filthmonger
Caught this beast in Botany yesterday on a zman grub, was about 2-3 kilos. No clue what it is, mouth like a Mangrove Jack but a different shaped tail and eyes.

They are common everywhere up the east coast. They are nicknamed "old mans boot" because that's what they taste like!

0 Blackfish
Hey Filthmonger do you have any bigger size photos of this fish ...... bit hard to ID. It's very dark and the only other critter it could be I would guess is a Black Cod, Epinephelus daemelli.
0 filthmonger
After looking at both fish online, I think its definitely a black cod. He was released. For people wondering the location, its in the big restricted area between the runways. We have our work boat moored in there. The whole area I there is teaming with fish. From stonking bream, to big flatties, bull sharks and pelagics.
