UnderFisher
Fished north Maroubra rocks from sunrise this morning. The full moon and the overcast conditions meant it was pretty light and strangely dawn never really seemed to come which made it a bit eerie. Fishing was generally slow, kept burleying and had a couple of bumps on my pillies which I presume were tailor. Then nothing. I put my rod in a natural rock holder to have a little break, when suddenly line started peeling off my line. I haven't caught many kingfish before but I was pretty sure this was one by the way it ran. A short fight (30 pound line might be overkill) and I landed a just legal kingfish. A while later, with my rod again in the rod holder, I saw it buckling again! But when I picked it up the line broke before I could have a guess at the size of the fish. After this I kept losing bait, but couldn't feel bites, so called it a day. A very wet and soggy day. A Chinese fella offered me $20 for the kingie, but that's my dinner tonight!PS, loving these forumsSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Edited February 15, 2014 by UnderFisher

UnderFisher
Just ate the kingie with a thai chili salad, man that's a really nice fish. I'm used to eating salmon and tailor! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
lostproperty
I worked out a 70cm king would normally cost around $70 from the markets, but $20 is ridiculous and apart from the technical fact that it'd be illegal to sell it to him anyway. King's taste great, Im hoping to get a decent one next time I head out as I've just bought a blow torch and Im keen to try it out on some thinly sliced segments. Also tastes great marinated in Sweet Chill & Ginger marinade and pan fried
joel.pringle
Bugger the dollar value, a kingfish off the rocks would be too much of a trophy for me to sell. Surely it tastes even better for the effort. Awesome catch. Hrgh
