oldsalty Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I've been wondering this lately, what house hold items can be turned into a lure? I know kitchen tea spoons with a hook drilled into them work, as do ring spanners for jigging kings, also I heard the guy who Sussed out whiting on lures used the clear hexagonal body of a biro pen to imitate a prawn, what other lures are lurking around our houses!??
Ryder Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Well done stevefish. Apart from the wrong straw and garbage scissors, my eyesight and sausage fingers let me down. Haha I've heard of using a spoon as a lure, but not knives. I reckon a butter knife blade could make a good blade lure, likewise the handle as a metal slice.
stevefish Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I looked at a squashed beer lid on the road and saw a vibe, you have to crush the lid onto a split shot then do the hardware. It could be done but I gave up on making blades that way. I caught a rat king on a silicone tube nozzle with a skirt attached, that gave me confidence and it also had a baby black marlin hit it. That one worked better than expected. A successful NZ captains most successful lure was his " Kodak killer" made out a film canister, look it up kids, with skirts attached. You can place a small piece of drinking straw over a hook and troll it for salmon. Beer can teasers. Spoons Surely you can make a knife jig out of a . . .
oldsalty Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Lol, this is GREAT!! What other household items work? Let's put the tackle industry on their knees ( like that's ever going to happen) , !!!!,
SgtBundy Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I recall seeing a thread somewhere of a challenge to turn kids toys into bass lures. Things like matchbox cars, smurfs, macdonalds happy meal toys. Quite a few showing what they caught with them too.
nbdshroom Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 There was this thing a while ago involving making lures from toys that came from Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs. It was called Do You Even Kinder and can be found with a simple Google search.
stevefish Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) Modified with 1gram jig head. I couldn't understand why that dude made something so beautiful then put that ugly ass sinker in front of it. Edited January 29, 2015 by stevefish
dynabolt Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Cool! Guess what I am going to be keeping myself productive with this afternoon!
stevefish Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Cool! Guess what I am going to be keeping myself productive with this afternoon! Can't wait to see yours and others!
dynabolt Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 First and second attempt. Found it hard to get the hook in once complete, so started with the hook in place for the second one. Quite fiddly!
Guest stephanb79 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 HERE IS MINE GUYS AND ONE WITH A JIG HEAD IN IT
stevefish Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 I am a bit less proud of mine now! The hook exposure is better on both of yours. Time for another shot.
gianniz Posted January 30, 2015 Author Posted January 30, 2015 I'm supposed to be the first to make it but I haven't even got the straws yet! lol welldone guys looks promising and let see what we catch with it (looks better then most stuff I see on the market!)
