDIE & 2 SALMON WAS FISHING THE SAME TEQNIQUE AS YOU.BUT I WOULD HAVE TRADED ALL MY FISH FOR YOUR REDDIES.
  2. It would take a brave man to eat anything out of the Parra river i would advise against it.
  3. You definately need to stay on the ball with these blue ring octopus as it,s not uncommon to catch them on your hook.I have seen about 3 caught over the years around Manly Wharf mostly amongst the ribbon weed beds.
  4. Hey Sambo it would not surprise me if you and that cracker of a bream are of the same age .Your not wrong about the thickness of that fish either that would be the fattest i have ever seen.
  5. I agree with luderick Angler on the Daichi being the best they definately increase your catch rate for sure but some of the old timers out there would never trade there old flattened shank snecks for any other hook out there.
  6. Akuna Bay Hairtail .There cant be a Hairtail Season without Hairtail These fish have certainly copped a over years gone by and its a real shame as they are great fish and pretty good on the plate too.
  7. Nice bag there it has been a while since i have hit the blackies up and your post has switched me into blackfish mode as soon as the seas settle i am off to fish "the gutters" past little bluefish Manly for some of these tasty fish i can taste those crumbed fillets already
  8. What a great report good to hear the trevally have started to show in numbers as i love targeting them on plastics great fun & that the bream are thick you cant complain about that.I bet you get the kings next time.
  9. Where i fish (North Head ) i use a westerly wind to my advantage as it gives me the opportunity to fish in relative safety without the heavy white wash which is what bream prefer. In these conditions i can also fish those in close shallow rock shelves that extend outward from the main plattform & areas were water washes up a plattform & funnels back in a specific. This allows me to keep a unwaighted bait in the strike zone with ease.Useing this method you can catch excellent bags of bream in a short period as for offshore fishing i cant comment as i fish landbase only and have caught bream, drummer.silvers, blackfish, and plate snapper in westerlys providing there is some white water & burley is used to switch fish into feeding mode.
  10. Personally i dont eat anything that comes out of the Sydney harbour that includes the lower reaches near the heads.I have done alot of research on the contamination of our harbour from slipways, stormwater drains, factories, old dumps,Navy depots and the picture paints a very disturbing picture.
  11. Definately worth restoring that rod the enjoyement and satisfaction you will get from useing a old classic rod you restored yourself beats purchasing a boring new one of the shelf with hypalon grips anytime.Just make sure you stick a centerpin on it when your finished ,black fishing is not blackfishing unless your useing a (pin) Good luck with your project.
  12. What a TANK Your a true angler for releasing the fish as well.

  18. Well done fellas what a great way to start the day with a good tally of fish and it certainly is awesome when the fish smashes your lure topwater and sends echoes through the creek it certainly sends the heart rate up.

  20. Hey Velveteenrabbit, Those little pickers can be a real pest and if the pickers are finding your bait before the Bream are after 5 mins the chances are the bream are not there so move.If the bream are in your next chosen back wash they will pounce on a bait within seconds so keep moving the bream are always were you find them.I am also sure you were fishing the main platform at old mans try the southern end off the main platform. ( BUT ONLY IN A SWELL OF 1 METER AND UNDER AS THIS SPOT IS VERY EXPOSED & DANGEROUS IN A SOUTH OR SOUTHEAST SWELL ) make sure you have cleats on and a mate with you. Good Luck
  21. Hey Benoz, I too was down old mans sunday morning from 5.30am to about 7.30 i spent the early part of the morning spining with a 30 g halco for total of (1) bonito lucky i had a back up plan targeting bream down there in 1 of the washes and finished up with five bream the best one going 42 cm caught on unwaighted salted bonito strips.
  22. Thats a good result and one of my favourite pursuits well done.I am also interested in the identification of your fish as black bream i have taken black bream around Dobroyd Point and these took on a much darker colour a deep bronze and they were slightly rounder in the head with a pure black tail and very dark pectoral & anal fins.Do you have a shot of your bream in full size you could possibly have a hybrid bream a cross between a yellowfin & black bream. Cheers Spinman
  23. First thing i would be checking is the condition of your guides if one of them is cracked that is your problem.
