bennyk
headed out early morning putting the effort in for some live squid and yakkas. with 15 or so yakkas in the tank and 3 candy size kingy bait squids we set out for some downrigging near north head ... on our way out i hear my buddy getting excited. 'bust up bust up' so i pull the boat up knowing we were the only ones on this patch of fish and started flicking a 5 in sluggo ... had a few kings chase in but none would take then bang behing my mates on . on his 6 pound gear, drags peeling off, in very shallow water he lands the first fish for the day .. a 62 cm king and although undersize was fun to watch what seemd like a 15 minute struggle. after watching the sounder some good arches were constantly showing so we put out a live squid on the downrigger and a small yakka with a breakaway lead attached and began to troll.. 20 mins of movement and bang again my buddys rod went off ... pulls in a 75 cm king also fun to watch the fight but this time on a much heavier outfit.. couldnet believe the yakka got hit over a live sqiud...moved aroung for another hour but things seemed to get really quite even the sounder was lit up like xmas... decided to flick a 7 inch gulp on a half oucne jighead and first cast wammo a nice king for myself measuring up at 70 wind picked up so moved inside the harbour bagging sum bonnies and salmon then called it a day to head home round lunch all in all is always a good day when on the water. found it unusuall that evrything offered today was taken bar the live squid yet not complaing went beautifully on the dinner table that nite

So here I am assuming you got the king recently and I am getting ready to hit your spot tomorrow. Well done on the kings for 3 weeks ago.

finin
Next time you hook up, tie it to the back of the boat. It will keep the school around you for longer.

dobson_c
I've fished with mates before where the yakkas get hit and the squid don't. I've formed the view that squid are better inside the Harbour and not as important once you get outside the Heads. So rather than waste time getting squid when heading out, I'd prefer to quickly load up with yakkas and start trolling.
