Rockett1985
Not long ago I went on a camping trip with the boys up to forster. My main goal for this trip was to catch my first ever Jew fish and boy did I achieve my goal. I woke up early on our first day and hit the beach with a bag of pillies with the hope of getting a nice tailor for some fresh slab baits but I did not get any tailor after 2 hrs just as I was about to pack it in my rod buckles over and I got a solid salmon. Not a tailor but decided to give fresh salmon slabs a go for later that night! That night I hit the beach around 7pm, carried my gear down and noticed 2 gooses set up right where I wanted to be in the deepest part of the gutter with a ultra bright spotlight shining right into the water! I moved 30m or so up from them and set up first half an hour nothing but luckily they decided to up and leave and pack up their bloody spot light thank god. I went straight to their spot and set up with a fresh slab of salmon. Only 20min had passed and my rod absolutely buckled over and was ripped out of the rod holder, I was charging down the beach before rod disappeared into the ocean. Soon as I had picked up the rod I knew what I had on, the big charging runs with the big head shakes in between ( thanks to all the mags I have read helped me distinguish what it was). After a 15min fight I finally saw they big slab of silver washed up on the beach with his glowing eyes staring at me. He went 1.19m but did not have scales so unsure of weight estimated between 17-20kg. Unfortunately I kept him as I was fishing by my self and no one would believe my catch. This was my most satisfying catch ever as I have been trying for a Jew fish for close to 2yrs and Edited January 27, 2014 by Rockett1985

Sorta wish I started off with a smaller Jew because it's going to be hard to top it.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

GreyNurse
I've said for a while now that the best thing to happen to fish and fishing was the digital camera. It mean never having to apologies for killing the fish to prove your story. Having said that, many anglers pre digi camera also kept their catch to be eaten. It used to bug me though, when I'd read about fish being caught in such numbers that they would be left to rot. (The tailor runs of old at Terrigal was a case in point.) But I have to congratulate you on that Jew. A marvelous effort, as Ritchie would say. And what a size for your first! Bet that one has you coming back for more. It would me. I wish the fish could have been set free to fight another day. But this fish fed many people at the camp ground and people back home.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

yting
Great work mate. Only 2 years trying as well. I must be due then. It's funny how these fish make you work hard for it. I wonder if there is anyone out there who has caught a jew in under 2 years of trying?
