Oldgeez
G'day all, I'm in need of a new battery to run my 55lb electric outboard on my 385 explorer. I'm just after some recommendations on brands, types size etc. My older one that just died was a 120ah agm. Cheers, Darren.
Geoff
There are only a few companies in the world that actualy make batteries , many are similar , they just change the name on the case. If you stick with the better known brands you can't go wrong. Check this web site out , there is lots of information which , from a technical aspect , may be of interest. http://www.firststartbatteries.com.au/whyagmbattery.html Geoff
Davemmm
I've just been through this process. Having not bought a new battery for a number of years I was shocked (no electrical pun intended) when I visited a chain battery store and was told their 100ah AGM batteries started at $400. I hit the online sites and found one at $220. My view on brands and names quickly became " I'll take the one at nearly half the price and hope it lasts long enough" I got mine from fleabay. It had no postage and handling costs but given the joint was in the same suburb as me I just went and picked it up. Dave

antonywardle
if its ok to hi-jack this thread slightly, is there a reason for getting a marine battery rather than say a 4WD battery for starting the outboard? Or is it false economy. I heard that the marine ones are going to be able to handle the pounding a bit better. Given that 4WD's go off road then they would get bounced around too, although maybe not so much as a boat, i was thinking that they moght be ok too.
