Belligero Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Hi All, Unfortunately not my catch however a fellow fishing club member caught this 23kg Marlin last Sunday 25/01/2015 by Di Brown 66yr old retired grandmother fishing for Gosford RSL Fishing Club in the Brisbane Water combined fishing clubs comp (which she won)! She was targeting Snapper and got this instead! Anchored at broken bay wide in 80mts of water using a light spin rod & egg beater reel with a snapper rig (patanosta). Bait was old brined full pilchards for bait. The fish grabbed the bait about 1/2 way to the bottom then the fight was on. The fight took 3/4hrs! Cheers
golf_fish Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 I looked at the pic before i read the report, And thought if you'd caught that under the Rip Bridge as well i was gonna hang up my rods and reels!! Awesome catch all the same.....
dynabolt Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 On a light spin rod ?!?!?!?!?!? Now that is totally awesome.....
night_rider Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 That's an awesome story. Fish of a life time indeed on a snapper setup!

Scratchie Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 Good on her! It's great seeing the ladies get involved in local fishing clubs. Although the ladies in my club are kicking my butt! Cheers scratchie!!!
APEX Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 How good is that! Bet she's planning a Marlin charter after all that fun!
bessell1955 Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 You just never know what you might catch when you throw a line in the briny.
gregh1 Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 Great story! I also thought "WOW" he really has caught the fish of a lifetime at the RIP!! With over 100 feet deep of water you never know what you might catch down there! Congrats to Di for the fantastic catch!!!
VBCB Posted February 1, 2015 Posted February 1, 2015 That is amazing stuff! Well done on that one, such a nice story that proves one more time it only happens to those who spend time on / along the water, come on people stop watching your screens and take your rods out
